Another Bengal arrested
Wilson one of 15 at wedding facing various charges
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Huntington Police have arrested Cincinnati Bengals running back Quincy Wilson and 14 others who were celebrating a wedding.
WSAZ-TV in Huntington was reporting Monday that the former West Virginia University standout was part of a wedding party celebrating at a bar Saturday night.
Lt. Hank Dial with the Huntington Police Department said Wilson and 14 others refused to follow police commands to disperse around 3 a.m. Sunday outside a bar.
Wilson and several others in the crowd are facing disorderly conduct charges, and some were charged with obstructing justice and underage consumption of alcohol, Dial said.
Police were trying to break up the crowd out of safety concerns, he said, after shots were fired about a half hour earlier one block from the bar.
None of those arrested with Wilson were thought to be involved in the shooting, Dial said.
Wilson was booked in the Western Regional Jail and released around 2:30 Sunday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear July 9 in Huntington Municipal Court.
Wilson is the 10th Bengals player arrested in the past 14 months, a streak of misconduct that drew the attention of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, resulted in three suspensions and made Cincinnati a glaring example of players gone bad.
Spokesman Jack Brennan said it was inappropriate for the team to comment on Wilson's arrest because the matter is unresolved.
Wilson is the third former West Virginia player in the NFL to get into trouble in recent years.
Atlanta drafted the running back in the seventh round in 2004. The Bengals signed him off the Falcons' practice squad later that year, and he spent the next year on Cincinnati's practice squad.
Wilson got into three games last season, carrying two times for two yards in an Oct. 1 loss to New England. He was waived on Oct. 19 and signed back onto the practice squad.
Wilson, who lives in Weirton, was one of the Mountaineers' top running backs. He also was a teammate of receiver Chris Henry, a Bengals player who has been arrested four times.
Goodell suspended Henry for two games last season for misconduct, and has suspended him for the first eight games of the 2007 season for his most recent convictions.
Another former WVU player, Titans cornerback Pacman Jones, has been suspended for the entire 2007 season.
Jones, who has been arrested five times since being drafted in 2005, was being sought by police as a witness in a shooting early Monday involving members of his entourage after a fight at an Atlanta strip club.
Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman was suspended for all of last season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He has yet to be reinstated.

In the grand scheme of things, probably not, but the police have just had shots fired a block away and there's a large group loitering after the bars have closed. So drunk people, shots fired a block away and cops not wanting anything to get out of hand and ask the folks outside the bar to beat it. Being drunk, these bright bulbs probably popped off and told the police to stuff it. Then, whammo, arrested.

In some cities shots are fired a block away almost everynight. I know around here if the cops get called for it, they just let us go drink a bit longer.

If anything it just shows that he doesn't care. I know when I was outside the bar at 3 am and the police showed up I left!! If he would have left he wouldn't have gotten arrested.

Is getting suspended for 2-4 games a big deal when you're on the bubble to make a team's roster? This guy's career could be over after this.

I know the guy personally, i live few miles from his house. the guy is great guy, on the quiet side but does like to go out for fun like most do. i havent talk to him yet but im sure theres more to this. You cant judge someone just cuz his teammates are a-holes and cant stay out of trouble, but Quincy IS NOT one of those types or when you dont know the guy. Trust me we wont hear him in the police blotter again. Im sure Goodall will fine him though but no suspension.

Agree. Q-Dubb has been nothing but a qaulity guy in "The Valley".
His football camps have never made national headlines. But getting arrested by Huntington Police for hanging around a bar too long...
The othe WV products Henry and Pac, well they came with warnign labels and the Bengals and Titans ignored them.
Same could be said of Denver's picks this year.

I agree. Sounds more like a victim of circumstance than having actually done anything wrong. I love when the hoggers come and break up a party and tell everyone who's drinking to get in their cars and drive away. That's quality public service isn't it?
OMG - I can't believe somebody hasn't said anything about Hixon on this subject yet. Like Hixon would have kicked the cops ass, or Hixon could have drank 5 kegs by himself and been fine. Where's the stupid, played out, cooked like a burnt peice of meat, over used like Gene Simmon's pecker post about Hixon already. WTF is wrong with you people? Are you starting to relax on the Hixon talk already? You don't think it's played out, tired, boring and over used yet do you? Cmon - lol. Get real.

Many people here had a real problem with Kircus going out drinking at 3AM (ignoring the issue of the altercation, people just fundamentally had a problem with the time he was out at a party); yet now most are saying that it's "not a big deal" that this guy was out drinking at 3AM and ignoring the cops' orders.
Both players are on the bubble with their respective teams, so I don't see any difference there.
Interesting.

Well, let's see.... if my family was dumb enough to be spilling onto a street at 3:am while gunfire was going on down the street, I'd imagine the cops might ask them to disperse. Luckily, they're not.
Furthermore, if the authorities told the members of my family that they should break it up and head somewhere else... my family would oblige them without protest.
You asked.

Doesn't matter....if they were peaceful assembling...then the Police should have carried their ass. But this isn't the first time a Police Officer has extended their authority. But it all depends on the specifics, just because there was gun play down the street, doesn't men the police have the right to shut down the area.

They were at a bar ....it's up to the bar to make sure that people are of the proper age. Since Wilson is of age...this makes little difference unless he was giving alcohol to under age drinkers. But it's absolutely a throw in. They didn't want to leave when the officer wanted them to and that where you get these bogus charges.
I also feel condfident without knowing you that you consumed alcohol under age...report to the police station.

They were outside the bar, hours after the bar's closing time. It's not the bar's responsibility what happens out on the street when they are closed. Now if it can be proven that the underage people drank at that bar and NOT someplace else earlier in the evening, then they will obviously have a problem. But we don't have those details yet.

Throw in or not, it's illegal to drink under age....and in public. By definition, this is the opposite of a bogus charge.

The bottom line to the story is that he was stupid. It doesn't matter if the police were acting appropriately. It doesn't matter if there were 100 people there. As soon as they show up and tell people to leave, he should be the first one out of there; because he's 1) an NFL player, and 2) a Bengal. Whether he's in the right or in the wrong is far less relevant than the repercussions of being stubborn about it.
An analogy. Say I'm walking down the street with my child, when a guy wearing a ski mask and holding a gun approaches us. Pointing the gun at my child, he tells me to give him my watch or he will shoot my child. Now, he has absolutely no right to my watch. And the watch I usually wear was a father's day gift the first father's day after I became a dad. In other words, I really would like to hold onto it. What's more, I have done nothing wrong - I absolutely have no obligation to give him my watch. But the bottom line is that the gun gives him all the leverage in the exchange, and it's a no-brainer to just give it to him. I can be angry afterward.
Quincy Wilson is a high profile citizen under a microscope. As a Bengal, he's undoubtedly heard lecture after lecture about staying out of trouble. He deserves to be punished just for being stupid, if nothing else.
