A little early, but I thought I'd do this for SoCal in return for all of the great reports he's been putting out the past few days. I know how much he loves the draft, so this one is for you!

I know some others, Spring, Big Guy and Med might appreciate this as well.

I'm a draft nut, so what else can I do.

Enjoy! :strong:

Hey man, you've been doing the hard work, so I thought I'd pump out a couple thousand word analysis. ;)

You know you love it! :strong:

Thanks Requiem, I too love the draft, and this gives me names of players to follow throughout the college season and analyze as well.

Good job...

Hey no problem. Just keep lookin' in the Draft Forum here and be sure to utilize all the tools necessary. I can't keep my tabs on all the players like Scott Wright and other guys do, but I try to make a list of about 25-30 guys to watch closely each year (usually first-day guys) at least a few times to get a better idea and feel for them.

Where I do have some friends who are able to get tape and watch it extensively, my GPA went down the ****ter last fall semester because I was able to get some DVD's from a good friend of mine who will be going to Mobile and Indy this year and did watch quite a few games from the junior seasons of this past years prospects. Needless to say, I went from a 3.25 as a freshman to a 2.8 as a sophomore. Disgraceful. Ha!

I should get one of those recorder things, but does that work on basic cable?

It'd be a lot easier.

Good takes, great writing..... BUT I do not want Denver to use its #1 on a WR. Our past history have been poor at best in the WR/1st round venue. If a stud LB is available, that would be my preference. I would not complain if we also used our #1 on either of the lines.

Sweet! I can't wait for the "Cutler Developing Chemistry with Doucet" training camp reports one year from now.

It'll be interesting to see how badly the Bison beat the **** out of the Yotes when their transfer to DI happens.

SDSU didn't even deserve to be on the field at the Fargodome last year.

We can have a friendly rivalry though.

No way in hell was I going to be a Yote. :D

Our hole is at SAM, and I think it'd be an absolute waste to use another first-rounder on a guy who is going to rot at SAM like DJ did for two years. I like a lot of the linebackers, especially Rivers from USC - but I couldn't justify us picking him. Would you want him at SAM? Waste of talent. It's a great class though, lucky for us.

I understand your concern, the bust factor for wide receivers is huge, but I really like Doucet.

You can change the picks around though.

Take a guy like Okam in round one at defensive tackle, and perhaps a guy like DJ Hall in round two to be our speed receiver. All sorts of options. So many scenarios. I just talked too much about Doucet and Jackson to revamp the whole draft. :D

Excellent! And you know I like WR/LB early on.

For those who think it's early, as soon as college season starts is a great time to see the future draft picks. I really appreciate Req, SoCal and others who identify some of the key players to follow during the year.

Props!

No problem.

I'm going to try and see if I can get some tape of the Bison, in particular anything special the coaches have on Joe Mays so I can send it to some of you all just so you can see how special he was. I know the kid who gets to tape the games, so maybe I can work out a deal.

I can't remember the exact story, but the guy did have a chance to go and play at Michigan, but he knew that he wouldn't see the field for a long time, so he opted to come and play at NDSU which as a real nice up and coming program.

He's just so quick. I know that Chris Gocong out of Cal Poly got a lot of exposure and was drafted early on by the Eagles, and I really think if Mays got more exposure, he'd be a mid-round guy. Hopefully him playing a few bigger schools this year will get him some of the props he deserves, because he's really a class guy and a great football player.

Standing next to him when I came up for work this past summer was crazy (players were practicing at team camp, etc.) in the lunch lines. I'm as tall as him, but he is so big. He is completely maxed out. 5'11 - 245 is absolutely sick. He definitely eats his Wheaties.

Hey buddy not interested in OT? How many more years should we wait to groom a young guy for Lepsis? Or would you prefer a Tony Jones FA signing for next LT?

BTW I agree on LB/WR early on I'm just asking about OT because I felt like it :)

We did spend an early 3rd on Harris this year. Let's give him a chance to see if he develops. (Although we won't have than answer for maybe two years.)

I'd love an all-pro LT, but where we typically pick there isn't much of a sure thing. Man, did the Chargers ever win out with their draft last year at OT??

Silly me I forgot about Harris thank you young man I'm getting senile :). I guess I will remove my OT from my day 1 list for 08.

I like DJ Hall too. I think he would be a nice pick-up in the second-round, depending on what juniors declare.

Oh, and for the people who want an OT, I'd of liked to added one, and if we had another choice in rounds 1-4, there is some great depth there, but we do have Harris. If something happened to Lepsis or Pears, I'd move it up. Very strong draft, but I think the Broncos really like Harris.

Dan Conner is the real deal. I saw him in the state playoffs when he played for Strath haven and he was dominant. hasn't missed a beat at PSU. I'm no PSU fan, even though I'm from PA...just being real. The man may be a tad light, but if he can add 10-15 lbs, he should be an late 1st or early 2nd rounder.

I love the Pinnix pick, I wanted us to pick up Gary Russell this year. I think that every RB who comes out of Minnesota should be drafted or signed by us. Pinnix appears to have the receiving skills of Marion Barber III although his running skills are not as polished as Laurence Maroney. He could definitely be a steal for us on day two.

With how deep this draft is at OT, I'd love to draft Ryan Clady out of Boise State with the #2, he looks to be a quick, yet big player who would be more NFL ready than Harris and would be cheaper than in usual years. In any case, we need another young OT because Meadows is on borrowed time leaving us with Lepsis, Pears, and Harris.

I like the Doucet pick, although I've never seen him return a punt at LSU although it's very possible this year due to Craig Davis' departure. I know he is the same as Marshall and Walker but I would still love to have Limas Sweed. About 50% of the 50 mock drafts I have seen thus far have us taking him which I am not opposed to at all, he is exactly like Roy Williams, maybe a little longer and faster.

It might also be good to draft a DT in the first if Bates still wants more after this year. The DT class is extremely deep by most accounts and is full of big stuffers like Bates loves. I'd love to get Frank Okam, DeMario Pressley, or Red Bryant. All are 6'5-6 with full body frames. DT is just such a risk, it's tough to commit a first rounder to it.

I really like the Malik Jackson pick. I agree with you that the second round is the way to go for a SAM back unless there is a true SAM who falls to us in the first, otherwise they are just not worth it. It is important to have the coverage skills in the AFCW and he appears to have that. We definitely need to draft a SAM next year.

It is a shame that safety is so weak this year because we seem to be getting older and older at the position each year with no new infusions of talent. We will be forced to use a late round flyer in hopes of developing some talent.

My draft needs are(in no particular order): OT, DT, LB, WR, S. OT and DT are very strong and would undoubtedly have some talents who drop to us in the 1st or 2nd. LB and WR are marginal at this point but could fulfill our needs on the first day. Safety is incredibly bad and we are going to be taking a late round flyer.

Truthfully, I think it's too soon to identify needs. I want to see how the D-line responds to the new Bates system. As much fun as we've had this offseason pumping up Hixon, I want to see if he can actually perform on the football field.

Great response.

I really like Bryant, but he has problems staying healthy. He had off-season surgery this summer too so I wonder if he'll be able to be at 100% when the season starts.

Yeah, unless some juniors declare at WR it's marginal as of right now, but there is talent there. The DL and OT are incredibly strong and I'd love to see us pick up another player.

I'm glad we have Thomas, but I really do wish we had a third-rounder in this years draft. Even without some juniors, I still think this class will be better than the 2007 by a mile, and that you'll be getting great value through the first-day and well into the second.

Req,

Did you include the possible 4th we could get from Tampa Bay? Or the 7th rounder?

Also, isn't Alley Broussard a senior at LSU this year? Wouldn't mind the team taking a look at him in the later rounds. Especially if Tampa Bay can somehow get Plummer to report thus giving us an extra 4th round choice.

1 major flaw in the whole article - you need a recruit from 'The U', UofF, or FSU in there. Denver loves those Florida 'Schools'. SoCal wouldn't have minded either.

Yeah, Alley quit. It's sad, same injury that LeCharles Bentley is fighting through right now, the patellar tendon and achilles are two of the worst injuries I know of. Plus Alley had an infection that set him back more, mixed in with the fact that he was having to prove himself to a new coaching staff, it was a tough card to be dealt but he will be finishing his degree and graduate.

I agree, Req, we need another middle round DT, Thomas is no sure bet with questions about off field behavior and on field development, GW is a baffling talent who needs to have a consistent year, and Sam Adams is old. Another middle rounder would add much needed competition and depth.

I agree with Moore as the season progresses, but right now I think he has some proving to do.

No, USD and NDSU do not play, and I don't think they will for another year or two. A lot of SDSU fans have got cocky versus us, but we proved last year that we under Coach Bohl are in a whole different league compared to the other Dakota programs.

I threw in the extra seventh because unless Jake reports, we don't get a fourth. Heck, even if he came back now (money issues, Denver/Bay going after him for bonus) I don't know if it'd go up to a fourth.

Maybe we can get something for Lang, if he is really on the block.
