IMO this is every bit the equal of steroids....It is unethical cheating of the intergrity of the game to get an upperhand. The punishment should be similar IMO. All parties involved should get a 4 game suspension just like they would for substance violation.

haha the second comment:

BB "Does anyone want to talk about the game?"
Reporter "Is it going to be harder to score without knowing San Diego's signals?"

Why would anybody need to video tape the Jests Defense? You can't beat them straight up? Belly deserves a stiff penalty.

Just to even out the "we really suck without cheating" Factor!

I"m sure next year one of the defensive players on each team will have that green dot on their helmet so this won't happen again. I'm sure ole' miserable bill will find a way to bug opponets' helmets though.

The statement was issued 10 minutes before the standard Wednesday media availability at which Belichick, like all NFL coaches, discusses Sunday's game. But few in the media workroom had come to hear about the San Diego Chargers. Belichick begged for a football question.

"Any questions about the Chargers?" he pleaded in his standard other-things-to-do monotone. "Want to talk about the football game? If not, I think that statement pretty much covers it."

It appeared that he might find no takers, before one reporter asked about defending against Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson.

The coach smiled.

"Whatever happens out there Sunday night, out there on the field, that's where everybody will make their statement," he said.

LOL

I hope the Comish takes their 2 first round draft choices. Especially since this isn't the first time they've been accused of doing this type of thing.

And take the win from the jet game and make it a loss. 0-1.

Has any NFL team ever had to forfeit a game after the fact?

It will never happen, but I think it would be the perfect punishment.

I have a hard time believing that the Pats are the only ones doing this and making them forfeit would REALLY deter anyone from eve doing it again.

I still find this to be gamesmanship. People knew it was going on and they could have used to their own advantage. Whatever.

Not that I know of...I was just kind of thinking out loud. Not sure they could or would take a win a way.

I didnt watch BB's press conference, but after his apologies did he promise to seek cheaters rehab ?

Making the Patriots forfeit the win would really screw up the books in Las Vegas. Legal (and illegal) gambling is big business. I don't see a forfeit in the future. Taking away high draft picks and fining them is the way to go...

That was supposed to be an apology? What a joke!

Michael Vick's fumble-tongued "I found Jesus" apology a few days ago was better than this stone-faced stonewalling of everything. Big Bill tried to pass off a few words as an "apology" without ever going into details of what he was apologizing for, or to whom. Plus I'm really curious about how being caught red-handed, with physical evidence of blatant cheating, could possibly be passed off as a matter of "interpretation."

Tell us, Bill, is that "interpretation of the rules" in the same sense that a plane crash is an "undesirable ground-air interface event"? How about just standing up in front of the crowd and actually living out the straight-talking, few-words, no-BS image created by the Patriots public relations office?

Sheesh. This was nothing but lame spin control.

I used to have a grudging respect for the Patriots, borne at least in part out of envy for their accomplishments over the last handful of years. Now I see them as a form of life one step lower than the Chiefs and Raiders. The Raiders and Chiefs are incompetent, yes, which is its own special form of damnation in America, but at least they play the game by the rules.

The only way Bob Kraft could salvage his team's reputation in my eyes is to fire Belichek. Any other punishment handed down by the NFL office is fine as punishment, but does not achieve redemption or rehabilitation. That requires remorse and a change of behavior from the guilty party. Until or unless I see that, I have no use at all for the Patriots.

Regards,
m.

Thats not really a great analogy cause its not the same thing. Switch your signals up on a week to week basis like a baseball team. And get over yourself.

here is a copy of the rules/warning sent. I wonder what part was misinterpreted??

1. Page 105 of the Game Operations manual says: "No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." It later says: "All video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead."

2. And, a memo from Ray Anderson, NFL head of football operations, to head coaches and GMs on Sept. 6, 2006 said: "Video taping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game

Maybe Belicheck and New England misunderstood the "Patriot Act"

That apology was about as sincere as his comments "giving Denver credit" after the playoff game.

So a team has to change things up because another team is breaking the rules? :kiddingme

Kraft: Bill, you said you could pull the wool over their eyes. I was skeptical after last year, but you swore you could pull it off.
Belichik: But I did pull if off, Bob.
Kraft: What? We're in deep doo-doo!
Belichik: So they caught one guy, so what? He's dumb as a rock. He knows nothing about the whole operation. Just play dumb, we'll get a little slap on the hand, just play it cool.
Kraft: You think so? I think we better lay low for a little while. We'll be under some scrutiny. It was a good idea while it lasted, but it's time to shut the operation down.
Belichik: Bob, it's not us that are cheating, OK? We're the ones being shortchanged here.
Kraft: Ok, so what's our position? The other teams have a competitive advantage because they follow the rules?
Belichik: Exactly. It really burns me up inside that they get away with that.
Kraft: So what's my statement? It's unfair to us that we have to play by the rules?
Belichik: Exactly.
Kraft: I don't think I can pull that off.
Belichik: What's the problem? I don't see the problem.
Kraft: That doesn't sound plausible.
Belichik: By the way, I think I can get your ring back from Vladimir Putin.
Kraft: Yeah, but is it the real one this time?

What I think is funny is if it wasn't their team getting caught they'd be screaming just like us.
