Jay is all man. He just needs to realize that he can take a sack once in a while. Especially behind this line. Shovel passes and the like to try and cheat defenses out of sacks is like juggling nitroglycerine. You might get away with it, but it's not worth the risk.
Shanny is killing me with these play calls. Hit these guys with a playaction!

First of all....my throat is hurting, too Broncoblue....I'm hoarse right now.
But now that I've calmed down a little....I have a question.....
Right before the FG.....Javon's catch was for the FIRST DOWN!! Since the offense was already on the field, why didn't we spike the ball....so that we could take our time with the FG on a second down???????
Don't get me wrong....I'm psyched with the win....but rather than rush the FG unit on.....we had a 1st down....we should've spiked it....still would've had 2 or 3 seconds left.
Hey, it worked out....but we ran that FG as if we were on a 4th down.....

It kicks ass he's already an effective QB. Looking forward to seeing him get better and better. That's gotta scare other teams.
470 yds of offense. Its been awhile since we've seen that in Denver!
I don't know why they didn't spike the ball either. I thought they were taking their sweet ass time to the line to spike the ball but then they were lining up the FG team.

That was amazing. I retract prior cursings at Elam.
I also retract criticism of Elam...with the proviso that we need more TD's.
Jay leads the league in pass yardage...and he probably made more dumb mistakes than anyone else too. Young made a great (non-rookie) play slapping the ball out! Just WIN baby, to steal a phrase....
Jays 1st 4th quarter comeback to WIN the game ...he had several to tie last year, then D gave up the games.
Walker-Cutler made the play of the game, to keep the drive alive.
Ian Gold should be history after this game. He sucked BIG.
Henry ran well but there was never any consistency to the offense.
Overall a good START! :~ohyah!: !Booya!
I hope I survive this year ...I'm 58 and eat too much fatty food...Jay is gonna give my heart a workout , I'm afraid.

Amazing finish. Of course if Elam had made one of the two he missed previously
it might not have come down to that. But in the end he redeemed himself
and showed why he's still on the team.

Maybe they figured, Go run on the field and kick the ball without thinking, rather than having him line up and think about his misses. Thats what I thought anyways.

i can't recall the Broncos ever getting 470 yards and scoring a measley 15 points ...
the special teams' play HAS to improve - today was more of the same from our special teams. hopefully, their play improves ... it sure was strange not seeing DW back on punt returns - he is certainly missed.
perhaps by running on the field, the Broncos prevented the bills from getting their FG defense on the field and perhaps catch them with 12 men on the field. it kept them from getting organized.

Maybe they were thinking Buffalo would call a TO to get their own people out there.
Cito Pelon
09-09-2007, 05:19 PM
The staff made the right decision to get the FG team out there. They didn't know if the first down was made or not. If the clock was stopped for a first down, they would have been fine. There was no guarantee the O could have spiked the ball in time if in fact the first down was not made. They made a snap decision.
The whole team though better not figure that was their Superbowl. You enjoy this one on the first part of the flight home, the last part of the flight home you critically review your failures and plan on correcting them fast. All those yards and few points, you have some work to do. Hixon is barely catching the ball on returns. Huge gaps on opposing returns. Henry took himself out of the game on the game winning drive, I'll save judgement on that.

I don't know why they didn't spike the ball either. I thought they were taking their sweet ass time to the line to spike the ball but then they were lining up the FG team.
Personally i liked the call. It seemed like it took even Buf by surprise and did not give them time to come with a wrinkle to block the kick (like they did on Elam's second miss where they lined up a player wide of everyone.)
Maybe they figured, Go run on the field and kick the ball without thinking, rather than having him line up and think about his misses. Thats what I thought anyways.
I think the decision was made before they ran the first down play to kick right away so as to not wonder in it was a first down or not and run out of time. Eliminate the extra decision
crawdad
09-09-2007, 05:29 PM
Incredfible that we even had the chance to kick again. I think our special teams really needs alot of work. Our defenders need to learn how to tackle low. Trying to take Marshawn Lynch by the shoulder pads is ridiculous.
cutback
09-09-2007, 05:54 PM
the play before the fg was 3rd and 10, so they decided before the play to run the fg team on the field, since they very well could have ended up short on the 3rd down play. the stats show walker with an 11 yd catch, thus getting the 1st down by a yard or so.
great win.

There are a lot of issues on this team. However, we should enjoy this win for what it is. A hard opening day road win. I'll take it and hope we can get better this week and improve our trouble areas.
The offense played well except for Cutler's Plummer like mistakes (which should go away as the season progresses) and the inability for us to score in the redzone, or even continue to move the ball once we get inside the opponents 40 yard line.
Defense looked pretty damn good for the most part. Buffalo had something like 9 possesions, 6 punts, a pick, a missed FG, and a TD. That's a pretty good team defensive effort.
Special teams were terrible. Kick/punt coverage was awful. I wasn't impressed with Hixon returning. Elam was shaky. This unit scares me with it's ability to lose games for us.
We also ran 72 plays to Buffalo's 49. Outside of the scoreboard, we dominated this game. Just need to turn that domination into points.
