View Full Version : So. . . what video game are you getting tomorrow?

All-Pro 2K8 and NCAA08 are set to come out tomorrow with Madden having an August 14th launch date. I'm just curious to see how many of you will be hitting the stores tomorrow to get either of this, or perhaps both.
Pay day is tomorrow for me, but I haven't decided which I'm going to get. I'm leaning more towards 2K8. I could get both, but there would go about 75% of my money.

Thanks guys. I think I'll pick up NCAA08. I might just go pawn off Madden 07 and NCAA07 to make a couple quick bucks, even if it's only like 25 combined.
If you can create-a-school that'll even be better.
I wonder if NDSU will be on this years game? Probably not.
Creating myself out of high school or any prospect seems awesome, and by the looks of the new recruiting stuff, it looks epic. :D

FYI, its not NFL 2k8, its All-Pro 2k8 with historical players, no player editor, and no franchise mode.
Its basically an arcade game that lest you play single seasons with your created team. Completely disappointing. And its all because Take 2/VC is worried about offending the NFL for when the license comes back up again in a few years. News flash boys, you can't and won't outbid EA. Just make a game people actually want to play.
I'ma try NCAA out, if its good I'll pick it up, otherwise I'll stick with NCAA '07 on my PSP. So sweet having full dynasty mode on a portable.

call me a gaming junkie because I am but for some reason, I hate sports games, besides golf. This year it was winning eleven: pro evolution. It has with out a doubt the best football game around I just hate the master league ( its there version of carer mode). I mostly play FIFA due to more teams and the manager mode is allot better. The 360 version of pro evolution sucked. No editing or stats at the end of the game. I'm tired of playing as Myerside red instead of Liverpool. Still has very few licenses. Why is there only 4 divisions in master league when you have all these teams? I hope the next one is better.

Same with Madden if different way how long can you play and not get bored being up by 30-60 points game after game. I'm going to try Madden 08 myself this year just to see what is better. I had Madden 05 and I played it two weeks and never played it again
reasons.
1. My longest run ever was 3 yds so I passed 99% of the time used same 3 plays and still won by 21 pts or more. yawn
2k5 It was tougher for me to score and I had closer games.
I'm not ripping on you in anyway and its cool you like Madden more. Is it more for Franchise trades etc then gameplay for you.

see i have heard that before about people killing the computer in Madden...i must suck then because i dont beat the computer by that much untili well after about 3 months of playing or so.....but i really try and spread my stats out too and get as many guys in the pro bowl as possible....in Madden 05 it was a bit easier because i dont think the passing cones were invented yet, allowing ridiculous across the field throws
I end up playing more online than anything else.....also, i love doing the draft and building up a team (no ridiculous trades or anything)

I got NCAA earlier today and I've been playing for a few hours. The campus legend thing is cool, and I was a five-star recruit coming out of the state tournament as a RB named Tre Walker. All the top schools wanted me, and a whole lot more. I wasn't able to start on any top 25 team, but Hawaii, BYU and Navy I could have been starters on, plus a lot of the lesser schools like FIU, etc. So I went to California, since they're a top 20 team and I was second string. I worked hard in practice, (you have to practice to move your way up the charts) and I was able to start by Week 3 versus Louisianna Tech. I stopped there, cause I wanted to see what Dynasty mode was like.
It's awesome. The game play is way more realistic, and the tackling looks real. It's not as fast as in the past, (like speed wise, way more realistic) and you can tell when players get really tired. The recruiting (new and improved) is awesome, and hilarious at the same time. I love when the high school kids basically tell you to **** off if you're wasting them time with questions they don't want to answer.
You can recruit up to 35 people (targets) throughout the season. I'd strongly suggest not to do more than 20. I'm on Week 3, and only about 4-5 guys who weren't Florida natives want to come to FSU. You get ten hours of phone calls a week, and there's no way you can get the answers you want that reveal their interests (so you can pitch 'em) unless you're an absolute gem at guessing when you have 35 prospects.
Here's a tip. Try to find as many 4-5 star recruits in the state your school is in, or your pipeline states. They'll be interested from the get go, and if the respective school is in their top three or five to begin with, they'll answer any questions and usually talk as long as you want. Anyone who is not in your top three, you'll have to sweet talk to for a couple of weeks.
If you're not in their top ten and they're a five star recruit, I wouldn't even bother, unless he's someone you really have to have. I tried going after the #4 prospect in the nation who was a Wide Receiver, and I kept pitching one question and this was the response that showed up on the screen. . . "Well FSU Coach, I wish I could tell you I enjoyed speaking to you, but my mother taught me that lying was wrong. This just isn't right for me."
I laughed so hard, as if I was molesting him over the phone. Pretty crazy stuff. You can move your prospects up and down the boards to spend more time with them and get better interest the higher they are up. Some prospects like you so much, they might want to visit right away. Do not do it. Unless they're over half the way full, schedule them in the middle of the season, and always try to get a nice big game at around week 6 or 7.
Some prospects wills sign right away, but since I don't target many 3 stars, or any at all - I don't really care. :D
I like it a lot. It is definitely time consuming though. If you're beating the piss out of a team 28-0, just Super Sim the rest of the game, or go quarter by quarter to make sure you win. All it takes is about 4-5 minutes to get a big lead, and let the computer do the rest, because recruiting if you're into it will take up so much damn time.
Anyways, it's a good game. No Create-A-Team though.
Go get it.

Yeah, I was undecided if I would get both or not until I played it. I played a lot of Madden 07 last year but I completely agree with you on this.
To compare, if Madden 08 had come out looking and playing this good, everyone would be amazed and say how much EA improved the game. Also, playing with Elway and Walter Payton on the same team is awesome. Shannon Sharpe is one of the top TEs in the game, too.

I will get NCAA, and I was totally stoked for 2k (love it, hate madden) but since there is no off season, draft/free agent I will prob pass on it.
Have you played R6 Vegas? If so, how does GRAW2 compare?
I like GRAW2 much better. Even much better then original GRAW. It's only going to keep getting better once custom maps, missions and guns are made.
Insugency is the real deal as well. I quite honestly think it's the most realistic battle environment I've played. The sounds are by far the best. When you fire a gun, you don't just hear it either, you feel it. Not literally but the sound is so impressive and the recoils are so realistic, you really feel engaged. Alot of little things too. When you jump off a ledge or wall, you see and feel the jolt of hitting the ground. You'd have to play it to really understand what I'm saying. It's free so why not? I guarantee this will win MOD of the year. If it wasn't a MOD, it would win game of the year. That's how good it is. Be warned though, it was developed so that it takes time to get used to it and be good at it. CS dudes are not gonna just jump right in and light it up. You have to think in this game. You go rambo and you're dead meat, just like in real life. At the same time, it does have enough "arcade" feel and speed to make it fun, not just some sim.
And for those console lovers. Everything was heading your way the past few years but now DX10 changes everything. Just read up on some of the features this is allowing PC game developers to implement. 2008 is going to see some huge improvments in PC gaming. Crisis is probably the first to integrate it into the game and DX10 was an infant when they did so. With a few tweaks, the lighting and objects are gonna be unreal.......no pun there. :strong:

Sounds like ncaa is a lot better than it has been in the past. Do they still have the crowd meter where the crowd gets all pumped up..i was always kinda hoping madden would get something like that and get the crowd more involved in how a team plays, like the away team getting more false start calls and what not. Also if your killing teams put it on the hardest difficult level and go to settings go to AI go to computer Offense and defense and slide all there sliders all the way to the right so there better at run blocking, better at getting INT's and what not..makes for harder games and way less scoring!!

Always been a fan of the 2K series b/c of the realism. Madden is just not realistic and plays more to the arcade player. 80 yard bombs every scoring play is not life-like. Unfortunately, the 2K series was killed... until now. I think the new 2K game looks pretty interesting, but I will prob rent it first to make sure it's the same gameplay, and not like Blitz. I did however buy NCAA 08 yesterday. It is pretty good, but pretty much the same gameplay as Madden. Some improved features like a hitstick 2.0 where you can go either high or low. Graphics are awesome too. (I have a 360) Anyways, it will all be moot once H3 comes out. =P

Personally I think NCAA 08 plays pretty damn good so far.
As for 2k5, I never liked their way, about tapping A to "turbo" through a tackle or make a tackle. I thought 2k5 was more arcadey than Madden was. Just my opinion though.
APF 2k8 seems to be pretty solid, but not just my type of game. Gameplay is really good from what I'm hearing, but I need substance, like franchise/dynasty.

I'm disappointed with All Pro 2k8. I scored 56 points in my first game and although it was fun have a John Sharpe combo I'd rather have players of today. Gameplay is good my biggest problem was the 40 sec clock really elapsed fast I got quite a few delay of game flags.

2K8 is wicked fun. Floyd Little up the gut, Elway to Rice on a Slant route, then Elway to Brent Jones in the flats. First down.

My buddy bought the 2K8 game just cause Elway was one the cover then he told me it's like a fantasy draft to assemble a team, he has as many Broncos as he can get but I think that's kinda lame, I would rather play the classic teams on Madden and have all Broncos, I also didn't like switching games back and forth cause I would always screw up the buttons, if I got used to one game I would mess up the other.
He also said it's very much like the Blitz game, with some of the gameplay and the fact that the players talk crap on the field, I just can't imagine Elway scrambling for a first then telling Dexter Manley "Your Mama!"
I will be picking up my NCAA 08 later this week.:sunshine:

I played NCAA 08 with my friend on his 360 like all night last night. So much fun. I'm not that much of a gamer(I have a rarely used PS1) but I really liked playing with LSU although I get really frustrated with some of the unrealistic things in video games. Honestly, wtf did I get 9 INTs in a game? How does that make any sense, I have CFB's fastest player(Trindon Holliday) even with the defender and yet Matt Flynn underthrows it. 9 INTs in a game, makes no sense. Games are still high scoring even though it's LSU, 50 points on average. On the other hand, Early Doucet rips it up in that game along with freshman Terrance Tolliver, they burnt all day. The running game can be pretty good, there just aren't many plays it seems like. I'm not that good at the actual gameplay but the mental part, I dominate. I get really frustrated when I do the mental part and then I press the wrong button or the computer does random crap like underthrow balls. All in all, NCAA 08 is a lot of fun to play against someone, I didn't try the other modes though. I'm looking forward to Madden '08 for sure, I did pretty good in '06 without Cutler although there were times where I wanted to kill Jake. I love Shanahan's playbook, I'm pretty unstoppable on offense but I'm horrible at defense, tackling specifically. I can get some good blitzes going though.

Does anyone remember NFL Xtreme with Mike Alstott on the cover, around 1998. I love that game, its just the Tight End snapping the ball, two receivers, a running back, and a QB. It's so unrealistic and so fun. For the season Elway is the top passer with like 16,000 yards. Ed and Rod are top two receivers with like 4,000 yards each. Sharpe is all day on a streak so he has like 7,000 yards. TD doesn't get the ball much besides KRs but he still has 500-1,000 yards. It's so ridiculous though, there's no first downs, just 20 yard first down lines, 80 yard field, no out of bounds(you just run against an invisible wall), the hits are cheesy(backfields and helmets flying), and you late hit after every play with trash talk.

2K8 is nothing like Blitz. There are no extreme taunts and Elway doesn't talk crap. The game is rated 10+ yrs old.
I've played Madden for years and the game play on 2k8 is a far better sim and has much better player motion than any Madden version I've ever played.
I have played Blitz - older versions and the most recent "The League" version - they are completely arcade style football. There is no comparison to 2k8 whatsoever.

The 360 version of pro evolution sucked. No editing or stats at the end of the game. I'm tired of playing as Myerside red instead of Liverpool. Still has very few licenses. Why is there only 4 divisions in master league when you have all these teams? I hope the next one is better.
The PC version of Pro Evo is the way to go. Unfortunately they didn't release it in the US so I had to torrent it off of the internet.
Pro Evo + the Superpatch mod + the Tommsen Chant's Pack mod = By far the best Soccer game on the market.
