I like Rod's quote at the end.
"Ima go out on a limb 'cause this is real close between him and another guy, the best football player, period, any position, I've ever played with, and because of John Elway, a legend. Champ is at that status. Honestly. The best football player I've ever played with or against."

It still amazes me just hearing that teams only throw 3-4 passes a game in his direction, and he still leads the league in int's. I mean how good can you be when payton manning dosn't even look to champs side even when he has marvin harrison playing against champ? Payton didn't even look at champs side for most of the game last year. Same goes to Tom Brady last year. He learned his lesson in the playoff game.
Champ is a clutch cb. in 2005, when we needed somthing to be done to turn things around, he made a play. The play against the chargers at the home opener turned that game around, and turned around our play for the rest of the season. The play against the pats in the playoffs is just pure clutch. He just snags the ball out of the endzone and runs it back to the 1 yard line against a dynasty team that has never lost a playoff game, against a hall of fame qb. That play was just amazing. How many of champs int's came in the red zone again? like around 6 or 7 out of 10. How about that play against the saints a few years ago? He was in the end zone and the qb threw to his guy near the side line in the endzone, and you just see this blur go acroos the screen. Im thinking somebody swated it. Next thing I know it was an int by champ. They replayed it on slow mo, champ some how got both feet in the end zone while running to that guy at about 100 mph. His second int against the cards this year was amazing as well. He covers his guy, then goes to another guy and intercepts the ball.
There is no question in my mind that when he retires he will be considered the best cb of all time.

The greateness of Champ Bailey can't just be measured in ints or number of passes thrown his way. It's also how he transcended the restrictions of the game.
I remember a lot of skin's saying that Champ was no big loss because of the enforced league rules of lesser CB contact etc. But in one offseason Champ not only modified his game to accomodate those restrictions but the next season he altered his game again to play off WRs more often.
It's almost unheard of that a CB can do that. Either you're a strong press guy or a cover two, zone coverage CB. Champ has been all pro at both and perennially one of the finest tackling CBs in the game to boot.
That's greateness.
I've said it from day one and I'll say it again, we need to get his guy a ring!

I'll tell you one negative thing that I'll always remember about Champ...maybe the only one
AFC Championship against the Steelers at midfield, the Steelers had their first possession and it was 3rd and like 5 or so....Big Ben threw an out to HInes and Bailey read it perfectly...i put my hands up becasue i thought it was gonna be a quick 6 for us, as it always has been whenever he reads a pass and breaks....it bounced off his hands in the open field, went up in the air and Hines grabbed it for a first down
the rest of what happened you all know

It's not a coincidence that the only Portis highlight videos from the past few years on Youtube right now are of his antics off the field. Nothing he has done on the field for the Skins has merited much attention....

For all of Champs greatness and how weak our defense is, just shows you how much of a revamped D we really need. I can't wait till the season starts. I think anything short of the superbowl is a failure. This team has a chance to be great. Guys like Champ don't come around often just like Elway. You have to take advantage of what they bring and win as much as possible. That is why I like Shanahan so much, he makes this team a contender every year. Everyone here remembers how fustrating it was when Reeves was the coach. If he would just build a team with decent talent, Elway would of won more than 2 superbowls.

Champ is playing in the NFL when it's harder for corners to play and still produces better than anybody...even Deion!

The fault in that logic is glaring. When the league enforces stricter rules on a CB....that makes all the MORE reason to have an elite corner, not less of a reason....you need a guy that can still do it, DESPITE the rule modifications.....

Does anyone have video of his int from the Saints game? That was probably one of the most athletic plays I've seen anyone make in a game. It was easily one of his best ever.
By the way, everyone save this video so when the League goes 1984 on us and takes them all down we'll have hard copies. :)

Champ's hips are what impress me the most about him as an athlete. Watch his hips during games.....it's like he is on a swivel. Focus on his transition out of the back pedal and ability to change directions.........top notch.
When I watch corners play, the first thing I look for is the fluidity of their hip movement.
You don't see any trolls in here do ya. They know better when it comes to Champ. Nuff said!

and scroll down and click where it says " Broncos-Saints Highlights from NFL Films (56K) -- Sunday, November 21, 2004
Reuben Droughns racked up 166 yards as the Broncos rolled over the New Orleans Saints 34-13." and you can watch it there
it also shows it here
"Bailey's INT Nominated for Play of the Week -- Tuesday, November 23, 2004
Champ Bailey's acrobatic fourth-quarter interception of Aaron Brooks earned him a nomination for the Levitra Play of the Week award."
but its from a different angel where you can't really see anything
