Being an alumnus of the University of Arizona, I felt the need to post a thread about the Women's Softball College World Series. The Wildcats just beat the U. of Washington twice today (double elimination format) to advance to the championship series vs. Tennessee. Arizona has arguably the best softball program in college history (along with UCLA). They won it all last year, and now have to beat probably the best pitcher in the nation in the finals, Tennessee's Monica Abbott.

I enjoy watching college softball much more than college baseball. Maybe it's because I can see baseball any day of the week with the MLB, and that makes softball a little more "special". But the strategy is different, as are the game mechanics. It's really fun to watch, no matter what the reasons.

And today, I decided to invent a drinking game to go along with it. Here are the rules:

"Drink" = Drink/sip from a beer.

Hits
Single = 1 drink
Double = 3 drinks
Triple = 5 drinks
Home Run = finish beer

Outs
Out = 1 drink
Double Play = 4 drinks
Triple Play = finish beer

Misc.
Walk = 1 drink
Stolen Base = 2 drinks
Hit by Pitch = 2 drinks
Run Scored = 3 drinks

Tomorrow at 8 PM Eastern on ESPN2, watch Arizona vs. Tennessee, Game 1!

It seems the UofA has always had a dominent program year after year. I remember when I lived in Tucson we used to go to all of the games! I played softball tons as a kid and in high school growing up there. It was just as staple! I admit, I haven't follwed it quite as much as I used to, but that's awesome to hear.

Spent several years at the U and never once stumbled into a softball game but I always admired the highlights.:wiggle:

Well if they weren't great year after year, naming a sandwich eatery in the Student Union after the team wouldn't maker much sense. The "On Deck Deli" is delicious!

Just an update...Tennessee won last night, 1st game in a best of 3 series. RIGHT NOW, the second game is in the top of the 10th inning (3rd overtime inning...usually ends after 7). Tune into ESPN2 to check out the end!

GO CATS!!!

My girlfriend in HS was a pretty good softball player, so I kinda got into it because of her. If i'm surfing through the channels and come accross the game I'll watch it. Some of those chicks are pretty cute

Seems like a good game for beer lovers but it is straight whiskey/bourbon for me so your game need abit of refining.

And the game is over! Arizona scored in the top of the 10th with one of the best slides I've ever seen (MLB included). She dove around the back of the plate and tagged the last inch of the bag. It was a bang-bang play as the tag was a half-second too late. Extremely exciting!

Have you ever played a drinking game (especially with a sporting event) with straight liquor? I'm really asking...I don't see how it would be possible. I mean, how do you drink shots for something that lasts 2.5-4 hours? The whole point is to spread out the drinking so you don't "blow your load" after the first 1/4 of the game (whatever game it may be) and pass out. That's why it's so easy to use beer, or at the very minimum, a mixed drink of liquor and non-alcoholic mixer (vodka and cran, or rum and coke). Common plays warrant only a sip or two, while big/important plays can require as much as 1/2 to 1 full beer/drink.

The only problem I see with straight liquor is the serving size. It is really hard (or even impossible) to divide a single shot into 2, 4, 8, or even 12 parts. Well heck...it's your game...if you wanna use straight whiskey, you're just gonna get that much more f'ed up! :P !Booya!

BTW...Tune into ESPN2 TOMORROW NIGHT at 8 PM EST for the third and final championship game between Arizona and Tennessee!
