I'd like to see:
1) Daniel Graham
2) Tony Scheffler
3) Chad Mustard
4) Mike Leach
Give Teyo Johnson a shot if we keep five, but I'd rather keep four.

1. Graham
2. Scheffler
3. Alexander

I think alexander makes the roster unless someone is desperate for a TE and offers a decent pick (3/4)

That's what I was thinking. You can figure in Graham and Scheff right away and Leach as well since he is the long snapper. That really only leaves the three slot open. Shanahan will take the guy that he can get the most production out of and keep him. Alexander knows the system, has game experience, and can come in two and three TE sets and both block or sneak away from the line for a catch (I have noticed Shanahan has a love for TE's who can do this in the red zone).

I still think Sheffler has a shot to be a receiving star. He's got all the make-up and physical tools. It won't surprise me if he is our leading receiver among TEs next year.

but on the other hand, shanny might think scheffler and graham give us enough pass catching (especially with a fairly physical recieving corp) and decide he wants Mustards size for short-yardage and goalline situations.
I wouldn't mind seeing both kept, but have a feeling we might need some extra roster spots for the dline.

I want mustard over alexander. Alexander is basically a less talented version of daniel graham or tony scheffler. Mustard on the other hand is a great goalline blocker for a TE and can sneak out and be a huge target on the goalline.

3/4ths of a pick? ;)
Seriously, I'd be happy with a 7th. A 6th would be ripping off the trade partner.

Broncos will keep IMO
Graham/Scheffler/Leach/Alexander
They won't keep Mustard he is only a blocker and with Graham coming on board I think he wont be needed. Leach of course because he is our long snapper. Alexander I think because he can block and do a little pass recieving. I think a 2 TE set with Alexender and Graham in the redzone could be a real weapon. Graham as we all know can block like a lineman in the run game, but in this redzone alingment he could also be a weapon to score. Scheffler lack of blocking makes the run game suffer in this area. Stick ALexander on the other side in a 2 TE alignment and that could be great for the run game but also still give Cutler some options in the passing game.

Not counting Leach since he's a TE in name only, I tend to agree with MSG in that the suprise player to make the team will be Johnson.
Alexander is an average blocker and receiver. Money might eventually dictate his fate. Jackson is an above average receiver and liability as a blocker but has ST ability.
Logic says that if Johnson displays the same or better ability receiving as Alexander and Jackson and can also prove himself on ST, he can displace two players while providing cap savings.
Mustard will provide the team with another blocker especially in goal line situations. So in essence the team will keep two receiving types (Sheffler & Johnson) and two blocking types (Graham & Mustard) with Graham being able to excel in both areas.

My thoughts exactly. I've not been overly impressed with Alexander's blocking (see the playoff game vs Pitt).

First thing that crossed my mind was why not make him a OT.

Mustard is as much a lock as Graham, Scheffler and Leach. He absolutely pancaked some linebackers last year and should eventually move to OT. While the team hasn't been able to duplicate the Shannon Sharpe "tweener" tight end, they have been able to duplicate the Lepsis/Carswell TE to OT move. Mustard's next in line.
Alexander makes 5.

Sharpe was always a better receiver than a blocker. Yes, I know, his blocking skills were good, but compared to tight ends that specialized in blocking, he really took a back seat in that regard.
I'd like to see Mustard make the team somehow - whether as a tackle or a tight end. He's a pretty cool dude.

Tony is going to break out this year in a BIG way. Cutler loves him and looks for him alot.

Yep, if you don't count Leach and we keep four other guys at TE, I completely agree with you.

Graham, Scheffler, Alexander, Leach. That's all we need.

With Hixon healthy again, we don't need Leach. Hixon was working on his long-snapping while he was on the DL, and I'm going to post about that subject on my blog next week. Please continue to refresh your browser until you see the Hixon update.
(I hate to give away so much good info here, since I don't get the page views, but there will also be some info on Hixon's contribution to the revamped playbook. But given his peer-reviewed engineering publications, that probably isn't a big surprise.)

I would love to see them do this. At tight end he is one of the top blocking TEs in the league. Last year I saw he was listed as 288, so he's only about 10lbs shy of being at the ideal weight. Plus, he has great footwork. It worked with Lepsis, and with Graham here now, I think it might be the only way Mustard makes it.
