Went to see Knocked Up last night, the movie is 132 minutes long I think I laughed for about 120 of them. One of the funniest movies I have seen in years.
Summary-
When a one-night stand that should have ended with the sunrise has unexpectedly permantent consequences, the reluctant odd couple attempts to transform their tentative relationship into a lasting love in a conception comedy from the people who brought viewers The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Twenty-four-year-old entertainment journalist Allison Scott (Katherine Heigl) was on the fast track to the big time when an alcohol-fueled one-night stand with responsibility-shirking slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) found her professional priorities taking a back seat to the prospect of parenthood. Now, as overgrown kid Ben is faced with the choice of maintaining his carefree lifestyle or assuming the responsibilities of fatherhood, his decision to stick around is only the beginning of the unlikely couple's nine-month courtship. In order to make things work between the pair, however, there's going to have to be some compromise, and when Allison and Ben decide to take a shot at love, they quickly find that building a relationship from scratch isn't nearly as easy as making a baby. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

He's got his name attached to like 10 movies, but I remember one he discussed where the whole movie the main characters are trying to score weed or something. Kinda sounds like a harold and kumar thing.

Movies like Liar, Liar are created on the assumption that the star power or 'talent' in them will create a strong box office draw. There is no real point in putting any effort in writing particularly good or funny script because the movie will make money regardless.

I wonder what the original script looked like. I am sure it was better, then re-written for Jim Corney.

Funny stuff. The movie has crude humor all throughout it, so if you have problems with that then you might want to steer clear.
For those worried about it being a chick flick, its not. The main character's friends are absolutely hilarious. There is quite an element of dudeness in there. Personally, I think that its more of a dude flick than a chick flick.
Its the type of movie that both men and women will be pleased with.
You will laugh alot.

I always wait for comedies to go DVD...there's no sense in going to see a comedy or drama on the big screen
My friend made me watch this movie called Grandma's Boy and he said it was produced by Adam Sandler and that it was funny as hell. I watched it and it had some moments but with really no star talent, this type of movie just didn't come off that well. The funniest damn thing about that movie was the idiot who kept acting like he was a robot. Did anybody else see this movie? What did you think of it? Just kinda odd is the only real way I can describe it.
You can check out a clip here. JP was the funniest thing about that movie. What a nerd.

Because its believable.
Attractive men not named Alec or Hixon or Jack Bauer are fags. Hence, you never see an attractive guy with an ugly (because with women they are either hot or ugly, there is no inbetween no matter how much makeup you plaster on their faces) broad. Its pretty simple.
Hot chicks are always with average joe. I see it everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. Why? Because attractive men not named Alec, Hixon or Jack Bauer are fags. So they essentially are there due to lack of choice.

WTH? The whole point of my first post was you never see any movie where the hot guy ends up happy with a below average looking woman. You jumped in and said there were plenty of those - but have yet to name even one.
You don't have to dismiss the premise of Pretty Woman. It was simply a remake of Cinderella. You know, the one where the glass slipper only fits the beautiful woman.
So I have no idea what point you are trying to make except arguing with yourself.

Why didn't they reverse the roles for Knocked Up? Wouldn't it be as believable that a great looking guy carelessly knocks up some ugly chick he has a drunken one night stand with? (I mean that's an implausible plot for sure, right?) And then they learn to live happily ever after?

Hollywood women arent ugly.
You are arguing with me about the premise that women like movies where the average, or less than average (in the case of a hooker) women end up winning over the rich and/or powerful guy. It is a completely subjective observation, and one not worthy of the attention that you are giving it.
It sounds more like a case of defensiveness than anything else. Women are shallow also. That was the point I was intending to make.

I'm telling you point blank, Rags to Riches stories (while also a tiresome Hollywood theme) is not what I'm discussing at all. It's what you decided to turn the conversation into because you had no response for the premise I was talking about. Except a lame observation that Hollywood women aren't ugly. Really? Explain why the opposite is true for Hollywood men.
It might have something to do with the double standard I'm referring to that is constantly reinforced in the movies.

Now dry those widdle eyes and run off and just try to do better next time.

You are an absolute lightweight amateur. Evidenced by the way you cling to a little exchange over whether or not women enjoy movies where the average girl hooks up with the rich guy.
Have you ever heard of "Prince Charming"? As if that theme hasnt been EXTREMELY popular throughout the history of moviemaking. You are dense, and too much so to see beyond your intense disdain for men.
Goodness. You are too easy.
Bother someone with an IQ more in your own range...say...your dog.

You would think this was a basketball conversation the way Llama was getting slammed around while being too dense to realize it.
Saw the movie today. It wasn't as good as I was expecting, but solid. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Seen the previews and it definitely is in my book (or pop or teen comedy). Everyone has a different comedic definition level though.
You're wrong, and seeing as you haven't seen it, your opinion carries absolutely no value.

Everyone has different tastes in comedies which is totally understandable. When I first saw the previews for this I thought it didn't look that great and I just went to see it just to go, but I was totally wrong and was laughing throughout the entire movie and I'm not a fan of the stoner/teen type comedies. This has that type of comedy in it but it also mixes in other styles as well.

Some of Paul Rudd's stuff was definitely touching.
Also, when I go to get a scotch/whiskey, I tell my wife I am getting a Delorean.

I was parodying your post if you didn't get it. Like I said, it's a matter of comedic taste. I've found what my 17 year old daughter and her friends consider funny (like this movie) I have no interest in.

Anyone who's seen it can tell you as much.
The humor is definitely aimed at the 18-30ish year old male.

True. Although, I'm on the latter end of that spectrum, and I laughed my arse off. I do like to laugh though so I may be an unreliable source. I guess if you really tried you could not laugh during this movie.

It was very funny.
The Cirque de Soleil scene was probably my favorite, but any scene involving Ben's bachelor pad was funny as well. The entire theater laughed quite rigorously throughout the whole film.
I forget the character's name, but the guy who played Ben's future brother-in-law was hilarious also.
It's a funny movie all around for both boys and girls, and I would say that its one of the best theater experiences in a while. Good fun.

Grandma's Boy is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. And I'm a huge movie buff, so I love everything. I do have a thing for crude humor though.(Kevin Smith is my favorite film maker.)

She actually doesn't care much about her appearance. But I've never seen her cast in a movie role where they don't Hollywood her up. She doesn't seem to object to being seen either way.
I don't know. I always thought Garofalo was pretty sexy. I thought she was great in Romy & Michelle's HS Reunion, and also in Mystery Men.
Jennifer Aniston is the one I don't get. I just don't see the attraction, but I guess it's all subjective.

If you liked it then that confirms it.I guess the truth is lame then. Unless you're claiming not to be ignorant of the movie in question, and have somehow managed to be the first person in history to be able to speak knowledgeably about something with which he has no experience.
I guess you don't understand the definition of parody. Not surprising given your apparent definition of "chick Flick" to include anything that involves interplay between the sexes.

Garofalo is one of those girls who could actually be pretty hot if she didnt really care about that stuff.
Anniston has a team of stylists and all that other junk Janeane doesnt care for.
One seems quite a bit more down to earth than the other.

So you take pride in judging books by their cover; congrats:thumbs: . And using a secondary definition that lacks the key element of a parody: Humor.
Clearly there are different views, but your classification of Knocked up as a "Chick Flick" would mean that every movie involving both men and women is a chick flick. You seem unable to grasp the point that because you haven't seen the movie, your opinion of it is completely moot. There is nothing you can say that will change that fact.

Like I said, I did see parts of it. It's generally accepted a "chick flick" is any movie that the female lead is struggling with one romantic problem or another. I'll give you this movie is more about a juvenile male and his buddies more than it is about the lead chick so calling it chick flick in that sense may not be accurate.
And just because a word has multiple definitions doesn't mean one is more accurate than the other

What movie has a female character in it who isn't involved in a romantic problem?
And just because a word has multiple definitions doesn't mean one is more accurate than the other :thumbs:That depends entirely on the usage and context. However if we apply the definition you cited to your own usage, what you said is that your post was "so bad as to be equivalent to intentional mockery", meaning that you didn't intend mockery but your effort was so poor that it achieved it anyway. I don't think you meant to call your own post "So bad".
You were, in fact using the primary definition: "a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing", and only changed to the secondary definition when I pointed out that your post was lacking the "humorous" aspect of the primary definition.

It was OK, but it wasn't the laugh machine I expected. I won't be a repeat viewer, but I wasn't in the "give me my money back" mode. There are a few laughs here and there, but nothing special. I guess it would have been funnier if I personally have been in the same situation, but I haven't. 2.5 stars out of 5 for me. I went to see Oceans Thirteen the following day. That was a MUCH better movie...
