It's good for Cutler to see Lienart and Young on lists like this and not himself. It will fire him up. We all get to look foward to Cutler showing them all up.

It's a fantasy football ranking.

BTW, as bad of a QB Eli Manning has shown himself to be, he puts up pretty decent fantasy numbers which is why he's rated 8th. He's nowhere near that in a real QB ranking.

Yes! Cutler will be pissed when he is lower than 15th in fantasy football. When you talk motivation, FF snubbed is it. He will be pointing at the TV camera on every TD pass every time the game is on FOX . He will show him.

Young, Vick, Romo, and Favre dont belong on that list. Favre used to belong he just doesnt have the tools to work with any more. the rest well Romo may be the only one close and mostly because he does have help. Young and Vick still have nothing at wr and will result in constant scrambling.

Given that he's yet to complete a full NFL season as starter (unlike Young and Leinart) I would agree that he is officially an unknown quantity.

Obviously those of us who have watched the games and seen what he can do have reason to be optimistic, but i'm still happy with that from a preseason rankings point of view. You don't get ranked on potential, however exciting that potential may be!

Why would he be???

exactly.

the man has played 5 games, and we lost 3 of 'em, 2 of which wouldve been wins with the much maligned snake we sent packing.

yeah, cutler has a cannon for an arm, and yeah, we're all hoping (expecting...even demanding?) that he starts lighting it up this season (and the weapons we've added in the offseason should certainly help), but the fact remains that he's a young guy with only a year of NFL experience under his belt.

who cares where they rank him?

we know what he's CAPABLE of doing, so now its time to see if he can actually go out and do it.

here's to jay!!

God willing vick wont be on the field. maybe he can supplant paul crew

It's fantasy, but I honestly think Cutler is a good pick this year and should be in the top fifteen. With all the new weapons and another year in the system, he could really surprise some people. He put up more touchdowns than any rookie in NFL history in their first four games. He has shown the ability to score touchdowns and the practice in the system and the weapons will only help that.

Maybe we should sent Stuart Scott over to tell Jay that Charlie Steiner doesn't think he's even in the top 20 qb's....in Colorado.

Steiner! Come on out and get your whoopin'! Steiner!

Anybody who puts Leinart and Young above Cutler is silly. If you are going off what they did last year, Cutler whooped Leinart in a head to head matchup, and outproduced them in half the games.

Actually, Young did a lot of great things last year leading his team to some bigtime victories.

Actually, Young did a lot of great things last year leading his team to some bigtime victories.

I watched the replay of the Titan/Giant game last night and Young stats aren't impressive until clutch time. In the 4th quarter, it was all Young.

And that's the point. When it comes down to it, Young won games. Stats aside, he put the team on his back and won football games when it mattered most.

Cutler has the opportunity to do that this season but last year he didnt get much of a chance and little help from a porous defense towards the end of the year. He made some awful mistakes which young rookie's are prone to make and when your defense sucks as bad as ours sucked at the end of the year last year, you just cant do that.

Young is a very good QB, but more importantly he is a winner and has that fire to not be denied. So him being rated above Cutler at this point is very worthy IMO, ESPECIALLY in fantasy where he will get tons of yards running whereas Cutler wont.

I hope the Madden Curse fails this year.

I like watching Young play, he just brings an excitement to the game. Not like Vick, because he CAN throw the ball (and I was reminded of this last night when I watched that replay game, he zipped some beautiful TD passes in the 4th Quarter) and the way he runs is like a gazelle.

I do think Cutler can do some great things this year, especially with Lepsis back and a much more solidified right side but if the defense folds down teh stretch like it did last year and Cutler cannot inspire his teammates, then he wont be able to overtake Young. I have lots of optimism that he can though ;D

Many people really seem to be missing the point of that link. If you honestly are going to select Cutler in the top 15 of all QBs, then you have probably never won your league before....Sure, he may be a good late round bargain #2 QB, but you'd be insane to take him in the first few rounds expecting top 15 stats.

True, but Leinert at eight? I honestly would have Cutler right there in the mid-teens, though. Some Bronco fan will take him in rounds one or two and be screwed, but mid-late rounds and you need a QB? Cutler is a solid pickup.

True, but Leinert at eight?

You've got to take into account more than just the head to head aspect of the two QBs when you are talking fantasy football. Arizona has very good WRs, a struggling running game and an offense that will almost always be playing from behind and throwing the ball A LOT. 8 is perhaps a tad high, but there is no denying that the potential is there for him to throw the ball almost twice as much as Cutler....

Fitzgerald regressed last year once corners learned he telegraphs his routes. They did bring in some offensive line help, but Ken Whisenhunt is a guy that likes to run the ball a lot. Not to mention that Leinert is in his second year and doesn't have a big arm. If someone takes him even in round four, I'll laugh.

boltaneer
06-04-2007, 01:30 PM
Fitzgerald didn't regress last year but he did struggle stat-wise a bit because of injuries. If he hadn't missed those three games his numbers would have been close to the previous year's numbers. Having a rookie QB didn't help him either.

That being said, I do agree that #8 might be a tad high for Leinart.

And Kiwi not tackling Vince Young when he had him wrapped up. Stats aside, he put the team on his back.

Yeah, stats aside, Vince is better than Jay Cutler because in Jay's final 4 games he was the 4th best QB in the entire league, stats wise that is.

Young being rated above Cutler at this point is very worthy IMO. Especially in fantasy football.

Like you said, Vince just wins games, and since this article is ESPECIALLY about fantasy, who cares about stats, (Vince Young had the worst QB Rating in the NFL among regular starters) , who cares because Vince Young is a winner, and in fantasy you get double points for wins right!

And it's not like football is a team sport. It doesn't matter if the defense can't stop the Chargers, Jay Cutler should have been able to overcome it and get convert those two losses into WINS!

Did you even mention that Vince Young has a much better situation to flourish going into this season. Look at that first round pick, that is gonna make a huge difference! (Tenn passed on a great WR from TENN Robert Meachem and took a S) With Chris Brown and Travis Henry gone, Vince will be able to RELY upon Lendale White to give the team balance, as they cruise through the 07 season.

Meanwhile Jay Cutler got stuck with Vince Young's scraps, that bum Travis Henry.

Good take Alec. I totally agree with you! (Even though you contradict yourself in your own post)

ALL TO EASY!!!

Look at this B.S.

http://football.about.com/cs/cheatsheets/a/bl_cheetQB.htm

Cutler at 20.

There is a reason why I always crush teams on draft day. Because people listen to morons like this.

here is one with him at 12. More realistic.

http://www.fftoolbox.com/football/2007/cheatsheets.cfm

But like I said, anyone with Vince Young over Cutler is fooling themselves. He is not Peyton Manning, and without any real targets at WR, and more than likely a crappy running game, he is gonna be feeling the pressure, making mistakes, forcing balls, and putting up crappy stats. He only completed 51% of his passes this year. He'll improve, but by how much. And if Jay Cutler only played 5 games last year, and improves too, he is gonna outclass many QBs as I and others have stated.....

Jay Cutler the last month of the season, with the playoffs on the line, was the 4th best QB IN THE ENTIRE NFL.....AS A ROOKIE!!!!!!!!!!

Case Closed

Jay Cutler should be a 3rd round fantasy pick at WORST.

Not to mention, in fantasy consistency is key, and Vince is hit or miss week to week, with that crappy team, he'll probably put up some negative games. Some games he only threw for like 80 yards!! lmao

That's how you win in fantasy football. You don't wait for him to be great, you forecast who you think will be great, and then draft them. Stay away from the stock market!

Cutler will be a top 5 QB in the NFL as long as he stays healthy.

That is a "beyond bold" statement. I don't even think Elway was considered a Top 5 QB in fantasy football leagues.

That is a "beyond bold" statement. I don't even think Elway was considered a Top 5 QB in fantasy football leagues..

Look what Joke Blunder did with Shanahan's trust. Cutler has a better arm, better weapons, hopefully a better defense to get him the ball back.

Elway was never a #s guy anyway, his best two seasons statistically had ratings in the 90s.

Cutler will get 27+ touchdowns imo. His QB rating his last 4 games last year put him 4th in the enitre NFL behind only Peyton, Brees, and Brady. Palmer should have another good year next year, but Jay Cutler will be right in the mix.

I think people are underestimating how much he will improve between then and now. Watch the tape from the Charger game, the Cardinal game, and the Bengal game. Even vs the Niners, he throws one terrible pass after getting knocked out, comes back, ties the game late.

Additionally, as I stated, the trust from Shanahan is huge. The playcalling last year was very very very conservative, way to many runs on 3rd and 3-4 etc...

This year, we are opening up the playbook like in 98.

FYI - no one can stop our double tight end stacked formation. Shanahan should use this in big games much more. It destroys defenses and takes a ton of pressure of the QB which I don't feel like getting into the details of yet, because it is a conversation for another day, and I wanna go home, but anyway, it does.
