Raiders RB Rhodes suspended for 4 games
By JOSH DUBOW, AP Sports Writer
July 3, 2007
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- Oakland Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes was suspended Tuesday for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
The league does not disclose reasons for substance abuse suspensions, but Rhodes pleaded guilty in the offseason to reckless driving charges in Indiana after prosecutors agreed to drop drunken driving charges against him.
Rhodes, who spent his six years in Indianapolis, signed a two-year contract in the offseason with the Raiders that could be worth up to $7.5 million. He is expected to split time with last year's starter LaMont Jordan as the Raiders try to improve a running game that averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2006.
Rhodes started all 16 regular-season games last season, rushing for 641 yards and five touchdowns. After backing up Edgerrin James since entering the league, Rhodes shared the job last season with rookie Joseph Addai. He has 2,274 yards rushing in his career.
Rhodes had one of his best performances in the Colts' Super Bowl win over the Chicago Bears, rushing for 113 yards in Indianapolis' 29-17 victory.
Rhodes will be able to participate in training camp and in all preseason games. His suspension will begin Aug. 31, the day after Oakland's final exhibition game, and he will be eligible to return Oct. 1, following the fourth game of the season against Miami. Rhodes will also miss games against Detroit, Denver and Cleveland.
Rhodes was pulled over by an Indiana state trooper in February for driving 81 mph in a 55-mph zone. He was originally charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit.
Rhodes pleaded guilty in March to reckless driving and was sentenced to 180 days in jail. But 178 were suspended and he received credit for two days.
In 2002, Rhodes was charged with domestic battery in connection with a disturbance at his home involving his child's mother, Latrina Moore. He avoided prosecution and was placed in a diversionary program and underwent mental health counseling.

They just went from 4-12 to 3-13. Too bad they could of doubled their win total from last year.

I know since he's a Raider it isn't THAT unexpected, BUT wasn't this expected prior to his signing? I remember hearing about the potential suspension when he was a FA.

Yeah. He's a good back. He's like too good to be a backup but not good enough to really excel as an every-down back. I think if they had a good o-line and their passing tree wasn't from 1962 they'd have had better luck with him.

Yeah, but the last I heard of him, wasn't he kinda tubby and slow? Almost heavy enough to be an OG....

ROFL! Yeah, it's a bit more "adult" than most of my avys... but don't worry; I'll have it changed before most of the Mane goes back to work after the holiday (wouldn't want to get anyone in trouble with the boss).

Mark my words, if Bush has a decent line in front of him, he will be a top 5 back in the league.
Honestly had Shanny used our first round pick on him i would have been happy, and wouldn't have cared who else we drafted the rest of the day.

I love how our schedule works in weeks 1 and 2
i think Jay is going to have an incredible year, but i love the fact that he gets to torch the Bills and Raiders as a warmup and confidence builder that hopefully lasts the whole season.
Just another reason why I think faid and faid fans are dirtbags.

Ya thats true, but Grandma Davis probably assumed the new commish would give him a lenient game or two & a slap on the wrist at that time. Bwahaahaa

Crap...this moves them closer to the #1 pick again. I'd rather they forever finish 5-9, just bad enough to miss any can't miss blue chippers in the draft so they can be stuck on a treadmill of mediocrity. Of course that's likely anyway with Al(zheimers) running the freak show but any little bit helps.

Sure! Jordan looked great as a backup, but full time starter is a whole new animal. LaMont was consistently less effective in the second halves of games and in the second half of the season.
That’s why the Chargers made a big mistake not selling Turner when his stock was on the rise.

The queefs own that treadmill and i don't think they're giving it up any time soon...:stuck: :kcbard:
As 4 the raturds i think they would hire Art Shell as their HC to be mediocre again,oh wait they already tried that,nevermind...

I'm surprised. Rhodes had seemed like a good guy to me.
Just because he drinks and drives doesn't mean he is a bad guy, just means he used poor judgement. Ricky Williams is not a bad guy probably one of the nicest guys to ever play in the NFL. He just uses poor judgement or he didn't care. Doesn't make him a bad person.

Of course its a big deal now because he's playing for the rival. If he were playing for the donkeys he would be just fine. Whatever... Bush says he's almost 100 percent so I'm not worried.
