He defined mediocrity.
ok run blocker in a zone blocking system, weak both phsyically and technically in pass blocking, no red zone power to speak of.
He works out ok in a zone blocking system, but his inability to hold up against a pass rush last year was about as bad as George Foster's.

Probably been said but did anyone notice that both Oaklands starting RT and RG are former Broncos. I thought Green was out of the league till I saw the last preseason game haha.
I'm gonna call it now, any lineman we cut or try to put on the PS will get swooped up by the Faid, which sucks monkey balls.

Again, for what it's worth, the organization wanted to keep Carlisle, and weighed his salary demands carefully against other team needs.
In the end, the obvious conclusion was that he just wasn't worth the money he wanted AND there were some promising rookies/2nd year players to take his place.
...but they didn't just cut him loose without considerable thought. Players experienced in this complex blocking scheme are always a valuable commodity to the Broncos.

i don't disagree wabbit, but with the young talent on this team, carlise didn't really have a chance imo.

Gotta give it to Carlisle. He was a 5th round pick in 2000, earned his way on special teams and became a pretty solid guard. He even jilted the hated Ravens to return to Denver.
I think when it was all said and done, Carlisle knew this was gonna be his last real shot for a pay day. Unfortunately he and the Broncos were headed different directions, but I harbor absolutely no ill will towards him.

As fans you never know the real reason for anything. It could be they think he is average, not that big, going to be over 30 and at the end of the contract. You either make a new committment to him or release him. Broncos probably felt it was in the best long term interests of the team to let him walk, sign Holland as a stop gap, let Kyper and Meyers have their shot since they are younger.

I think we got and upgrade in talent coupled with the fact that he was here for along time and never outright proved he was the guy. Now, maybe that's a proclimation of our o-line, but he still a guy with potential.

Last yr he pass protection wasn't all that great but I do remember him playing pretty well the year before that.

I wonder how much money Carlisle wanted. The Broncos were so optimistic about Kuper and other young lineman that they gave free agent Montrae Holland a hefty contract. And Holland was just named the starter.

Like usual everyone is wrong. Denver never cut him loose. He signed a one year contract with the Broncos.
His contract was up, he was a free agent. Denver always said he could come back if he couldn't get the deal he was looking for in FA.
He is a good solid player. He'll do the raiders proud.

The fact that he was absolutely horrible might have contributed...

I'll tell you something about Cooper Carlise, Raider Bill: In March, 2006 - maybe three weeks before the draft - Cooper was in a hotel room near Baltimore late at night. The next day he was scheduled to sign a deal his agent got him with the Ravens.
But very late that night (late on the east coast anyway), the telephone rang in his room. It was Mike Shanahan himself, persuading Cooper Carlisle that we needed him. Carlisle gave in and flew back to Denver the next day. True story. I dunno if his phone rang in his Oakland hotel room a couple months back, but if it did, he must not have answered...

I thought he was rather lazy, he struggled at first and was an average run blocker and got beat alot in pass situations. But from what I read on the mane it always seemed like Shanny had something different in mind for him and it never materialized.

Add to that, the fact the he was experienced in the zone-blocking scheme, which Oakland was going to, and a few other suitors out there, such as the Texans, who had recently switched to that scheme, and the demand was greater than the supply, so we were outbid. We had current players under contract that had a year or more in the scheme which were much cheaper.

Add to that that Dennison thought he was a lazy POS

Well Bill, it's like this. The Broncos looked at it like a win-win situation.
By dumping Carlisle and allowing him to go to the Raiders, they improved the offensive lines on both teams. ;)
