Lane Kiffin is closer to picking his starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders' season opener against Detroit. He just may wait until gametime Sept. 9 to announce the decision.

Kiffin said he could tell Josh McCown and Daunte Culpepper who won the job as early as Sunday, but wants to keep the decision under wraps to make the Lions prepare for two different quarterbacks.

This reminds me of that idiotic anti-persperant commercial Dan Reeves did way back. You know the one where he's talking about the things you "dont" do a a head coach in the NFL and the ends with "you never let them see you sweat". One of his "don'ts" was "you never let them know who your starting Quarterback is". First, what Madison Avenue douche wrote that and second, did they know that his QB was John Elway? Bah.... anyhow, I've been wanting to get that off of my chest for about 17 years.

I feel better

The typical raiderfan has been drivin crazy LMAO!

Pure Speculation - Daunte told to throw interception

I'm not one to usually bust out w/ crazy conspiracy theories but bear with me w/ this one though. I was reading today's insidebayarea article about Kiffin knowing who the starting quarterback is as stated in Kiffin's radio call friday. I put myself in Kiffin's shoes, knowing he's trying to force the Lions to gameplan for 2 quarterbacks, then he'd have have to keep the Lions guessing. IMO, Kiffin has already picked Culpepper...he's played w/ the most poise and confidense. Mcown has been solid but he hasn't scored many points, while Culpepper has put up numbers. In Kiffin's book, it's all about results. I'm sure the Lions had already begun assuming it was Culpepper's job...But now, can he be the starter after throwing a very bad interception against 2nd and 3rd stringers??? coupled w/ the fact that Mcown played a solid game as a starter should keep the Lions guessing. Let's remember that Kiffin also took Culpepper out after that interception.

Like I said I'm not one to make up crazy consipiracy theories, but this manuever makes the most sense to me. He has to sell his bluff w/ more than just words. Any thoughts?

With some luck Kiffin could be offered the Head-Coach job for Notre Dame before the first game.

I hear that they are going to run an "it could be you contest"
Costs 50 bucks and you could win the job. (Must bring your own health insurance)

A line of short mexicans with half a**ed mustaches would be forming a line around the stadium as we speak if that were the case.

Kiffin don't want to win guess..

Despite being evasive on the subject publicly, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has decided on his starting quarterback for Oakland's season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Josh McCown is expected to get the nod.
QB comparison
Josh McCown is expected to get the starting nod for Sunday's opener vs. Detroit. A look at the preseason numbers of the two quarterbacks who were competing for the job:

Josh McCown
Att/Comp: 24/47
Yards: 352
TD/INT: 0/0
Rating: 75.8

Daunte Culpepper
Att/Comp: 26/47
Yards: 308
TD/INT: 4/1
Rating: 95.0

Asked by reporters Wednesday when he would know who his starter would be, Kiffin replied: "I do know ... I wouldn't anticipate an announcement."

"They (the quarterbacks) know," Kiffin continued, but "nothing's permanent."

Culpepper was sharp in the Raiders' final exhibition game on Thursday at Seattle, completing 11-of-19 passes for 108 yards and leading the offense to its only touchdown in a 19-14 loss. But Culpepper also threw an interception.

McCown started the game and went 5-for-12 for 75 yards in four series.

Culpepper is not as familiar with the offense as McCown after signing with the team on July 31 when it became apparent that top draft pick JaMarcus Russell would not be in camp anytime soon because of a contract dispute that has lasted an NFL-record number of days.

Russell remains unsigned and the Raiders could enter the season without their quarterback of the future on the roster.

Culpepper has shown that his surgically repaired right knee is healthy this preseason. He's thrown four touchdown passes with only one interception as he tries to put last year's disappointing season in Miami behind him.

After throwing 39 touchdown passes in 2004 in Minnesota, Culpepper battled injuries the past two years and had just eight touchdown passes and 18 turnovers. That led to his release by Miami in July and his late signing with the Raiders.

McCown was acquired in a draft-day trade with the Lions, hoping for a chance to prove he can be an NFL starter. McCown made 22 starts with Arizona before backing up Jon Kitna in Detroit last season.

Andrew Walter, who started eight games last season, is currently the third quarterback on the roster. Kiffin said last week that the team could choose to go with only two, leaving a spot for Russell when he eventually signs

They should sign and play Russell right out of the package. Why? Because it's sneaky! They make them game plan for Culpepper and McKown and then play a third QB! Ha! Tricksy!8')

Yeah, that "we won't reveal our starting quarterback" thing worked sooooo well for Notre Dame on Saturday.

After seeing the OL;

Dante - "Cade. I think it is the manly thing to do to let you start this game. You were here first"

McCown - " No Dante, you can go first. You are the guest here."

Dante - " No, I insist. You go first"

MCown - "Do you think we could talk Walter into playing the first game?"

It has to be Culpepper.

They like a strong armed QB to able to throw down the field.

Greasebag Al is keeping it secret because he's trying to decide between George Blanda and Daryl "Mad Bomber" Lamonica. Kiffin will find out who the starter is when everyone else does...right after the coin flip.

So if you are Detroit, does this mean that your game plan now focuses on stacking up in the box since Oakland will all their confidence of a coin flip to decide the starting QB and more than likely will favor running the ball?

This secret is right out of the mind of Maxwell Smart.
