BRONCOS NOTES: New defensive tackle is learning as he goes

ENGLEWOOD -- For the price the Denver Broncos paid for defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy, he doesn’t need to produce much to justify the trade.
Denver gave a sixth–round draft pick to the St. Louis Rams this offseason for Kennedy, a former first-round pick. So far, Kennedy looks like a good value for the Broncos.
With Sam Adams often resting to stay healthy, Kennedy has played many snaps with the starters in training camp. The Broncos want big tackles in assistant head coach/defense Jim Bates’ scheme, and Kennedy seems to fit well.
“These guys know how to use you,” the 320-pounder said. “Coach Bates has had bigger D-linemen.”
Kennedy, who was acquired June 8, said he is learning the defensive scheme and his techniques. He said he is hard on himself and needs to improve.
“I see the mistakes on film,” Kennedy said. “I know there’s so much more I can do.”
Lynch OK
Safety John Lynch said he bruised his sternum when he hit running back Travis Henry on Tuesday and missed the final few plays of practice. Lynch was back Wednesday and participated in the entire practice.
“I’m fine,” Lynch said.
Cutler’s wrist
Quarterback Jay Cutler has battled tendinitis in his right throwing wrist, but Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said he wasn’t concerned. Cutler hasn’t missed any practice.
“He’s had it for a couple weeks,” Shanahan said.
Plummer bonus fight
According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Broncos and Buccaneers filed a joint grievance to recoup about $7 million of retired quarterback Jake Plummer’s signing bonus. The Broncos can’t get back any of the money because they traded Plummer’s rights to Tampa Bay in March. He didn’t report to training camp.
