PRINCETON, Ind. -- Another mine accident has been reported, this time in Indiana.
Police said three people were killed in the accident, which happened around 11 a.m. near Princeton, Ind..
Three workers were going down an airshaft when the accident happened, according to Princeton Police Deputy Mike Hurt. Authorities said the three workers were killed, and the Gibson County coroner was called to the scene.
The men, who were not miners but employees of a construction company working on an airshaft in the mine, were apparently in a basket that was supposed to travel about 600 vertical feet when they were killed. Police could not confirm if the men fell.
Hurt said an officer at the scene told him, "Three people are deceased, and they're trying to find a way to get the bodies out."
The shaft was being built by Blue Ridge Construction, MSNBC reported. The mine is owned Gibson County Coal Co. Emergency crews are at the scene.
There have been no reports of an explosion or cave-in. Police said no one else was trapped or injured.
Princeton is about 30 miles north of Evansville, Ind.
