Team Kicks Off Training Camp With Eager Fans

by Colin Campbell,

The Broncos official season is weeks away, but on the first day of training camp, the welcome back party has already begun.

"We're just doing a little training camp and a little tailgating," said a fan sitting outside the Broncos training facility at Dove Valley. "We got some chicken, shrimp and hot dogs."

On board the "Orange Force One", a renovated New Jersey transit bus, zealous fans watched the Broncos on flat screen TV's and a sound system.

In the back of the bus, the restroom is adorned with a Raiders-decorated urinal with a Kansas City toilet.

Inside the training camp, fans wished the best for players who lost two of their teammates, Darrent Williams and Damien Nash, earlier this year.

"It's been tough for them in the off-season and I think it would be awesome if we could go all the way this year," said Broncos fan Mary Newton.

Other fans like four-year-old Tristan Alward, who came to see Jay Cutler, hope the Broncos rally all the way to AFC Championship.

"He's good," said Tristan, who held up his hand to tell onlookers that he was four.

Those who came to see Rod Smith were a little disappointed. The wide receiver is sidelined with an ankle injury.

"I was hoping to see him but it's still great to see these other guys out here," said Trevor Kiernan.

Expectations for the hometown team run high, but no matter how the Broncos perform, as the days wind down to the Super Bowl, dedicated fans are going along for the ride.
