Lol
lol, might as well have some fun with it. We have not looked all that good. Its the first year of a defense with Bates and right now with a still green QB, injury problems mounting, an offensive line which isn't adept at pass blocking consistently and a defense that is missing a few pieces, we are on the outside looking in for a playoff spot. Too many strong teams in the AFC to think otherwise. Doesn't mean we can't grow into a playoff team, we are just struggling in simple areas of football like blocking, covering and tackling.

I want one of the positions where you don't have to tackle. You know: DT, LB or Nickel/Dime Back.

No way. We've far too many like you already on the roster.

I heard we were posing as the chief's D for the preseason to give our offense an idea of what they'll be up against this year.

Ian Gold missed something like five tackles. DJ was out of position early but got better. Our D-line looks meh except for Dumervil on occasion. They got better as the game went on, but against the Browns we should have looked like the Ravens.

My heart is telling me they're keeping it vanilla for the preseason and ready to unleash hell in the regular season. My head says there will probably need to be a teary eyed halftime speech from Bates like Coyer had pleading for the D to play for him.

Last year Broncs had 12/13 new guys on offense. this year it willbe the same or more on defense. Bly had a tough first quarter. DJ looked better. Gotta stop the underneath routes.
Ernster is beating out Sourbraun.

Ernster is like Nate Jackson: A preseason tease that does nothing when the regular season starts.

Remember kickers almost never have a good first year. Ernster's troubles were sevrely overblown here on the mane. Crosby is gettin beat out in Green Bay. KC's savior from UCLA looks less than average. Harris has had a very good career after sucking here his firs year, etc.

Why was Lynch, a safety, making tackles in front of linebackers? What is that D formation called? Is that a 4-1-3 D? That's very innovative.

Because Lynch is a pro-bowler and our linebackers are scrubs.

I haven't seen this game yet, but game 3 in pre-season is where you show something. Sounds to me like we didn't show much.

Sounds like the Dallas game. You couldn't even spot DJ Williams on the field. I had to pause Tivo a few times just to see if he was out there. Conversely, Lynch had to make about every friggin' tackle.

Is it me, or did our front four play in a tighter formation this game?

Last year this very board was running around claiming our pro bowl Safety was too old now he's our single bright spot on defense?
I hope Lynch get another pro bowl nomination this year. Good call!

I am littled tempted to pull out the old Bates was just hired thread, so some folks can eat crow. That being said, I won't see the game but were the CB playing off again and was it basically zone coverage all night? If it is just poor tackling that can be fixed.

Bailey looked like he was just standing around kicking the tall blades of grass.
I really haven't figured out WTF is going on, although I have a felling that I can't continue to just say "it's just pre-season". Especially after the 3rd game, which generally give me a better "feel" for were we are as a team.

We're not getting pressure. We made a Browns QB looking like Manning. We applied pressure a few times, but the rest of the time, he had all day. It doesn't matter who is covering, if you give any NFL QB enough time. You can't cover someone forever. Our passrush needs serious improvement, or this is going to be a very long year.

I'll volunteer to eat a bit of crow. I was one who loved the Bates move but, realized it would take time for this unit to gel.Who knows how long it will take this unit to gel 4 weeks 8 weeks 12 weeks or next year. Face it we need a Bailey type talent or two on front 7 regardless.

Wasn't D.J. responsible for about nine tackles?

Preseason isn't a full read on a team but you can sure spot trends.
I smell 8-8, 9-7 if we're real lucky. I'm not saying that in a panic, I'm just saying that's what the trends are showing right now in my worthless opinion.
However, if the D starts to click they could start the season slow and finish strong. You know, after all the fast starts and slow finishes the last 7 or 8 years, the opposite would be a welcome change,
Because Lynch is a pro-bowler and our linebackers are scrubs.
Dam.... Kahn is in mid season form today

They aren't throwing Bailey's way. Bly is going to have to pick it up so they have no where to throw. We've got enough problems with the run defense.

I would be looking for a backup vetrean offensive tackle once the finnal cuts start happening. Also look for a possibly punt returner wide receiver or runningback to develope on the practice squad. I also look to pickup a young linebaker to stick on practice squad maybe a gut like Brandon Stiller if he does not make the Chargers team.Trotter would also be a good signing to backup Williams. The Broncos could play Trotter on short yardage situations then move Williams to Gold spot.

You mean starting tackle?
Seems all we have are backups, at least on the right side . . .

Wonder if the feelings mutual ? Last I heard the Broncos weren't showing interest.

Towards the end of the Eagles game one of the announcers said that his agent initiated contact with the Donks. No indication whether the Donks had any interest.
