Honestly...I thought he looked horrible. Slow as molasses out there. It could be because he followed Henry. It could be because I was in a critical mood after watching our _efense stink it up. I thought Bell looked half-assed decent out there. Not great, not very good, but decent. Bell showed potential and seemed to be warming up into a groove. I would put Bell over Sapp.

What do you think?

I like Sapp but I think Bell is a better fit for what we need behind Henry

he's a little shiftier and I think it is a good change of pace behind our bowling ball #1

I thought the difference between the two was mostly style. Bell seemed to be really good at picking his way through the trash for solid gains, while Sapp wasn't one for dodging and cutting, preferring to bulldoze. As a runner I think you'll get more consistant gains with Bell, but Sapp is far better if you need to move the pile. If Bell worls on his leg drive in short yardage, he would make sapp expendable.

I think Bell looked better against SF.

When I was watching Bell run, I kept thinking he looked very much like TD, especially wearing the # 30. Anyone else get that feeling?

I thought Henry looked more like TD, but with (*gasp*) more speed.

I like Bell, but he's no TD yet. Henry looks really smooth, its going to be a great year if he stays healthy.

In all honesty, I would be more excited about Young or Hall at the #3 than I would Cecil right now. As I stated in previous threads, I think the reason he got some big runs last year is because they weren't expecting the fullback to get the ball on those plays. Cecil was very hesitant to hit the line, then wasted energy pushing through tacklers. If he just hit the line harder, he would look much better, then punish the linebacker / safety instead of the D-linemen. If he wants the job, he will need to start throwing himself at it with a little less caution.

I want all three in the backfield at the same time in goal line situations. Run the wishbone with 2 TEs (Graham on one side and throw Sam Adams in there as a TE on the other) and no WRs and dare people to stop them.

That would have to be the definition of the anti-Kubiak/Nintendo offense.

Sapp is below average on off tackle runs, and average between the tackles. I just hope Andre Hall's hamstring gets better quickley so we can see him in action.

I like it. The Snow Plow Offense.

I thought Bell looked better, but it was hard to tell decisively in that kind of setting with tons of people shuttling in and out on both sides of the ball.

Sapp just seems a little more sluggish, though.

Travis Henry, OTOH, looks like the real deal and then some. If he stays healthy (and out of trouble), I think he's going to get an awful lot of playing time, and this RBBC stuff will be a thing of the past.

Ya me too and i said that in chat though I don't think that was a popular comment.

I think Henry looked great, but he didn't remind me of TD. Maybe it was the size difference, or some style differences. I'd say that Henry breaks tackles a bit better than TD, but his vision and cutting burst is nowhere near TD's.

Sapp looked horrible, almost like he didn't know what to do. I'd like to see more of Selvin Young.

Where's the "Denver can't cut Sapp because he's Mock's boy" option?;D

Yes, Bell reminds me of TD and it wasn't the #30 on his back.

Not bad for a 3rd string running back.

Sapp in a dman fullback for crying out loud, there is no way he should be considered for #2TB. This guy should ad another 15 lbs and start opening holes, instead of being too slow to run through them.

bear in mind, most of thoose who have been hyping Sapp beyond boundries of common sense tend to also be the ones who were badmouthing mike at every possible chance last year, and telling us over and over that Tatum was a superstart - just give him one more chance.

I'm not sold on Bell. But that's nothing compared to my skepticism of Mr. Sapp.

Seems to me that Sapp lacks any kind of burst.

Bell and Sapp looked pretty even to me.

There were only a couple of things I took from game 1 that were crystal clear, and one of them was that Mike Bell is the #2 back on the team. I think the Sapp bandwagoneers were reading way too much into the fact that he had success with extremely limited carries, but over the course of a game and season it's another ball game completey.

Sapp was the benefactor of the element of surprise last year, and that doesn't happen if you're a regular in the Denver HB spot.

Bell was superior in every aspect of running the ball.

I remember us running this in KC a couple of years back. The only time we ran it, Portis went 60 or so yards for six.

I think several people on the board have completely lost perspective. "Bell reminds me of TD" Hilarious! I thought both looked like backup running backs. Bell did look a little bit quicker, but then he had some running room. Sapp ran with more power, but he didn't even get a chance to get started before first contact on several plays. I didn't concentrate on either players blocking because I was trying to focus on the linemen. Overall for the first live action, they did pretty well, IMO. I will say that Denver would be in deep dodo if our featured backs were Sapp and Bell.

I mentioned this in another thread. Sapp looks to be a bruiser knock em on their ass RB. He would break initial contact but once he reached the second level he lacked that gear to pull away.

Bell looked pretty good, he made some nice cuts and found the hole a lot better. Henry though he had those tackle breaking runs that brought back that Denver RB feeling again. I bet we see a lot of running plays where he breaks a tackle and bursts for 9-10 yards a lot this year.

Bell will be the #2 guy. He has just enough toughness and size to be effective at breaking tackles but what he may lack in over all top speed and burst speed he more then makes up with his sharp hard cuts and vision. He really seems to fit this system well and usually does a great job at finding the right gap to get through. And once he gets through, sure, he's not gonna take it the distance, but his cuts are good enough to make a few guys miss and he can move the chains. That's about all you can ask out of your #2 guy. He can stand to work on his blocking and catching, but that's what makes him a #2 guy right now. There have been PLENTY of big time backs in this league that didn't have raw speed. Can you pick up first downs and good chunks, can you find the endzone, can you block and can you catch. If you can do those, you don't need to run like a gazelle.

I've been a fan of Bell's ever since his days at U. of Arizona, right here in Tucson.

But Bell is no TD. Never will be, far as I can see.
