Randy Moss - WR Sep. 1 - 7:49 pm et

According to a rumor posted at the Boston Herald, the Patriots are considering cutting Randy Moss.

The rumor was originally posted at Profootballtalk.com, and the Herald has been unable to confirm it with league executives. The theory suggests the Patriots are concerned Moss won't be happy with his role. A league source did tell the Herald there was a surprise on the team's cut list, but wouldn't say who.

What's funny is that after he gets cut, the media will suck off Belichek and Kraft about what a fantastic idea it was to cut Moss.

Exactly what role is he looking for? that of a great wide receiver up and coming or an idiot that choose to go to the raiders and ruin his window of opportunity he had?

Yeah I posted that rumor in the cuts thread but probably not everyone checks in there so no biggie. I pretty much don't believe anything from profootballtalk unti another place confirms it.

Back to the Raiders to play with Dante. I may be right after all.

(When the Faid signed him, I perdicted that the Faid would next aquire dante to play with moss. This would be about the most round about way) it could happen.......

PFT is reporting they cut three of their 2007 draft picks. I know for sure, one of them, Corey Hilliard, an OT from Oklahoma State, we should definitely take a look at. His type of athleticism could excel here in denver. I watched him last season and I liked him much better than Ryan Harris.

Agreed. And this is a team that completely whiffed on a 2nd rounder in Chad Jackson last year. Can you imagine the fallout around here if the Broncos had drafted Jackson instead of trading for Walker?

If he's been dependent on HGH for several years then he is basically worthless now. I sort of figured this a while ago. He was really starting to fall off in San Diego and then -boom- he goes to New England in 03 and magically doesn't suck anymore. Hmm? And even on drugs he can't stay healthy.

Teams have to submit their finalized roster to nfl office by 6 p.m. ET. There is no obligation on them to anounce their cuts. They can do it whenever they want.

True. But doesn't stop the talk.

We are hearing more -- not less -- of those rumors that the Patriots might pull the plug prematurely on the Randy Moss experiment.

The talk is intensifying in the media, and among league insiders. One league source tells us that Moss is "bitching quietly" about his perceived role in the offense. A media source says that "where there's smoke there's fire" on this story.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald mentions the rumors, and reports that Tim DiPiero, who represents Moss, had not heard of any potential issues with the former Pro Bowler whose arrival in New England has helped to push expectations higher than ever.

Though Moss was not released on Saturday, the team could still dump him prior to next weekend and avoid responsibility for his $2.5 million salary. As we mentioned on Saturday night, the Pats currently have six receivers on the roster -- Moss, Donte' Stallworth, Wes Welker, Jabar Gaffney, Reche Caldwell, and Kelley Washington. (Troy Brown and Chad Jackson are on the PUP list.)

Notably absent are any youngsters who would try to earn reps with the offense in the future through heavy involvement in special teams. As the roster is currently configured, guys like Gaffney and Caldwell (both starters in 2006) and Washington would be used for punt/kick coverage/return teams.

Could it be that the Pats will try to shop Moss to someone like the Packers or the Vikings before cutting him? Though Minnesota coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress surely has no interest in acquiring another potential T.O., owner Zygi Wilf might conclude that a return by Randy could be the way to sell out all of the seats for 2007.

Did you read the comment to the article by "Larry"?

He can't watch the Sox play in peace until he knows whether Moss is cut. Hilarious!
