PFT ranks the Broncos number 6 (http://www.profootballtalk.com/No6Broncos.htm)
Though most folks presume that the AFC West will see the Chargers in first place and the Broncos in second, we see it the other way around -- and we've never been accused of being Broncos fans.

On offense, the Broncos could be dynamic to the point of dominant. We like quarterback Jay Cutler, and we believe he'll be much better in his second NFL season. Tailback Travis Henry, who was a great performer in Tennessee last year, will help to unlock the passing game by forcing a safety toward the line of scrimmage. Receiver Javon Walker will build on his solid debut in Denver, and the arrival of Daniel Graham at tight end will be a solid complement to Stephen Alexander and second-year pro Tony Scheffler.

The defense is better than advertised, but still needs help on the line. Simeon Rice could make a difference, if/when he signs with the team. Still, any defense that has cornerback Champ Bailey and safety John Lynch is good enough to win consistently, and the Broncos will indeed win -- more than consistently.

If the Broncos can get things clicking on defense, we think that they could topple the likes of the Colts and the Pats in the postseason, especially if the Broncos can secure home-field advantage.

Key departures: RB Tatum Bell, DE/LB Patrick Chukwurah, QB Jake Plummer, DT Michael Myers.

Key arrivals: CB Dre' Bly, RB Travis Henry, TE Daniel Graham, DT Sam Adams, WR Brandon Stokley.

Draft pick most likely to make an impact: DE Jarvis Moss.

Coach's current job security: Lifetime.

I think 6 is rather high, at least until we prove we can clean up a number of things. I think 10-12 would probably be more accurate, at least for now.

I don't get how the Broncos are completely underrated one season and then over-the-top overrated the next. Maybe before the preseason and the footage of our 1st string DLine getting ownded consistently I could have understood this ranking, but what has our team shown to warrant this kind of optimism?

All you need to do to understand how smart the pft writers are is read how they ranked the chargers. Somewhere around 10 or 11. While I always love good Broncos pub, lets be real. We are still trailing them in terms of being a good team. No way we are better right now. We might "get better", but we aren't ahead of them right now.

I'll have a pretty good feel after we play Buffalo.

I believe he is ranking the teams based how he expects them to do over the year and not how they compare right now. He expects Broncos to finish ahead of chargers and I actually think this will happen as there are lot of trends that point to this.

considering how much PFT despises the Broncos, either they are teasing us with #6 or are swallowing their pride ... hmmm, between the two of those, I'd say they are teasing us.

Even then I'm not sure we'll know for sure how good the team is. Even though I haven't liked what I've seen so far, I don't think I'll be any more pessimistic if the Broncos lay an egg opening day since that has been the trend the last several years. Of course, in all honesty, I couldn't get much more pessimistic about the "defense" than I am right now. I just hope for some SERIOUS improvement. ugh!~

The good news is that we get essentially two practice games to start off with.

how is Al Wilson not a key departure?

how is Al Wilson not a key departure?

his leadership will be missed - but by the end of last season his health made him more of a liability on defense ... it will take DJ time to make the adjustment, but at least he is healthy ... we were definitely spoiled by Al Wilson's play when he was in his prime.

I think marshall is one of, if not the biggest key to the season. at least on offense

A road opener is considered a 'practice' game to you?
