Training Camp Day 13: Holdman Out Three Months

Clear skies greeted the Broncos as they took the field for their final training-camp practice, but a cloudy, unknown outlook stands in front of linebacker Warrick Holdman after he and the Broncos learned that he will be out for at least three months following the spinal-cord concussion he suffered nine days ago.

“Right now it’s a little hard to say what we are going to do,” Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. “We’re talking to his agent, we’re talking to his doctors.”

Holdman will be re-evaluated after three months, but the news was nonetheless frustrating for Holdman, considering that he hoped to have returned to the field at some point this week.

The Broncos, meanwhile, list Louis Green at the first-team strongside linebacker slot at which Holdman was platooning before his injury. With Green battling a knee injury in the early part of the week, however, much of the first-team playing time went to Nate Webster and D.D. Lewis, with the latter seeing more first-team repetitions later in the week.

Up front, Jarvis Moss practiced for a third consecutive day, and Shanahan expects him to be ready for Monday night’s preseason game at San Francisco.

“Right now he’s scheduled to play,” Shanahan said. “He practiced, and looked pretty good. Unless there’s a setback, he should be able to go.”

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who came off the physically-unable-to-perform list on Friday, went through a full practice Saturday morning, but will not play Monday. Shanahan expects the second-year wide receiver to make his 2007 preseason debut against Dallas a week from tonight.

“I’m sure if it was a game situation, he would probably be able to play, but obviously we won’t put him in that situation without a couple of more days of practice,” Shanahan said. “With no setback, he probably should get some playing time against Dallas.”

However, Marshall had another strong morning Saturday, making several catches during team and seven-on-seven work.

“Brandon’s looked very good,” Shanahan said. “He’s gotten in pretty good football shape. He’s worked with (strength and conditioning coach) Rich Tuten, and one of the reasons why we had him work as hard as he did coming off of a thigh bruise is because we wanted him in football shape.”

Too bad for Holdman, the other stuff is good news. The thing about them talking to Holdman's agent sounds to me like probably a settlement and he'll come back next year at most.

Sounds like Brandon is working his way out of Shanahan's Doghouse ;D

Holdman we never got to know you. Hopefully between Green, Lewis, Webster we can get some decent play as the SAM spot. Here's to hoping Holdman can make it back to his career.

That sucks for Warrick. I think that might allow Vaughn to stick if they keep 7 and probably locks in Hollowell in the sixth spot.

Mallard is listed on the 2nd team on the initial depth chart. Is he in the mix? Haven't heard much about him.

Wonder if Shanny would bring in any other OLB's for a look see?

Well, he'll make a trip to IR and possibly resign him and see what happens next season.

That's gotta suck for him. I hope he can get through this and come back strong.
