This guy would have my vote right now over ANYBODY in the current field, even Al Gore.

Jim Webb

- Naval Academy

- Chooses Marine Corps vice Navy after graduation knowing full well he will be infantry officer in Nam as a platoon commander 2nd Lt.

- Goes to Nam, is most decorated officer from his class

- Eventually becomes the Sec of the Navy

- Strong on military, duh

- Honest to fault

- Wants to flip our country so that the middle class come up, and the rich stop profitting off the poor, especially the poor that fill our enlisted ranks

Please read up on this guy, he's a future Presidential Candidate, and someone I think anyone but a uber-rich nazi like Cheney would support.

I am willing to do my due diligence on any potential candidate regardless of party affiliation.

As if party affiliation really means much these days.

I just try to find folks who dont come from a $$$$$$$ background, who might actually relate to the common man, and who has a sane message.

Then I hope they dont turn to the dark side after they get elected lol

I will give him an open mind until I feel otherwise....

A common-sense republican is a much greater oxymoron...

I've admired Webb since I read his Vietnam novel "Fields of Fire" back in the 70s.

No politician can "fix" America as there is no way to legislate a perfect or utopian country. One simply cannot exist. I want the politician who will **** things up the least.

I think thats the mentality that kinda got us in this boat. Voting for the lesser of two evils....accepting a certain amount of BS by default because it 'comes with the territory'

I guess I am foolishly optimistic - but I am hoping America wakes up and gets deeply involved in the whole race - primaries and on - and select the best possible people for the job rather than the 'lesser' evil or the fancy name they hear on TV over and over again.

And my optimism is fueled by November 2004 - record turn out for midterm elections. It really seems the people are less willing to ignore things and more willing to have their voice heard.

Hopefully it carries over and people really take a close look at the candidates - especially the so called '2nd tier' candidates, the ones who dont have special interest lobbyists lining their pockets daily.

You fix the economy, the you will (in large part) fix America.

When our economy is booming, many other problems go away. Once our economy is booming again, the rest of the world will find us quite attractive again, and our old allies will strengthen their bonds again. That is very important. It is very important for America to be well respected throughout the world.

What does Webb mean by "strong on the military?"

Does that mean he supports the current plan to weaponize space? That is a dead end for planet earth. If we follow that path it means nuclear destruction.

I agree with the notion that a politician can fix anything, esp a country, besides getting him/herself a cushy position.

Having said that, I do like Webb. I voted for him here in VA. Seems like a fairly decent fellow. Of course, lets see what the man does - he's a freshman senator. More than a few politicos go to DC with the best of intentions and pure hearts only to be polluted by the beltway.

You do know he used to be a Rep, right?
