Syria is making concrete preparations for war with Israel, and is anticipating such a conflict this coming summer.

According to reports carried in the Arab media Friday, the Assad government has already ordered, and carried out, the removal of the Government Archives and State Archives from Damascus to other locations.

Recent assertions by Syrian President Bashar el-Assad that he is “seriously” interested in opening negotiations with Israel were a smoke screen intended to improve Syria’s standing internationally.

Reports have circulated during the past two months that Syria is preparing its SCUD missile arsenal for war, including the VX gas warheads it has been working on producing for several years.

It is widely believed that any attempt by Syria to introduce non-conventional warheads into a conflict with Israel will be met be an Israeli response that will destroy Damascus.

The Jewish state is too small, and its people too vulnerable to absorb weapons of mass destruction.

It would have no choice but to react as ferociously as its weaponry will permit

I'd have to assume if VX rockets rain down on Israel that Damascus would become a parking lot

For Syria to be stupid enough to attack Israel they will need more than SCUD missiles.

A proxy war is already happening in Lebanon and Gaza. The losers are the people of the region, especially the Palestinians.

If Bush is crazy enough to attack Iran, it will quickly escalate if Iran fights back (and they will).

damn I agree with this.

Syria and everybody else in the ME isn't stupid enough to go to war with Israel right now. They know they will use their nukes and they have enough to take out every major muslim city in the entire region.

Israel may be wipped of the face of the map, but the muslim population would suffer huge casualties.

Why would Syria want to attack Israel. I realize they hate the Jewish state and would love if possible to get rid of them with a military strike. But even Assad knows that Syria would not be better off attacking anyone and he would most likely end up having nothing left to rule. Why would he want to do that? Syria attacking Israel just makes no sense. The only thing Syria and Iran will do is give weapons to Hezzbolah, Hamas, Al Quedia in Iraq etc. They love being able to blow up our troops without us being able to do anything about it. The last thing they would want would be to give America a clear cut green light to bomb them into stone age. Make no mistake about it we could no problem.

Iran has some pretty good systems. In reality though they would only last a few weeks before they were all done. Iran could try and take out some ships but after a few tense weeks and maybe some hits their advanced ship weapons systems would be either used up or destroyed. Their air force is still really weak and wouldn't last long at all. Their SAM missile systems are decent and would prob be a thorn but really wouldn't be able to stop our bombing.
