this is a pretty silly article. I'm sure even a cursory analysis of, say, #3 picks would reveal the same sort of 'likelihood of success'. If you want a better predictor of russell's chances you should just look at how many games he started(29) in college and %pct.(62%), as these have proven to be the best indications of success.

palmer: 45 starts; mcnabb: 49 starts; rivers: 51 starts

harrington: 28 starts; akili smith: 19 starts; druckenmiller: 24 starts

Roeth: 65%; peyton: 60%; Brees: 61%

Boller: 49%; Leaf: 54%; mcNown: 51%

that in mind, it seems as though Russell could go either way, but will likely end up as a middling talent.

Dumb piece. Watch, now Russell will probably sign within 24 hours.

"Russell never liked the idea drafted by lowly raiders"

"...If he gets a taste of the good life without having to earn it, he could become the next Ryan Leaf.

Remember, Russell came out after his junior season. “Still needs work,” was the operative scouting report."

I sum up the rest "he's lazy and stupid"...BWAAAAhahahaaaa

He never should have been the #1 pick to begin with

Either way...the Raiders used a #1 OVERALL pick on NOTHING!!! Not Calvin Johnson to help out their recieving corps. No Joe Thomas for that sad o-line. Nothing....Russell won't get signed and will get picked up next year in late first, IF HE'S LUCKY and give up millions. If he was smart, he'd take what he could get now and sit behind Daunta and McCown and still make a good chunk of change.

Id take J-C 10 of 10 time over Russell. I was skeptical at first till I went back and watched more of Jays games at Vandy. This isnt a homeristic view (I took J-Cut with arizona in last years mock). Oh and F*** Oakland and the Queefs (SD you need allot more to become respected so you are just a normally choking stranger).

He should get the best deal he can. It will be his only big payday.

I hope Russell re-enter the Draft in 2008 only to be picked, again, by the Raiders.

Actually if you watched his career, the last thing you would say about it is he is lazy and stupid. I'm not saying he is going to be a great pro, but I watched probably 20 of the games he started at LSU and I don't think in 40+ years of watching college ball I have ever seen a QB progress as much from his Freshman to his Junior year. He may turn out to be a bust, but it won't be because he was lazy and stupid over the last three year. Oakland was a terrible place for him to end up because he won't get the chance to get the work he needs. If he would have gone someplace like, perhaps Seattle, where he had a couple of years to develop, I am pretty confident he would end up being a quality pro QB.

if the raiders drafted calvin johnson and signed culpepper, and kept the same D and with rhodes, they could have became a playoff contender within 3 years. now they are stuck down with teh chefs again

You could also note his quarterback rating against non-rated opponents was stellar, but rather pedestrian against BCS competition. More discouraging was his decision to show up at The Combine out of shape. That's not a 22 year old I would want to hand $30 million guaranteed.

I think the best thing the Raiders could do is not sign him, even if it means letting him sit all year. I really don't know why that would be necessary, though. I'm sure somebody would offer up a package of players and 2008 picks to get something done.

Wow... You could be right, but my super-secret ultra-connected sources tell me that he was signed tonight and the announcement will come tomorrow. I believe me more than I believe you.

It would be funny if he slid to the third round.
