I don't. I remember lots of preseason games. I hope all the Maners there are getting some cover.

I'm sitting in Morrison. This storm just went over us. I've definitely seen worse. I can't remember ever seeing an NFL game stopped for lightning.

Notes
How unusual is a lightning delay in a football game? NFL spokesman Joe Browne said there were two other lightning delays in NFL history. A game at Giants Stadium between the Jets and Colts was delayed 32 minutes on Sept. 8, 1996, while a contest in Kansas City between the Seattle Seahawks and Chiefs was delayed 54 minutes on Oct. 4, 1998.

yeah the Skins preseason game against the Ravens was delayed and eventually cancelled in the third quarter because of lightning. That's the only game in recent memory that I can recall that has been cancelled because of lightning.

I remember the KC game. I think it was a Sunday night game. It was absolutely dumping. Total mud-bowl.

Hell, I thought it was an F-16 doing a flyover for opening day. Even the dogs were not surprised by it. Usually with thunder they at least pace a bit. Must have been quite some lightning strikes in succession.

There was an opening day game between the Ginats and Cardinals at the Meadowlands where they delayed the game because of lightning.
I remember a Receiver, might have been Amani Toomer, totally flinched in agony at a really loud thunderboomer. Was hysterical.
They pulled all the players off the field for that one as well.

I think it was a good call. I am about 5 miles SE of the stadium as a crow flies and it was rattling around pretty good down here. One strike felt like it was right outside the house. Seems like there are 1-2 college games a year halted because of lightening. I think there was one in Louisville last year.

I think this is the first time a regular season game in Denver was delayed due to lightning. Did you see the shot of lightning bolts behind the bronco on top of the stadium during the delay? That was awesome!!

Interesting thread and subject!
I was at the game this evening, and there definitely was lightening. The threat wasn't too bad in the stadium as the seats and such surrounding us weren't metal. However, it isn't safe for them on the field. The stadium did clear out rather quickly but there were many of us die hards that remained. We stood in the rain (I loved it...rather refreshing actually as it was a warm afternoon) and talked about this very subject.
From what I understand, Shanny is very protective of the players when it comes to lightening and will not continue to play in that type of condition for the players safety! Not sure who called the decision, but the announcement came of the stadium that it was a weather center call that there was severe lightening in the area!

BOOM! That lightning was friggin CLOSE! But it gave me a chance to drink more beer with Disco and 12th Man in the South stands as we waited it out in the rain... Oh yeah!

I was at a bar watching all the games at once. I can tell you that even with the delay, the game wouldn't have lasted much longer than the other games had it not gone into overtime. It was actually incredible how the Broncos game caught up with the Bears/Chiefs game in time.
