Cobbs signed by Broncos

The Broncos re-signed running back Cedric Cobbs today and the player once cut by the team was back on the practice field today.

Cobbs was cut by Denver in May. The team brought him back because of a thin running back group heading into Saturday night's home game against Cleveland.

The Broncos will be without two of its top running backs — Travis Henry (knee injury) and Mike Bell (hip) — Saturday and likely the Aug. 30 game against Arizona in the preseason finale. Both Henry and Bell are expected to be ready for the regular-season opener Sept. 9 at Buffalo.

Cobbs will have his work cut out for him to make the 53-man roster.

Hall's been injured. We had Smith and Fleming running at HB yesterday, we needed another body.

Hope Cobbs finds some way to catch on, either here or with someone else. He's worked real hard to keep it going despite some really bad injuries.

Cobbs was our best back last preseason, it's too bad he never brought his "balls" to the big game. I thought Cedric had great potential if he could just stay healthy.

I think his chances are slim, but at least he has a second chance. He runs every bit as well as Cecil when he's "in there."

Watching Mike Bell get blasted as he made his cut downhill vs. the Cboys was crazy - we looked like th little kids on the playground in that game - I hope Cobbs comes in and lights the fire for the others. It's not that tough of a position and we sure need someone other than MBell and THenry to show up. It would be nice to have both Travis Henry and a power back type like Marion Barber at the goal line.

Cobbs was on his way to more playing time until he fumbled that kickoff and sprained his ankle recovering it. Everyone gave him a bunch of shiat for fumbling the kick, but I thought he really gave it up to make sure he made the recovery.

He's strong and fast, probably better than Young or Hall, and if Bell or Sapp gets hurt, he could make the team. He's probably got more upside than either Bell or Sapp.

That's probably true, but no team will give him a better chance if he really is ready to play. If he is ready to put his a$$ on the line, he could actually earn a spot.
