So little Susie and little Johnny don't want to play tag and the school bans it?

------------------------------------------------------------------
Colo. school bans tag on its playground (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070830/ap_on_fe_st/odd_tag_banned_3;_ylt=AloStPDNfZgFzNjvLvrAwPcE1vAI )

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - An elementary school has banned tag on its playground after some children complained they were harassed or chased against their will.

"It causes a lot of conflict on the playground," said Cindy Fesgen, assistant principal of the Discovery Canyon Campus school.

Running games are still allowed as long as students don't chase each other, she said.

Fesgen said two parents complained to her about the ban but most parents and children didn't object.

In 2005, two elementary schools in the nearby Falcon School District did away with tag and similar games in favor of alternatives with less physical contact. School officials said the move encouraged more students to play games and helped reduce playground squabbles.

LOL too much . last night a 16 year old and another 12 year old jumped my son in the driveway , I watched to see how my son would handle it before I stepped in ....... My son did the right thing , he picked up the biggest stick he could find and drew blood on the 2 kids that jumped him .......Then these Kids parents came complaining to me , I told them , flat out , they was raising bullies , and if they dont like their kids getting their ass kicked ,they should teach them to stop looking for trouble ....More parents need to teach their kids to stand up and fight back

In some cases Wags, it is not always possible. I've had the unfortunate privledge of being in the wrong place/time twice where escape was not an option.

LOL you twit , you have to stand your ground , you cant spend your life running .... scared to go anywhere ........

The first option when presented with a threat is to escape. Only if escape is impossible is it reasonable to use force for self-defense.

I think this is a bit overboard.

Sure any kid has the right not to play and shouldnt be forced to by their peers...

and the kids trying to force it on others should be dealt with.

But to put a 'ban' on such a game seems like laziness on the schools behalf to deal with the bad apples.

Much easier to allow them to spoil the bunch I guess?

Congrats to your boy! And to you for telling those kid's parents to go **** themselves. :strong:

Just out of curiousity, how old is your boy?

I got a concussion and 2 weeks suspension for getting jumped by 3 other kids in school once....

This is a major problem in schools nowadays. My high school had a policy that if you were attacked, if you made any defensive moves at all you were considered as guilty as those attacking you and subject to being sent to an alternative school. My junior year, some poor kid got jumped by 4 guys and laid there getting pummeled for 5 minutes before the SRO and school admins showed up to break it up. A few days later when I saw the kid, I asked him why he didn't fight back and he said he was scared of getting kicked out of school and losing his college scholarship.

I also just read No Easy Answers by Brooks Brown. He was a student at Columbine High and friend of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. According to Brown, one of the things that set Eric Harris on the path to Columbine was getting suspended from school for 3 days after a couple jocks split his lip and repeatedly kicked him in the balls in the locker room back in middle school.

I'm never going to defend the actions of those in columbine - but i can say - i understand how/why they got so frustrated.

Same here, there is absolutely no justification for their actions, but school system (especially Columbine) deserves it's fair share of the blame for allowing those two kids to be bullied day in and day out for all 4 years.

It's wierd ya know - the cliques. I never really understood it - but it seems to get more and more compartmentalized with each generation IMO - as it - the caste system seems to become much more 'rigid'.

But is does help explain why somebody would do something that horrible.
Even a trapped rat will bite you if you poke it with a stick enough times.
And maybe if bullying in schools were taken more seriously then we wouldn't
have other kids snap and do something like this in the future.
