This is a stunning and eloquent editorial by several Army sergeants in Iraq.
When an army's NCOs are so at odds with the rest of the chain of command that they print their grievances in the NYT, that can't mean we are moving in the right direction.
They paint the "surge" as a huge sham and a total failure, and their revelations about what it is like on the ground in Iraq are amazing. They say that the Iraqi Army and police ARE the insurgents, and are planting IEDs.
They don't advocate withdrawal, but a radical change in mission where we stop dictating to the Iraqis and let them hash out their bullsh*t while we only assist on the margins.
