A review of the Broncos' preseason opener

THE GAZETTE
1. Will the starters make the most of their time?
The offense had an efficient, eight-play drive with a few nice runs by Travis Henry and a couple of big plays by quarterback Jay Cutler, and Henry capped the drive with a touchdown. The defense struggled, especially against the run, but it is adjusting to a new scheme.
2. Is the offensive line ready?
Cutler didn’t get rushed on either of his two throws, which is fortunate. Because backup Patrick Ramsey rarely had time to throw and took some hits. Getting left tackle Matt Lepsis and left guard Ben Hamilton back from injury will help the line.
3. Who will back up Travis Henry?
The competition is still close. Cecil Sapp is the No. 2 running back, but he split time with Mike Bell. Bell had 51 yards and Sapp had 50 yards.
4. Which receivers will stand out?
With many receivers out because of injuries, none of the backups had a big game. Quincy Morgan — two catches for 21 yards — and David Terrell — two for 14 — were the only Broncos with more than one catch.
5. Will the special teams start well?
Morgan had a 58-yard kickoff return and Todd Sauerbrun boomed a few punts, but the 49ers averaged nearly 30 yards per kickoff return and Jason Elam missed a field goal attempt wide right.
