They were saying on NFL network last night that Strahan would be open to a trade and that his retirement is more due to Giants camp and I assume contending for a ring.
Our defensive line would look damn good with him on the strong side.
What kind of compensation do you think the Giants want?

I would be willing to trade Al and Thump for him. In seriousness he would be a nice addition but I dont see how we can afford him and dont want to give to much for him after we just 2 DE in the draft.

Screw the giants. Let them cut him and let him find his own home. If he really wants to go to a contender, he will look here. Strahan is one of the ONLY LDE's that is a complete player. In this system, he could challenge his own Sack record and immediately make this defense world class by himself. It all depends on what he really wants, a ring or money.

they did say that money was not a concern and that he by retiring is set to lose 4 million in pay and a percentage of his signing bonus, they made is sound as if money had nothing to do with it and that he wasnt "holding out" but more just does not want to play for the Giants anymore (i assume coughlin has a little to do with that)

Hell yes. He's had a couple down years, but Strahan is still one of the best DE's in the league when he's got his game on. He'd be a great mentor for Moss, Crowder, and Thomas as well. If there was a reasonable way to get this deal done, I'd say do it.

Strahan still Receives Double teams on both Running and passing plays and can still get to tthe QB. He had a 90% stop rate on runs and only 1.2 yards per rushing play at him. His sack numbers were down last year, but he still had plaenty of Pressure on the QB. He is the perfect fit for this new Scheme, even with slightly diminished nembers. Plus, he can get spelled more here and remain fresh as the scheme rotates much more than the Giants do on the DL. Also, Giants new scheme is a Jimmy Johnson PHI heavy blitz type. It is a lot harder on the LDE as they take up blockers more than penetrate and beat their guy one on one.

For whatever reason, I think the guy just wants out of NY. He's pulling a bull**** move with them by annoucning right before TC that he's considering retirement, and then there was an article today that said Strahan is hurt that the giants are looking to move on without him and talking about replacements and fines. Well no ****. You do something like this without warning, and well, you catch people off-guard and can get some knee jerk reactions.

Listening to Sirius NFL last night and they said it IS about the money. If the GMen were to throw some cash at Strahan he would stop the retirement talk, but the Giants are not making any offers. This could just be speculation from the radio guys so who knows. I for one, would love to have him on our side, even if it is only for one year. Throw them an offer of a 4th or 5th rounder and see if they bite.
Basically what's going on is that the previous management/ownership regime promised to re-up his contract this off-season. A new crew is in now and they don't want to, believing that he only has a year or two left, so Strahan feels lied to (as I guess a decent number of the current guys were promoted from within) and pissed off.
I'm sure it doesn't help that they just aren't that good of a team. The Giants are supposedly pursuing Simeon Rice pretty heavily and he just got a clear bill of health from Dr. James Andrews. Doesn't look good for Strahan staying in NY.
Of course if he does leave I think he'll take the most money he can get regardless of where it is. He and his wife had a real messy divorce and it cost him tons of money. He's looking to get paid before his career comes to a close and he's left with very little of the millions he made as a superstar DE.

Here in NY on the radio Mara said the Giants will not renegotiate with him. I don't like the guy but if you could bring him in without costing an arm and a leg I wouldn't complain. The guy is a great player but he is not a leader(we already have a bunch of leaders so it wouldn't matter) and is always flappin his gums.
My odds of Strahan going to Denver: Slim and None

That may be his best shot at playing in a superbowl, but surely not his best chance at winning one. There's no team right now in the NFC who can play with the big boys.

That's because you look at it as a fan and you don't understand the business side of it. It's not like he's some 3rd year guy that hasn't proven himself yet and doesn't want to go through camp. He's been an elite DE for a long time, even if he's lost a step, he's still a huge impact DE and no need for him to be in camp if he's trying to get out of town or get more money. It's no different then if you feel you deserve a raise at work and they don't give one to you, even though you deserve it, you feel slighted and may not want to stay after work and put in those extra hours. You may just do your 8 and go home.
I'd throw a mid round pick at NY if I knew Michael wanted to play for a few million for another 2 years. If it's just one year, it's not worth it. He's got to be willing to play for 2 or 3.
Let's see - Strahan, Adams, Warren, Ekuban as your starters (not bad at all). Then let the rookies grow and earn time through the rotation.
Sometimes, these kinds of situations are just what the doctor ordered. Strahan has plenty left. We all thought Pryce was old and done for and look what kind of season he had last year.
If he's cheap enough per season and it won't cost too high of a pick, I would snag him in a heart beat and so would 99% of the GM's out there.

Strahan will get hurt and end up playing in about 10 games and notch around 6 sacks.

I understand football is a business. I have no problems with NFL players getting what they can since they put their long-term livelihood in jeopardy.
My beef is Strahan has dragged his ordeal into training camp. He should have taken care of the business side during the offseason. I think it's selfish of him to make this a distraction while his teammates are in two-a-days.

No. For me, I don't think I'd trade anything for him, unless they'd take something like a 5th rounder or a scrub. Otherwise, I'd sit back and see if they end up cutting him and going from there. Pretty unlikely however.
I don't think Denver is going to be able to challenge for a Super Bowl this year anyway. So giving up too much for probably a one year Strahan deal isn't in our best interest. Depending on how our rooks develop this year, if we were in this same situation next off-season, I'd be willing to give up more for a Strahan type of player since I think we can contend for real in 2008.

I'd love to see Strahan playing for the Broncos but isn't this a long shot pipe dream? Eddie Mac may be able to shed some light on this but supposedly at the bottom of all this retirement crap with Strahan, it's really about the money. He's due 4 million this year and his cap number is greater than 6 million because of his signing bonus. There is no way in hell the Broncos can fit this kind of money under this years cap.
I personally am looking forward to seeing what Bates can do with this squad. Before he started coaching in Miami, Jason Taylor never had more than 3 sacks in a season. Jim Bates was credited for turning around that defense and helping Jason Taylor become the sack machine he is today. Before Bates went to Green Bay, Kampman was somewhat of an unknown. He is now a pro bowler and the Green Bay defense has enjoyed 2 years of great success in the scheme that Jim Bates installed.

Why is the team going to be a real contender in 08 but a pretenter in 07? You have no idea how the team will look in 2 years so why do you automatically call them a contender? There could be injuries, trades, you name it. And what is SOOOO wrong with this team now that they don't have a real shot to win it all?

I don't think Cutler is ready to lead us to that level yet. One full season under his belt as starter will go a long way towards that goal. Our DL is still nothing but question marks and one more year there will give us a better picture of what we have with our rooks. We are terribly weak at WR currenlty. Our LB core has been reshuffled. OL is going through a major transition on the right side and Lepsis is still questionable to me.
All of the main pieces are there now. Given a season to mature together, we will be a much better team next season.
I mean yeah, I hope I'm wrong and we win it all this year. But realisticaly, our window opens up next year.

This is kinda soft, but it is noteworthy. From the New York Daily News...
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/giants/2007/08/12/2007-08-12_the_wisdom_of_lt.html
Direction of the team: This does not look like a playoff year as rookie GM Jerry Reese did little to upgrade the roster in free agency. I've maintained that Reese and Tom Coughlin have conflicting agendas. Reese has a bit of a grace period to mold the roster. Coughlin must win now to keep his job. If the Giants are willing to deal Strahan, we hear the Broncos, Bucs and Titans would be interested. The perfect fit if Strahan asks to be traded to a contender? New England. Strahan, at the very least, could be a pass rush specialist for Bill Belichick with a great shot to get to the Super Bowl.

It would be a great move to bring him in even if he lost 2 or 3 steps(which he hasnt) What our rookies would gain from playing a season or two with him would be priceless. Alot of rookies who develop into good players usually have good mentors especially on the D-line. Do you think Foxworth & (Rip)Dwill would have developed as much as they have and did if they didnt play with Champ? Even champ learned from Daryl Green.
I would trade Engelburger, a 6th rounder, & Ernster for him lol.
