but.....but.....footsteps told us nothing would be accomplished by further searching......

If there is half as much evidence as we've been led to believe...bloody carpet, dog fighting instruments, receipts for syringes, dozens of scarred and malnourished dogs, half the state of Virginia eager to testify of their personal knowledge of his nefarious deeds...it would hardly make much difference if something were burried deep in the woods.

The point is, the cops have easily had enough time to do their homework.

I agree with his post. They should have their homework done by now. It doesn't sound like they'll have a problem proving there was dog fight on the property, the question is Vick's involvment.

These things take time....the more you rush, the more you make mistakes and the whole case gets thrown out, especially with a guy like Vick with huge legal resources at his disposal. If they don't cross every T and dot every I, they can kiss this whole thing goodbye; and they know it.

There's a lot going on behind the scenes right now; you can bet on it. The feds already have what appears to be a pretty solid case against "the house" right now. I'm willing to bet they received some new info in the past month that told them it would be worth it to "dig" further.

Might have to do with the number of charges brought against the offenders. If they find 30 remains could be 30 counts brought against the defendents.
I am no attorney but isnt that the way prosecuters usually work?

Eh...no I didn't...because that's not what I said. As my quote proves, I stated they'd had enough time...MORE than enough time to find something....which is true; they have. The initial investigation by the Surrey County Sherrif's office was conducted on April 25th...that was 73 days ago. Then there was another followup visit by federal investigators on June 7th...29 days ago. So we have 2 1/2 months since the first visit and 1 month since the feds sent their guys in...exactly how much time is needed to find something they didn't find the first time...or the second time? This is now the 3rd visit. If they find nothing now, it's entirely possible it's been removed, so at what point do they decide that they've paid this place enough visits? Four times? Five? A dozen?

Forensics guys investigating murder scenes don't take this long.

Read the article...even the Surrey County DA says the Feds are simply pursuing a "parallel investigation" and piling on because it's Michael Vick. At some point, it's time to either **** or get off the pot.

I expected better of you than that, footsteps. You should know that in this investigation, time isn't as important as getting it right. Yes, they have searched the premises twice. And they found plenty. They did NOT however have a warrant to do any digging in the prior searches, NOR did they have enough evidence to do so before those searches were conducted. Now, after conducting those searches and gathering more evidence over the last few weeks, they DID get enough evidence to pull the "dig" warrant.

Forensics guys investigating murder scenes don't take this long.

Sure they do. Depends on the case and where they are searching. Naturally, some places cannot be sealed for long periods, so they have to get things done more quickly....but forensic investigations can easily last months. Someone has been watching too much tv.

Read the article...even the Surrey County DA says the Feds are simply pursuing a "parallel investigation" and piling on because it's Michael Vick. At some point, it's time to either **** or get off the pot.

Wow. Just wow. First of all, your argument here is misleading. First, the DA said they were piling on. Then, after speaking with them he backtracked, acknowledged that they were conducting a parallel, but separate investigation. When he said it was parallel he did not mean anything negative, but you are implying that it did.

But regardless, let's bring the DA into this....his credibility is about as solid as Nifrong's these days....

Now, after conducting those searches and gathering more evidence over the last few weeks, they DID get enough evidence to pull the "dig" warrant.
Where are you getting all that? It sounds like pure speculation. In fact the article specifically states that the Surrey County DA's office DID have enough to get a warrant to dig back in late May:
Surry County officials had secured a search warrant in late May based on an informant's information to look for as many as 30 dog carcasses buried on the property.
So the Feds could have easily accepted the evidence they had for their own warrant at the same time. What you're telling me is that it took 29 days to get a warrant to dig when the local prosecutor already had one to do just that? That's how long the Feds have been absent since their last visit. None of that makes sense.

Second, even if it could be shown they DIDN'T have enough evidence to get that warrant at the time, and since they've not been back again until now...what new evidence could they possibly have NOW that they didn't have 29 days ago which entitles them to a warrant? Answer...none. No matter how you slice it, the Feds have had ample time long before now to do this but didn't.
Sure they do. Depends on the case and where they are searching. Naturally, some places cannot be sealed for long periods, so they have to get things done more quickly....but forensic investigations can easily last months. Someone has been watching too much tv.
I don't watch TV...more to the point, can you imagine police forensics investigators on a murder scene allowing suspects access to the crime scene for a month between visits? That's sheer nonsense. Cops routinely seal off crime scenes under investigation. Suppose there WAS something there Vick or somebody else wanted to dispose of? Don't you think they've had ample opportunity to do so by now? I mean if you give the perps a month's worth of unfettered access after you left the first time don't you think anyone with even a 10 cent brain can figure out how to eliminate evidence?
Wow. Just wow. First of all, your argument here is misleading. First, the DA said they were piling on. Then, after speaking with them he backtracked, acknowledged that they were conducting a parallel, but separate investigation. When he said it was parallel he did not mean anything negative, but you are implying that it did.
There's nothing missleading about what I said. Here's the exact quote:
At the time, Poindexter expressed surprise at why the federal government was involved.

"What is foreign to me is the federal government getting into a dogfighting case," Poindexter said. "I know it's been done, but what's driving this? Is it this boy's celebrity? Would they have done this if it wasn't Michael Vick?"

A day later, "They launched a separate, independent federal investigation," Poindexter said of the government, which has had a representative involved in the local probe all along.

"We are just pursuing parallel investigations."
It's crystal clear what he meant. The Fed's had their own guy...the "representative involved in the local probe all along"...obviously his remarks regarding their motives were meant in a negative light. I don't understand why you think otherwise.
But regardless, let's bring the DA into this....his credibility is about as solid as Nifrong's these days....
Really? Why is that? Nifong lost his credibility for hiding evidence from the defense and making inappropriate comments to the press before the case even went to court. This guy's done nothing but maintain a public position of neutrality, even going out of his way to maintain that he was witholding judgement pending the investigation, and if you're accusing him of deliberately failing to investigate because of who Vick is there's no evidence of that either. It says he didn't execute the warrant because of how it was worded. We haven't seen it so we don't know what it said. Maybe it didn't offer them the kind of access he wanted, or perhaps he thought it might be overturned on appeal based on some technicality...we don't have any idea what the story is. If it WAS a viable warrant why didn't the Feds use it themselves 29 days ago? They had an investigator there all along so they could have launched their own digging expedition anytime they wished if they had access to the same evidence. If the warrant was good the feds could have used it...if it was bad they've had an entire month in the meantime to get their own.

Who's running this show...FEMA?

Just got this off of ESPN.com. It looks like the idiot might skate because they don't have evidence directly linking him. That's the scoop according to Mortensen. If he gets off because of lack of evidence, I hope that Kharma follows him to the football field and the rest of his life.

"Additionally, Vick is unlikely to be indicted in the dogfighting federal investigation, according to information gathered by the NFL and Atlanta Falcons, sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The authorities have told the Falcons and league that there has not been any evidence that can be tied to Vick with the alleged dogfighting ring, the sources said.

The law enforcement authorities have privately told league and team officials that at least three people are expected to be indicted but the identities of those individuals were unknown. "

Hmmm...guess there are two primary possibilities then; 1) he wasn't involved to begin with, or 2) the long wait between visits to collect evidence gave him ample time to dispose of evidence.

Feds: Dog fights staged on Vick property (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070707/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_falcons_vick_13;_ylt=AsgDYP2AosBA.b8wo6ibN9sE1 vAI)

SURRY, Va. - A property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was used as the "main staging area for housing and training the pit bulls involved" in an alleged dogfighting operation, according to court documents.

http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070706/capt.c7399ddee7d04f0599154d7010b4c4ca.vick_investi gation_vash102.jpg?x=380&y=274&sig=qbqeehpB3DpUad3eaiwcBA--
State and Federal officials carry out coolers of evidence to a truck as they search the grounds behind the home owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick in Smithfield, Va., Friday, July 6, 2007. The officials were looking for evidence in dog fighting investigation. Vick has said he rarely visited the property. No charges have been filed. During an April 25 drug raid at the property, authorities seized 66 dogs, including 55 pit bulls, and equipment commonly used in dogfighting. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)

The papers, filed by federal authorities, give details for the first time about what authorities contend was a long-running dogfighting venture. Vick is not named in the documents.

On Friday, federal agents searched the property for a second time, using a backhoe to dig in an area about 10 feet wide by 20 feet wide. They finished their work at about 4:30 p.m. and declined to answer reporters' questions as they left.

The documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Richmond and obtained Friday by The Associated Press contain the address of the Vick property that has been at the center of the investigation.

According to the documents, dog fights have been sponsored by "Bad Newz Kennels" at the property since at least 2002. For the events, participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas and other states.

Members of the venture also knowingly transported, delivered and received dogs for animal fighting, the documents state.

Fifty-four pit bulls were recovered from the property during searches in April, along with a "rape stand," used to hold dogs in place for mating; an electric treadmill modified for dogs; and a bloodied piece of carpeting, the documents said.

The documents said the fights usually occurred late at night or in the early morning and would last several hours. The winning dog would win from "100's up to 1,000's of dollars," and participants and spectators also bet on the dogfights.

Before fights, the participating dogs of the same sex would be weighed and bathed, according to the filings. Opposing dogs would be washed to remove any poison or narcotic placed on the dog's coat that could affect the other dog's performance. Sometimes participants would not feed a dog before the fight to "make it more hungry for the other dog," the documents said.

Fights would end when one dog died or with the surrender of the losing dog, which was sometimes put to death by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gun shot, electrocution or some other method, according to the documents. The property has an aboveground swimming pool, and investigators were seen looking into the pool Friday.

During a June search of the property, investigators uncovered the graves of seven pit bulls that were killed by members of "Bad Newz Kennels" following sessions to test whether the dogs would be good fighters, the documents said.

Members of "Bad Newz Kennels" also sponsored and exhibited fights in other parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey and other states, the filings said.

On Vick's Web site, he lists his birthplace as Newport News, Va., "a.k.a. BadNews."

Friday, federal agents used shovels and heavy equipment to search the Vick property, where an informant told authorities as many as 30 dogs could be buried.

A backhoe-front loader was brought in and used to excavate a cleared area on the property. The material found to be of interest was transferred into numerous large, ice-filled coolers and loaded into a rental truck, which left the property.

Some of the investigators wore T-shirts reading: "Federal Agent USDA-OIG."

An Associated Press reporter and photographer viewing the investigation from a helicopter could not clearly identify the evidence being collected.

Investigators were digging in an area about 50 yards behind the large white house on the property. About 15 people could be seen on the property, which includes several kennels surrounded by pens made of metal fencing, other kennels and outbuildings.

Located in southeast Virginia, the expansive property has a metal gate at the entrance and a white plastic fence around the perimeter. The fence and a large two-story building painted black behind the home obscured the work of investigators.

More than 15 vehicles were on the property, including the rental truck and at least one Virginia State Police evidence collection truck.

Corinne Geller, a spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police, said state authorities were working with federal investigators in an "assistance capacity."

Vick has said he rarely visited the property. No charges have been filed.

During an April 25 raid at the property, about half the dogs were tethered to car axles with heavy chains that allowed them to get close to each other, but not to have contact, an arrangement typical for fighting dogs, according to an affidavit.

Later, Surry County officials secured a search warrant based on an informant's information about dogs being buried on the property, but never acted on it because prosecutor Gerald G. Poindexter said he had concerns with the wording of the document.

On June 7, the day that warrant expired, federal officials executed their own with the help of state police investigators.

Poindexter publicly questioned the federal government's interest in a dogfighting case. He suggested Vick's celebrity was the draw and raised race as a possible motivation. Poindexter and Vick are black, as is Sheriff Harold Brown.

Poindexter, on vacation in Louisiana, said by telephone he was unaware of Friday's search and was still pursuing what he called a parallel investigation. He said he assumed Surry County and federal officials eventually will share their evidence.

Vick initially said he had no idea the property might have been used in a criminal enterprise and blamed family members for taking advantage of his generosity. He also put the house up for sale and reportedly sold it quickly, although there is no record that the sale has closed. Vick has since declined to talk about the investigation.

That brings up a great point. I enjoy seeing folks who take millionaire lifestyles and attempt to flush it down the crapper end up with nothing. If they can't appreciate what they have, let 'em go without it. On that mindset, I was really hoping Vick eventually goes down but now you've complicated things. here is a real gem from that same "anonymous source" that said vick was a "heavyweight" in the dog fighting community:

The source said he consented to our interview to change people's perceptions about dogfighting because they have "the wrong idea" about it and should see "just one" match for themselves before judging it. "They'll let this other thing go -- what is it called? UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship]?" he asked. "That is every bit as bad -- you know, that's terrible. But then you have thousands of people that cheer, rah, rah, and they really love that. You see guys get their heads busted, you know, and they get their arms messed up, their legs twisted almost off. But then they fuss over this here, is wrong."

wow. what a complete fvvking moron. a few things here.

1) the UFC doesnt allow one fighter to tear out anothers throat.

2) the UFC fighters CHOOSE to fight, while these poor animals are FORCED to fight. just a LITTLE different dontcha think?

3) and most important: when a UFC fighter loses, they dont attach electrodes to his tongue and testicles and fry him to death. nice huh? apparently the "humane" dogfighters put a bullet in the dogs head or drown him to death. whew!! NOW i feel better.

another quote from this lowlife:

When asked what he thinks people's reactions will be when they learn of his account of Vick's involvement in dogfighting, the source was nonplussed.

"They shouldn't be really upset, OK?" he said. "Because it's only just an animal. It's just a dog that is raised up. He's put out there, you know, and he's chained up, OK. And the time he gets a certain age, this dog is going to want to fight. It is bred in him, OK? He knows what he is and he's going to fight. Just take him off the leash, let him go."

Dear God,

my buddy orange 4 life contacted your offices and asked if it would be possible to make an examples of these low life pieces of sheet that are involved and even just going to these dog fights. I would like to ask that an example IS made of these a$$holes and you refer your case to the depths of hell where satan himself will anal rape each and every one of these idiots for eternity. And please pay special notice to Michael Vick, yes he is the one you gave all that talent that pissed it away cause he is a wretched little bastage, but make sure his stay in hell is quite unpleasent. maybe make him watch film from the 2006 raiders season, over, and over, and over, and over....

Amen,

PS, God Bless John Elway and Protect Jay Cutler, Go Bronocos! Amen again.

I sure hope he doesn't skate but if he does I will take great pleasure watching that POS get boo'd off the field at home and on the road. That mentally weak POS was about to have a break down just getting boo'd for sucking but this will take it to a whole new level.

I know I will not spend a single penny on anything NIKE until they cut ties with this bag of excrement.

I agree Naptown. Can you hear the razzing this guy is going to get at the stadiums. 65,000 chanting PITTT--BULLL. PITTT--BULLL. and I'm sure after a half dozen beers the fans will come up with better. Think he may get pelted with any dog biscuits. Hope he plays in Cleveland this year.
