Yeah, Cro was a decent outfielder with the Expos but he wasn't as good as Andre Dawson so, when the Expos turned him loose, he went on to be one of Japan's best players. I did a double-take that he's now 53-years-old but then sometimes I have to remind myself I just turned 50.

You know you're getting old when the actress you thought was the absolute hottest thing on the planet during your college years is now doing ads for menopause medicines.

I liked Cromartie, and he was on that fantastic team with Valentine, Dawkins, Raines and Wallach. The one thing I really recall was that he personally was the reason MLB stopped the stat of game winning hits. Pitchers pitched around the heart of the Mtl order to get to him. He was a decent enough player, though. I thought that the 82 team showed promise, but Valentine didn't pan out, and Oliver just had one special year.

Terry Francona was on that team too, wasn't he?

yep, he came up though Denver to Montreal, though as I recall he was a little later. The Den team had Ellis Valentine (who was later traded to Tex for Mike Reardon), Cromartie and Dawson. Raines was played at second in the minors, but in the majors was a huge defensive liability, so he was moved to the OF, left I think. Dawson played CF. Cromartie RF. Francona was initially the 4th OF to those three. Raines eventually moved back to second, and I really forgot what happened after that. Francona may have played first with Oliver being shipped out.

Gary Carter I think came to the show just the year before Den got the Mon. affiliation. I don't recall seeing him.

I loved those teams as well and became a big Expo fan from it. Randy Bass and Dave Hostetler could kill it too. I think they did pretty well in Japan.

Anybody remember this dude?

He flirted with .400 all year before tailing off the last few weeks. I think tickets were $2.50 if I remember right. This '71 team played in the Minor's world series losing 4-3 to Rochester. Jimmy Mason, Lenny Randle, Tom Ragland, Jeff Buroughs and Tom Grieve, the future Rangers GM were on that team, but Scheinblum was the star.

He never made it big in the majors.

There was a big spread on Joey Meyer a couple of weeks ago in the Post. He hit that HR in Mile High that was supposed to ge one of the longest ever. I saw him line one into the right field score board that might have landed in Littleton.
