NEW YORK (June 12, 2007) -- Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones withdrew the appeal of his suspension Tuesday and will serve the one-year term imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"I understand my responsibilities to my teammates, the Titans and my fans and I am committed to turning my life around and being a positive member of the NFL," Jones said in a statement issued by his agent.

Jones met with Goodell at NFL headquarters Tuesday and was accompanied to New York by agent Michael Huyghue.

"Last week, I asked for an opportunity to meet privately with commissioner Goodell," Jones said in the statement. "I met with him earlier today to tell him about the steps I have taken to change my life since being suspended by the NFL. I accept the discipline that's been imposed on me and I am withdrawing my appeal."

Goodell suspended Jones on April 10 for a series of off-field episodes. He has been interviewed by police 10 times and been arrested five times since he was drafted in 2005. Jones and his attorneys appealed the suspension May 11. It could be reduced to 10 games if Jones meets all the restrictions set by Goodell.

Huyghue said Jones intended to keep working out and would go back to school, taking courses online from West Virginia University, where he played.

Jones' suspension was the most severe of three handed down this spring by Goodell as part of the commissioner's crackdown on player misbehavior during a year that included the arrest of nine Cincinnati Bengals.

Tank Johnson of Chicago and Chris Henry of Cincinnati each got eight games, Johnson after serving two months in jail for violating probation on a gun charge, and Henry -- Jones' teammate at West Virginia -- for four arrests in 14 months. Henry served a two-game suspension last season.

Neither the NFL nor the Titans had comment.

At the time of the suspension, Titans owner Bud Adams said the team respected Goodell's decision and added: "We are hopeful that it will achieve the goals of disciplining the player and eventually enabling him to return to the field of play."

The Titans took steps last weekend to fill Jones' spot by signing cornerback Kelly Herndon, a former starter for Seattle and Denver.

The length of Jones' suspension could hinge on developments in Las Vegas involving a fight and shooting at a strip club during the NBA All-Star weekend that paralyzed one person. Police there recommended felony and misdemeanor charges against Jones, but the investigation continues.

Jones was the sixth overall pick by the Titans in the 2005 draft. If he misses the entire season, the suspension will cost him his salary of $1,292,500.

The article forgets that Jared Allen was suspended as well under the new policy. Also, this does not have the full details of what happened behind the scenes, just the adjusted history of the outcome of that process. Good Luck Pacman, I hope your half as sincere as your PR persons releases on this one.

What are the odds that he messes up and loses the entire season and not just 10 games?

Am I interpretting this incorrectly?

Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones withdrew the appeal of his suspension

The appeal was his shot at getting the sentence reduced.

and will serve the one-year term imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

The rest of the article is what "could've" happened if Jones won the appeal.

No he can't. He withdrew the appeal. Read the first sentence of the article. Then put the rest of the article in that perspective. As with many journalistic efforts these days this one falls short of being able to put things in the right order so it makes sense.

The good behavior and other stipulations were part of the appeal process. Since it's been withdrawn Pacman gets the year off.

Sorry Tred but the original suspension by Goodell had him suspended for the year and also IF Pac follows through and meets the requirement that Goodell and co. set before him then he could be suspended for just 10 games.

That's not how the article reads Tred. He gets less time for good behaviour. Every article I've seen mentions it. It is a seperate entity than the withdrawn appeal.

The suspension could increase however, depending on how the investigation into the Las Vegas strip club fiasco goes.

Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones withdrew the appeal of his suspension Tuesday and will serve the one-year term imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Please explain. Because that's exactly how the article reads. The appeal was there to reduce the original suspension handed out by Goodell. They weren't appealing the suspension, they were appealing to get it reduced.

The suspension by default is one-year. So, technically, that is what he is serving currenlty. It will be reduced to 10 games if he meets whatever restrictions Goodell has put on him. I've already pointed out that line in the article and it isn't taken out of context.

They were appealing the suspension itself. I don't know if they hoped to get it thrown out or reduced, but regardless, Jones can still play this season if he is a good boy.

Tredici, These guys just can not write good copy anymore. The original suspension was a full year with the ability to have it reduced to 10 games with good behavior and the result of all charges and investigations being dropped. The appeal was to have the original one year suspension reduced and therefore the number of games that he would sit for good behavior would also be reduced in proportion. Therefore, he could have sat 4-6 games with good behavior under that scenario.

However, by dropping the appeal, he consents to the original sanctions of one year or 10 games with good behavior and no further legal troubles stemming from his current cases pending.

I heard that the Las vegas DA has contacted Goodell about Jones and will be releasing a public statement in the next two days about how they will be handling Jones Involvement with their cases. Therefore, it would not surprise me that Jones WILL receive some formal charges with the Las Vegas incident and Goodell told Jones at their meeting on TUES. Those charges would rescind the second part of the agreement and make Jones sit the whole year anyway.
