Quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall draft pick, and the Oakland Raiders failed to agree on a contract before the start of training camp yesterday.
What a joke the Raiders are they can't even get the guy signed by camp. Don't most teams already have the deal done before the 1st round pick is even made? Raiders had more time then any other team and still couldn't get it done. You can negotiate before draft when you have number 1 overall.

I'm sure of it. If something stupid has been said then it's been said by an Fader fan.

Didn't some Raider fan say that their draft picks don't hold out?
What was said was that, historically, the Raiders don't have a lot of guys hold out. Prior to this, the last time a first round pick held out, the year was 1994.

Are we going to start on their LOSER fans now ??? Yep, No better time than the present.

I always thought they should have sent them to the NFC WEST instead of the Hags. But then we would'nt be able to beat the into the cellar each season.
We OWE THEM NOTHING LESS!

I figured it was time for us Bronco diehards to come together. We have done a lot of arguing, fighting etc this offseason. I'm as guilty of it as any other poster on here. Now that the season is here I was hoping we could put politics and race behind us by uniting in our hatred of the Faders. LETS GO BRONCOS!!!!!!
I watched like 2 minutes of the game. USA was behind right before half and I was thinking if WE lose america's game to japan, thier fans should wait for team and offer them Samuri swords to kill themselfs with after shaming themselfs and their families as well as american football :)

I guess ignorance is bliss
The Oakland Raiders have signed rookie TE Zach Miller. to a contract. The Arizona State product signed his contract at the team’s Napa Valley Training Complex. He was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
As a junior in 2006, Miller had 50 receptions for 484 yards and four TDs. He was voted a consensus All-American and earned Walter Camp All-America honors in 2006. In three year at ASU, he caught 144 passes for 1,512 yards and 14 TDs.
“I feel good; I’m just glad to have it done and be able to get out to practice. I’m here now and I can start practicing, showing the coaches what I have."
Miller will step onto the Raider's Napa practice field today to begin training for the 2007 season. Be sure to watch Miller and the rest of the Raider players as they kick off their pre-season schedule at home against the Arizona Cardinals, Saturday, August 11th, at McAfee Coliseum.

At the time the article i read said he hadn't signed. But if what you say is true you should be about the most blissfull person that ever lived. By the way the thread is more about why Raiders didn't work on Jamarcus and have it done. I mean like I said they didn't have to wait you can negotiate with your pick before draft even starts when you hold number one pick. He misses too much of camp and it really sets him back.

Seriously can this organization do anything right?
They continue to use Gallery as a Tackle when there's no chance of him succeeding there. They don't bring in JMR on time when it's essential for a QB to get as much camp time as possible.
For Raider Fan, Al Davis needs to keel over. That's the only way they can return to respectability. They are far, far, far from it right now.

Heck... he might not even play at all this season. Certainly not for several games. Kid has a lot to learn - thats why we signed McCown as a stopgap QB while JamRuss learns the ropes. Don't worry, Folks.... you'll see JamRuss eventually.

Exactly, that's one of the big reasons why the Texans took Mario Williams last year, is b/c they could get him under contract quick and cheaper and Reggie.

I'm sure we will see Jamarcus after a small hold out. I really don't see it going more then a week. I just don't get though you made him number 1 pick, give him like a 15% raise over last years pick, tack on 5% more because he's a qb and Mario Williams was a DE and get it done. I mean why would Raiders be afraid to pay him big big money. It's not like it matters the Cutler was affordable and will be twice as good as Russell.

Its all so secret that we don't know if the snag is a fear of paying big money. Could be hammering out complex details of exactly how the big money will be paid. Number of years, incentive, bonus, etc.. Calvin Johnson asking for $30 mil gauranteed probably didn't help much. I ain't too worried. Yet.

The average annual increase per slot is, according to everything I've read, approximately 8%, not 20%.

Raiders talks with Russell hit stalemate
JaMarcus Russell still isn’t signed and it doesn’t look like a deal is going to be reached any time soon. That probably won’t effect the Raiders’ offense much, but it will be a blow to the rookie quarterback, who continues to sit at his mother’s house waiting for a contract to get done.
“We're now getting to the point where we've had enough practices where it is going to be a disadvantage to him once he does get here because he is going to be behind,” Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said.
Asked what the sticking point was in the contract talks, Kiffin said simply, “Money.”
Ironically, while the Raiders were practicing Sunday, director of football development Mark Jackson was on the sidelines watching the workouts rather than working on the JaMarcus Russell deal. Jackson isn’t the point man in the negotiations but it was still odd to see.
Nevertheless, the two sides appeared to be making progress until this weekend.
“(It's) actually going kind of slow right now with him," Kiffin said Sunday. "The last 24 hours, not much progress has been made.”
Kiffin and Russell played phone-tag Sunday, leaving messages with one another but not talking personally.
"He's very frustrated. He wishes he was here,” Kiffin said. “He's put it into the hands of the people representing him and he's completely out of it from his point of view. He's really decided to stay out of it and put it in their hands."
Meanwhile, Kiffin said Russell is losing a lot of ground by not being in camp while Josh McCown and Andrew Walter split reps with the starting offense.
“Obviously we're going to spend tireless hours with him and special time getting him caught up, but it's just not that easy of just hours. It's reps," Kiffin said. "We can't make those up, all the stuff that Josh and Andrew are getting right now. They're in there in live blitz drills and they're throwing with people in their face. We can't make that up. That's going to be a disadvantage to him. We just hope there's not many more reps that he does miss."

Well if he was scheduled to ride the pine this year it probably wouldn't matter anyway but when their QB's are Josh McCown and Andrew Walter do they have the luxury of letting him sit?

I seem to recall hearing that big Al never liked drafting quarterbacks in the first round because cause he felt the money risk was too high. Now he takes one with the very first pick and he may already be starting to regret it.

I think so. Out of the OTAs, word was that McKown was clearly the more polished guy and that Russell would have to really blow everyone away in training camp to get the nod.

I haven't seen anybody say Dwayne Bowe will be the savior of our team. He should be the #2 WR fyi. Like to see where this was stated.
It's not Bowe's fault. His agent, Ethan Locke, has a bad history of not getting deals done for rookies. This happened to KC back when we drafted OT John Tait.
Locke, per 610 AM, has stated that he is working on Brady Quinns contract first...

Interesting story, but Quinn's agent is Tom Condon, not Ethan Locke.

If that's true, then that's just embarrassing. How in the world can an agent not be able to give at least a little attention to multiple clients? Can you imagine anyone telling their clients in any industry, "sorry....I can't help you. I can only handle one account/client at a time". I work for a law firm and can't even imagine it.
It's not like this guy is giving Quinn 24 hours a day of service. It's just not possible. Especially considering the majority of this contract stuff is done through e-mail or phone calls, where there is plenty of dead time while the other side looks over your current proposal and marks it up. He could easily switch gears to his other client and take care of him during that time.
What a fool.

No you guys were right my bad. Condon is Quinn's agent. This is what I have heard is what's going on.
Quinn is looking for a deal that is about the same as Matt Leinarts was, just a little less money. He feels he deserves it being the future of the Browns franchise and since the Browns don't have a first round pick next year, they can give it to him.
Ethan Locke, Bowe's agent, is known for getting the most money for his clients, which is mainly the reason why most of his players aren't in camp on time. Locke apparently is waiting for Quinn's deal to be done so that Bowe can demand KC to get a deal done that is on par with Quinn's considering he was picked one spot after Quinn.
Good business move. If that happened, which is very possible, Bowe's agent will be asking for a lot more money than he would have gotten with the regular 10% more than last years 23rd overall pick.
