Ah yes. We all grew up with this ageless classic.

Since I'm apparantly slow to the party, I discovered the other day that the tools exist to allow a person to easily modify many things about this game, including players, attributes, teams, divsion setups, logos, colors, etc.

I'm currently trying out a "Champions League" edition that includes:

1966 Green Bay Packers
1968 New York Jets
1969 Kansas City Chiefs
1970 Baltimore Colts
1972 Miami Dolphins
1975 Pittsburgh Steelers
1976 Oakland Raiders
1977 Dallas Cowboys
1978 Pittsburgh Steelers
1982 Washington Redskins
1983 Los Angeles Raiders
1984 San Francisco 49ers
1985 Chicago Bears
1986 New York Giants
1987 Washington Redskins
1989 San Francisco 49ers
1990 New York Giants
1991 Washington Redskins
1992 Dallas Cowboys
1994 San Francisco 49ers
1996 Green Bay Packers
1998 Denver Broncos
1999 St. Louis Rams
2000 Baltimore Ravens
2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2004 New England Patriots
2005 Pittsburgh Steelers
2006 Indianapolis Colts

It's pretty fun and I'd like to go ahead and make my own version, but I'm trying to come up with some ideas. People are already working on an 2007-2008 version and this champions version is done as well so those are out. I was thinking of maybe doing something like every team with their all-time great players, so you could have a Denver team with players like Elway, Davis, Little, Gradishar, Zimmerman, Taylor, Jackson(s), Wright, Sharpe, Smith, so on and so forth. Anyone have any other cool ideas?

Could have all decade teams face each other in a round robin tournament.

50's vs. 60's, 70's vs 80's etc.

maybe you could have a game where you relive great infamous moments in the NFl, you could play LT when Theezman broke his leg. Or maybe you could be Sharpe during Derrick Thomas's meltdown on MNF in 1998.

I've had the emulator for years now and enjoying all the old games. Every now and then it's fun to spend an evening reliving the past. However, being able to hack the ROMs is new to me.

I like the all-decade team tournament idea Atlas. There are a few ways to build the teams and ensure they make it to the post-season where you could start the tournament. Would be fun to get someone to play for each team and have an on-line tournament with them.

A guy could also do something like an NCAA league too, but I'm not much of a college guy myself.

Best TSB faqs ever. A must read if you enjoy the game. A good way to kill a couple hours at work too

If you want to play pretty much every Nintendo game go here:

I have found this to be the best emulator.

Wouldnt the broncos' greats team just be full of Hixons?

I hate to plug the Raiders, but "Tecmo Bo Jackson" was the shizzle on that game, anybody will tell ya....all 11 defenders would bounce of him...he was insane...

It was Bo AND Marcus.... They dominated. I hated playing the raiders.

Two words: Bob Nelson.

It's also fun to have the debate on wether you'd take David Fulcher or Wayne Haddix.

Rod "God" Woodson was also unstoppable in TSB 3 on defesne and as a returner.

Apparently you can play Tecmo Super Bowl (original NES version) online against other people with an emulator. I've never tried it, but it sounds fun.

That's what I was refering to in one of my posts above about playing a tournament. People set up leagues with drafts and compete against each other.

http://www.famssu.com/tecmo/ is a good place to look with a lot of information if you are interested in it at all.

This site http://www.knobbe.org/ also has some great forums that will guide you through hacking the game or just for general interest about the game.

Screw madden, tecmo super bowl forever!!

There was no Bo antidote.

Bruce Smith was pretty friggin fast, for a defender. He achieved top speed very quickly and could run 40 yards in about 2 seconds.

LT was the closest thing to it then. Plus, it was impossible to kick a field goal/PAT against the giants..LT would block it each time

Yeah but being a DL he had one OL always chasing him around to block him. LT was far and away the best defender on the game with Lott not too far behind.

Tecmo Super Bowl may be my favorite game of all time.

I still play it now from time to time with friends on my NES....(yes i still have it)

I am the best all-time....

I know more about that game than i know about my wife...

I didn't know you could play the game with updated players etc.....that sounds really fun...

how do i do that?

Actually, David Fulcher, Wayne Haddix, and Bob Nelson are all better than LT or Lott. Not that those guys are bad, but those 3 I mentioned are pretty much the top 3 defenders in TSB. Although LT is probably the best LB in the game.

QB Eagles is the probably the best offensive player, but Montana to Rice is pretty much unstoppable no matter who you are.

First you will have to download an emulator, if you don't already have one. Easy to find, google it.

Then download the orginial TSB rom to play on the emulator. Also easy to find.

Go to the forum link I posted up above. Go into the Tecmo Roms forum. They have all sorts of different roms for TSB 1, 2, and 3. Find one that you like and download it. Load it in your emulator and go to town.

Only tricky part could be this, depending on who wrote the rom. To avoid legal issues, people write the file in .isp format and then you have to patch this file into your original rom. This is because you are supposed to own the orginial game in order to download the rom, and it is technically illegal to alter it and provide it to others. So instead you download the .isp file, and find an isp patcher (google again). Then you use the patcher and patch the orginial rom with the .isp file. Viola, you now have the updated TSB to play on your emulator.

2006-2007 is the latest season out with all the new players, ratings etc., and there are people done with the 2007-2008 version, but are waiting until late August to release so rosters are finalized.

Now if you want to edit the roms yourself or make your .isp file to share, you need a program called TSB Manager. This lets you get into the hex code and make adjustments. It's all in the sites I linked above if you are interested. That way you can do things like boost ratings to the comp to make it harder, let them play like your 16-0 from week 1, so it's more challenging, adjust ratings, etc.

BTW, finished the champions edition 16-0 and getting ready for the playoffs now.

Does anyone remember Baseball Simulator 1.000? That was the coolest baseball game for the NES ever. You could create your own teams, leagues, players. When I was a kid a few neighbor kids and I played a entire 162 games season against each other, we scheduled games at different times of the day and kept actual scorebooks of the entire season. We even had our own "Street and Smith's" mag that we made for our made up league, where we made up interviews, season outlooks. We even played a minor league season and called up players. The only sunshine I got that summer was when I had to really practice and play baseball.

Ah, yes... QB Eagles always brought a whole new dimension to the game. Playing against a player using the Eagles was always challenging. He was the original Mike Vick.

It's super easy bro. It only sounds hard because I'm not necesarily good with words.

None of these are barn buster programs. It's really simple, 15 sec downloads.

Emulator = nes on your comp
ROM (read only memory) = game
ISP = a patch or update to the orginal ROM

If you are really interested and need some help just PM me, I'll do what I can.
