PATRICK LEAVING ESPN ON AUGUST 17
Dan Patrick says that he'll be leaving ESPN on August 17.
"We've talked about it, and it's time to move on," Patrick said on his self-named ESPN Radio program. (And move out.)
Patrick confirms that the delayed announcement was due to the fact that discussions occurred last week with an eye toward keeping him in place. Also, Patrick said nothing about leaving ESPN Radio and staying with ESPN.
He says that he'll be a "free agent." It's expected that he will attempt to launch a nationwide syndicated radio show.

PFT.com finally gets a story right. Well, it was hard to mess that one up. Patrick announced it on his radio show about 40 minutes ago.

Dan Patrick was still on ESPN? I had no clue. I thought he left years ago and only cameback to do those lame "Coors Light ice cold six pack" questions.
He was lame anyway.

Wow. Whose career has fallen further? Patrick or Olbermann? One is basically nothing more than a lame radio host while the other is a credibility-starved conspiracy kook hosting cable news' lowest-rated show.

Both are making top money and both are in demand from sponsors and different organizations. Hardly the definition of the "fallen".

Good for Dan. ESPiN is a garbage network IMO outside the actual broadcasting of sports.

Back in the mid 90's Patrick was entertaining to me but it seems like his jokes got a lot less funny when he got his radio show. I don't really watch the NBA so I never enjoyed his NBA on ABC stuff. It is time for him to move on to something else, or maybe I should say it has been time for him to move on to something else.

TJ, Jaws, Kenny Mayne during the football season....and Rachel Nichols isn't bad to look at. People can speak poorly of espn all they want, and talk about all the annoying personalities, but I enjoy watching their pre-game shows on Sundays more than any other network's.

I really like Kenny Mayne's dry sense of humor. I wrote in his name for president of our homeowner's association. Only guy running is a moron.

Any chance he'll take Stuart Scott with him so we never have to see him again?

Nice, another sportscaster who thinks he's bigger than the stories he reports on is gone. Just needs to take Stuart Scott and Kenny Mayne with.

I heard D.P. has sights set on hosting "The Price Is Right" now. Just a rumor I heard on ESPN radio the other day.

I'm guessing that your take here is skewed by your political slant. Both Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann are wildly successful. Keith Olbermann's show is the fastest growing news show right now, and is in talks with NBC to take a much more prominent role on their network. His career has done nothing but blow up since he left ESPN, and you're going to be seeing more, not less of him over the next few years once his new contract with NBC gets finalized.
As far as Dan Patrick's career falling? What are you talking about? He's probably the biggest name in sports anchoring. He got so big that he basically wrote his own ticket at ESPN... and it looks like he's getting ready to do it again.

I kinda miss the ol' heyday of ESPN. Patrick hardly does any Sportcenter's neither does Bermen. Stuart Scott is annoying(maybe it's his lazy eye) but it seems like he is the new poster boy for the network. I wish they had a show with Kenny Mayne, Scott, Stephen J, Deion Sanders, Mike Irvin, Dan Marino all on one show called "See how $hitty we are!!" Maybe throw Steve Young in there just to watch his head explode.

Good for Dan. I liked him and Olberman as anchors when they were doing it years ago and his radio show was the only one I liked on espn radio. The guy was pretty much the face of espn/sportscenter for years.

It's not his fault probably, just the way people are raised there.
