its like the trifecta.
"Every time an American fills up his gas tank, he is helping to send an eight-year-old boy to an Islamic religious school in the West Bank or Pakistan where he will learn to grow up to be a suicide bomber, said former Central Intelligence Agency director James Woolsey.
Woolsey’s message at a recent fundraiser for the Canadian Institute for Jewish Research, was that reducing dependency on oil imported from Arab dictatorships may, in the long run, be the only effective means of stemming Islamic totalitarianism and radicalism.
Woolsey, who headed the CIA from 1993-95 during the Clinton administration, is co-chair of the Washington-based Committee on the Present Danger, along with George Schultz, former president Ronald Reagan’s secretary of state.
The committee seeks to fight global terrorism and spread democracy.
He warned that the war on Islamic terrorism will be a very long one, probably lasting decades, because it is rooted in a centuries-old religion that is not going to be abandoned like the secular totalitarian movements of the 20th century, fascism and communism."

But the Neocons don't care about this where big oil and gas profits are concerned do they? I mean why would they move to end their gravy train just because their policies create terrorists?

I'm a liberal, and something of an environmentalist ... but I say stick a giant straw 10 miles deep in ANWaR, and suck it dry. The United States simply must become energy independent, because too many children from OPEC nations are turning wacko.
ANWaR is a far cry from being a "nature preserve" anyway.
In fact, my late father was a real world traveler ... 54 countries and all 50 states. He even saw penguins in the wild in Tierra del Fuego, Chile below the Antarctic Circle.
But when it came time to go above the Arctic circle, he had to fly to Anchorage, then Fairbanks, then find and hire a private pilot to fly him the last 200 miles north to get there. After two hours in the air, they landed on ice, and my Dad walked around for a few minutes, and took a few pictures. He said the pilot looked at him funny as they left and said, "In 30 years flying here, I never met a guy who just wanted to look around up here."
ANWaR? It's another THREE HUNDRED MILES north of where they were.

I'm really interested in oil we might get from deep sea drilling. not that I know how oil is distributed in the world, but it seems like the deep sea should have some pretty big deposits, especially where the land underneath is old.

There is a great deal of oil off the coast of Florida. Far more than in ANWR.
Ever wonder why there is the clamor to drill in Alaska and not Florida.
BTW, the Chinese are funding the Cubans to drill for this very same oil
on the Cuban side of the gulf. That alone should tell you how much oil
is off the coast of Florida.

Ethanol is about to be prove that it is not a viable solution. So until an alternative source can be found we need to exploit our own national resources to the max and get off the ME oil tit. Then provide tax breaks/incentives to buy energy efficient cars (and remove the ****ing tax break for idiot city drivers and their huge trucks and hummers) and increase funding to develop alternative fuels. Also think we should mandate vehicles sold in the US have certain MPG requireements. We can fund most of this by removing the tax breaks and eliminating tax holes for the oil companies. Unfortunately with Bush in president I will have to rely on the democratic congress to take the initiative and they are more concerned with
