The NFL Season has begun to officially kick off for me now that the season review magazines have started to hit the store shelves. I'm sure that many of you are like me and blow 7$ a pop on just about every one.
So far I've gotten the Pro Football Weekly and Lindy's season previews and i thought I'd share some of the individual player rankings with the rest of you.
Lindy's: (Only ranks 1-10)
Jay Cutler is ranked as the 9th best QB in the NFL (#8 being Hasselbeck and #10 being Romo). Leinart and Young do not rate in this books top 10.
Javon Walker is ranked #10 amongst WR's (Steve Smith is #8 and Hines Ward #9)
Brandon Marshall is ranked as the 5th best #3 receiver ( #4 Mark Bradley and Bryant Johnson #6 ).
Dan Graham is ranked as the 4th best TE in the NFL (surprisingly) right after Gates, Gonzales, and Heap (in that order) and ahead of Ben Watson, Kellen Winslow, Witten, and Crumpler.
Kyle Johnson is ranked as the 4th best FB in the NFL (but later its noted that he'll be pushed for a starting job)
Tom Nalen is ranked the 10th best Center in the NFL
On to Defense ...................
No DLmen listed (No surprise there)
DJ Williams is ranked as the 3rd best MLB/Inside LB'er in the NFL (big praise) After Urlacher and Ray Lewis, and ahead of Farrior, K. Morrison, London Fletcher, and B. Scott (in that order).
CB's
There is a misprint here as Champ Bailey is ranked #4 behind Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements, and Ronde Barber. I think Winfield was supposed to be #4 and Bailey #1, but they messed up. In the next paragraph it says "The Broncos signed Dre Bly to go along with Champ Bailey, the best in the NFL" and later it says "Champ Bailey is unquestionably the best CB in the NFL".
Dre Bly is ranked as the 3rd best 2nd CB in the league. The top 5 goes ... C. Woodson, Brian Kelly, Dre Bly, Walt Harris, and Fabian Washington.
John Lynch is ranked the 7th best Free Safety. (#6 Will Demps and #8 Ken Hamlin).
PRO FOOTBALL WEEKLY ( top veteran prospect = honorable mention ).
Cutler is just a "top veteran prospect" and not in this books top 20.
Vince Young is #11
Matt Leinart is # 16
JP Losman is #19
Rex Grossman is #20
Despite the snub, the rest of the magazine has good stuff to say about Cutler.
Travis Henry is #26 (right between Fred Taylor and Lamont Jordan), but later the magazine predicts a 1400 yard season for Henry.
Dan Graham is the #15 TE in this one and Scheffler a "Top Veteran Prospect".
Javon Walker is rated as the 7th best WR in the NFL. Fitzgerald is #6, Reggie Wayne is #8, Lee Evans is # 9, and Anquan Boldin is #10.
Brandon Marshall is a "Top Veteran Prospect".
Tom Nalen is the 4th best Center
Lepsis the 24th best Tackle
On to Defense ......
Dumervil = top vet prospect.
Al Wilson (listed as a FA) is ranked the 2nd Best ILB after Urlacher and ahead of Vilma.
DJ Williams is listed as the 9th best OLB (#8 is T. Suggs. #10 Shaun Phillips, #11 Donnie Edwards, and #12 is Ian Gold.
Champ Bailey is #1 CB by a mile.
about him it says:
Bailey plays the ball like a wide receiver. The comparisons to Deion Sanders come more and more often from evaluators. Bailey is adept at baiting QB's, closing quickly and making the play. In the prime of his career, Bailey towers over his peers at cornerback.
#2 T. Newman
#3 N. Clements
#4 D. Hall
#5 R. Mathis
Dre Bly is #12
John Lynch is #17 Safety ( This magazine calls him pretty overrated ).
Just thought i would share. Its interesting how much the 2 books differ on everything but Bailey.
