Broncos eyeing Wesley?
<Jul. 10> Don't be surprised to see the Broncos make a deal for a veteran safety in the days leading up to training camp or in the early stages of the preseason, writes Pro Football Weekley.
Denver was close to a deal with the Chiefs for Wesley in late June, and talks could heat up again soon. The emergence of second-year safeties Jarrad Page and Bernard Pollard in Kansas City has made Wesley and his $2.7 million base salary expendable.
Interesting...thoughts???

Well with Sam Brandon now sitting out two games and Lynch and Fergy on the wrong end of age I could see this. But he sounds like a Deltha Oneil type at Safety. Gambles a ton and makes a big play once every full moon.

He's not really a gambler. He's adept at playing centerfield but rarely jumps a route to pick off a pass. When his head is in the game he's an upgrade to any of Denver's safeties, but sadly he has lapses from time to time. Last year he got run over by a Browns backup quarterback who's name escapes me at the moment.

I'm wondering as well. If he's making a couple million to sit on the bench, I can't imagine his spot will be there long. If he knows there's a possibility of grabbing the starting position and maybe winning it for the season if he outplays everyone else could be incentive to come here rather than ride the pine elsewhere.
That being said, maybe a 7th to get him into our camp rather than wait for him to be final cuts?

I like Wesley but I think Denver has good depth at Safety. I could see Denver signing a S that had more upside for next year.
Maybe Shanny is worried about the injuries.

You folks honestly have issues with just how good John Lynch is. He's really declining. If you got Wesley I'd actually have someone to be a bit scared of in your secondary other than Champ. Right now, when the Chiefs play the Broncos, Lynch just disappears.

Well we have to give it to Boob he does know about players disappearing and way on the decline. He watches it every year. We only see it every few years here in Denver.

Where is your proof of this? Do you get the coaches' game film? We, as fans, rarely actually see the secondary. So give me your proof of where lynch is "declining"

He's not a playmaker anymore. Occasionally he makes a big hit and everyone here goes OMG JOHN LYNCH IS SO AWESOME but mostly he's just a punching bag for running backs like Larry Johnson:

Its not like the camera is panned in on the box from start to finish...you often see the secondary go to work. You don't have to be a HOF football coach to figure out how well your secondary is doing.

Wesley would be a good pick up for Denver. He is a good hitter. A bit inconsistent though, sometimes he will disappear but is generally a solid player. He will get some pretty huge plays for you here and there as well. The whole "he gambles" comment couldn't have been more wrong though...my biggest concern for him out there is his speed and at times his focus.

No.
Wesley has 25 interceptions in the last five years.
I doubt every safety COMBINED on your roster can approach that figure in the same time frame.

Me and Clayton have been hanging out over at Chef's Planet the last few days ... right Clay?
Here's one of the representative responses when I asked about Wesley:
Welcome aboard, Mr. Buff. Looking forward to some quality football squabbling in the future.
We did hear about that rumor. We did discuss it.
ChiefsPlanet essentially is willing to throw him over to you guys for that 5th because we feel he's a physically talented but mentally lapsing safety who simply doesn't focus, but the Chiefs organization's apparently afraid to pull the trigger because the Donks are a rival and that might wake up Wesley from whatever mental slumber he's been in for the past six years.
Don't let that "Welcome aboard" nicety fool you though ... they're VICIOUS over there! :~ohyah!:
In fact, I'm gonna start a thread about my Chefs Planet experiences that last week ....
If we can get him cheap for one year, I'd do it. Then I'd draft the best S we can get next year. Lynch is average right now. Hurts you on some plays and others he does the job. But it could be that he has a much better year if we can finally get a pass rush and hopefully Bly turns out to be solid and that will only help also. Plus playing in Bates system, even more help.

First of all, if anything bad happens and someone from the secondary screwed up you are going to see it about a million times from a million angles...they love showing how plays unfold. I am sorry you are blind and can't see the secondary on TV I don't know what else to tell you friend.

If he isn't good enough for the Chiefs he's certainly not good enough for Denver...i like our S's we have, if he gets cut pick him up but don't give them any of our draft picks even if it's a 7th.

Are you freaking kidding me Bob??!! We might not win at Arrowhead in November, but I can recall a few hits that lynch has delivered on your WR's.
I don't recall Chef saftey's putting hits on our receiving corp. Take the hit on Chris Henry during week 16 against the Bungles. How many Chef Saftey's make that play and jar the ball loose? Probably none. Lynch may be declining, but he is still has an intimidating presence on the field. Something no starting
Chef S can claim.
Even though it would be nice to have one, Denver has rarely ever relied on a ball hawking safety. 25 ints is nice though. He could be good depth. And full of some useful info I'll bet.

Funny because I remember someone publishing some passing metrics that Lynch was one of the best safeties in the league over the last couple of years. I'm too lazy to search for it.
But hey, let's just rock on with what we see on TV and our biased opinions.

I like how Neil Smith came to Denver and won 2 Super Bowls. Chef fans didn't even have the class to cheer for him for the 9 seasons he put in there during his first trip back to arrowhead. Whatever, only chance chef players have of sniffing a SB is to move on to another team anyway.

Good God no.
How many highlight reels is Wesley in getting drug into the end zone trying to make a half-hearted strip/tackle.
I am not going to argue that is better or worse than Lynch, I am just gonna say he sucks. Let him fade to retirement in the ketchup and mustard.

Guys like these Chiefs homers still buy into the under-researched idea that he is somehow seriously declining.

How did that work out for the Cheefs? I seem to remember a 400+ carry RB that could not break 40 yards in the next game vs one of the worst Run D's in the league.
That was a true gift.
