Leave it to Rich Tuten to say something like that. I mean, the dude is more like the angry drill sargeant in Full Metal Jacket than a coach. But since strength and conditioning is his domain, he has vowed that our player’s constitution will not come between Denver and another Super Bowl ring.
“A strength coach is only good if he makes people do more than they would do on their own. I try to make things challenging to them.”
– Rich Tuten 7/12/07
And how does he ‘challenge’ them? Well, one way is to make them face “The Beast.” The Beast is a 300 pound wooden sled that players must push 25 yards across a grass field (with no wheels). Think that’s rough? Try doing it twelve times in a row!
Players hate The Beast. In fact, it’s the most feared tool Tuten has at his disposal.
“Knowing Tuten, there is a little bit of sadistic stuff going on there. But it all has value going into the season, going into camp. You get your legs ready.”
– Chris Myers 7/12/07
If you don’t believe The Beast is really that bad. Check out this CBS4 video coverage (http://cbs4denver.com/sports/local_story_191165019.html) of the players pushing it. Wait til the end of the video, when you see Herculean men doubled over on the field gasping for breath — then tell me it’s a piece of cake.

I played football in high school with Tuten's son. Every once in a while, Rick would come watch one of our practices. I think our strenght/conditioning coach would try to impress him a little. We all dreaded the days when Will's dad showed up because we had to work our tails off on those days.

God help our soldiers if he is indicitive of the Marine Corps.
Im not a fan of Tuten. Every year he says the same ****, every year everyone is impressed and every year people go down because they aren't well conditioned early in the season.
For once Id like to see no conditioning related injuries in the first few weeks, you know, like cramping, tweaked muscles, etc.

Alec, if you're thinking of the Miami opener two years ago, I think the weather was the biggest factor. No matter what shape you were in that day, you wouldda been sapped. The guys who had the worst cramps were uniformly the kuckleheads (Lenny Walls) who probably didn't think to drink, drink, drink.

No, Im talking every year, for the first few games of the year. I didnt even think of Miami until you mentioned it when 90% of the secondary went down with cramps.

Tuten is a valuable asset that we can't let leave. I'm glad to see Jarvis was interviewed and realized how hard it is in the league.

Cramping is about drinking water. However someone posted a study and the Broncos have a pretty high amount of soft tissue injuries. Which can relate to stretching (or not enough of it) and other training related things.
If you're looking for a reason we lost our first games of the season recently, it's because Plummer has always thrown at least two interceptions in his first games of the season his entire career - even in his really good year in 2006.

No, I wasnt even referring to wins and losses. I was referring to injuries only.
But hey, way to throw a dig on Plummer for no reason Lil Taco.

That's adorable, but I honestly didn't know what you meant. Taco minion or not, Plummer has one of the worst opening day records in QB history for the Broncos and as a QB in general. That's just how it is.
But you're right in that we have a lot of strains, tweaks and whatnot. Cramping is more to do with what you put in your body and and keeping it hydrated than any type of regimen, though Tuten might be in charge of that too.

I thought it was. Yes Taco has posted on numerous occassions how horrible Plummer has been opening day of almost every year in the NFL. But since I never say anything about our win/loss record but specifically said I was not impressed due to the early season injuries....well it doesnt take a genius, but apparently you are not counted amongst that group :P

Tuten is S&C coach which means it is his job to make sure these dip**** shoulda been high school dropouts understand that you have to drink lots of water in Florida in August. The strains and tweaks were mostly what I was referring to.
