Commitment to Excellence
<HR style="COLOR: #ececec" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Caution: Just random thoughts thrown together, kind of long.

Have you guys taken any time to think about what Commitment to Excellence really means. Out of a decent size, group of friends, I am the only Raider fan in a crowd of losers(oops mean 49er fans). So I obviously am consistently bashed because of how "bad" the Raiders team is, and how Commitment to Excellence doesn't mean crap anymore. I actually took a little time to think about it today.

Commitment to Excellence isn't just in reference to the way the Raiders play. Commitment to Excellence is what us as fans expect. Regardless of the Raiders win/loss record, Al Davis has built up a huge and loyal fanbase, that are commited to winning. Why do you think we all are consistently hyped up EVERY year. Even last year when the team was in Shambles, we were behind a team that was perhaps one of the worst in history. The players aren't the only ones commited to being excellent, us fans strive and expect excellence from our organization.

I don't really agree with the whole, "booing the players" thing. I don't really know if i disagree with it either. When Josh Mccown is 7 of 7, and misses one pass and gets booed, its because we need him to be excellent. Its not just to bash him. If you guys think we as fans get pissed about the play of the Raiders, just imagine Al Davis. He is us. He helped mold the way we think about football.

I for one would like to thank him, because Commitment to Excellence isn't just the way I want to approach my football team, Commitment to Excellence is the way I want to approach life. Never be satisfied. Strive for the best.

Go Raiders.

When you root for a terrible team you can start to wax philosophical in an attempt to convince yourself it's not as bad as you think. Five more years of mediocrity and then bandwagon fans will be bled out. Ironically some of the best fans I've ever talked to are the ones who support teams that have sucked for awhile. We've already seen this as some of the best posters here are Raider Fans, like The Next Step. Anyway, we'll see.

This guy is trying to get positive reps over at raidernationlosers.com. It reminds me of Sam Malone of Cheers with his guest appearance as a sports anchor on the local Boston news show. "You shouldnt boo. Just root root root for the home team." This is why we think so low of Faider fans as they are completely brain dead. This is how it is EVERY YEAR before the season starts. They dont even have a clue how bad they have been the last 20 years.

If he wants to thank someone for "Commitment to Excellence" he should thank IBM and its chairman Tom Watson who coined the term.

That term became hollow for Al and the Raiders who stole it a long time ago.

LOL...there's some numbskulls over there. Check this out:
Stats can be manipulated. It's all in the way we SEE Culpepper play. The poise, control, long throws, vision, scrambled yardage, and leading long drives for rushing TDs. Culpepper could be 0-0 for 150 yards. But all his drives ended in rushing TDs and a 20 yard FG. And we won 24-7.
OK... :spit:

Tony Robbins must've become a Raider fan. For some reason, I have visions of Bill and Ted in the middle of the black hole as all costumed Raider fans bow as they utter, 'Be EXCELLENT to each other!'...

Math isn't your strong suit is it?

And football is no longer al davis's strong suit.

I will grant you that between 2000-2003 the raiders put together a nice little run, but, when they were at their peak and could have taken a shot at the title, the genius that is al davis got rid of the coach that built that team, sent him packing only to have his head handed to him on a platter in the Superbowl. You have to go back to the year that the raiders got their head handed to them in Buffalo to find them as a factor in the league before that. The glory days of the raiders are behind them and will remain so as long as al davis keeps playing with his toy. I don't doubt that al wants the raiders to win another Superbowl, I think he wants that more than anything, but he is going to have to let coaches coach and put his ego aside. He's not willing to do that. If it isn't al's way it's no way and that's where the raiders are at now, no way. In the mean time the raiders can hang up all the banners with slogans that they want, it doesn't mean a thing when they are getting beat week after week by the rest of the NFL.

As long as al davis is alive he will control the raiders, as long as al davis controls the raiders they will suck. May al live another 50 years.

Translation: We suck! And Al Davis is ok with that so I'm ok with that.....

"He helped mold the way we think about football."
This explains a lot...senility is contagious I guess.

I can kind of feel for the real raider fans. They are reaching, trying to justify this horrible stretch they are facing.

I do love the 0-0 150 yard comment though. Priceless.

Can you imagine?

Below .500 over the last 22 years, and most of your home games are non sellouts.

But the fans still think they have a "Committment to Excellence". How ****ing gay!!

By the way, the Denver Broncos official 1979 team highlight video from NFL Films was called "Commitment to Excellence".
