Not even remotely close....That guy couldn't find the endzone if it had a flashing light directing him to it. He only had one 10 TD season. His last six season he never had more than 6 TD's in a year. In 2001 he had 106 catches and only had 1 TD.

He is HOF in his own mind but that is where it starts and ends.

Be sure to get a big yellow gold chain and some Poncharillo glasses. Do not, I repeat DO NOT tan at all before sporting the look. The thick leg hair has to be the only thing saving observers' collective eyes from damage.

I'm not gay - not that there's anything wrong with that. But I am very fashion-conscious.

And llama, I'm almost offended that you would feel the need to mention the gold chain. Like I didn't already have that. ::)

They make green? I've always used white. All my Speedos are semi-transparent white, so I guess green would go, just as well.

Wonderful. I always go for the blue speedo. Transparent white would bring the product to the consumer in a whole new way. Hmmmm.....

In a way I hope he does...

Rod Smith, who has played the same amount of time(minus 6 catches for about 160 yards in 1995) has more catches, yards, and TD's than Meshawn and has averaged more yards per catch...

Add a couple of Super Bowls and if Johnson gets in then Rod HAS to get in....

epicSocialism4tw
05-24-2007, 03:57 PM
I think that Rod has a good chance because he is a "first", and his "first" represents something very appealing for voters. He's the first guy that got his foot into the NFL door without being drafted and made himself a great wide receiver, all the while contributing to a great NFL team that won back-to-back SB's.

There's just no way he gets in. At least with Irvin, they could throw the Super Bowls into the equation.

I wish Rod could have a couple more 50 catch, 750 yard seasons - just to strengthen his HofF case. I think he should be a no-brainer to get in. But I doubt he will, considering the HofF bias against the Broncos.

I understand the argument about receiving numbers being inflated. But, as I see it, Rod has more than just the numbers going for him. If I were arguing his case, I would focus on three things:

1) His undrafted status. He's the blue-collar guy that only makes it on hard work. He's the kind of guy the NFL should want at the front of anything they do, PR-wise. That should be his calling card on getting in. The success he's had as an undrafted player is something that no one else has done at his position - ever.

2) His two Super Bowls. Some guys get in more on their rings than their stats (Swann). Others get in because their stats cannot be denied (Largent). Rod has the stats (two more years as a productive 3rd receiver and he would be ahead of or comparable to Largent in every major category except TDs, and he wouldn't be far behind there), and he has the rings. And he was instrumental in getting those rings - wasn't just a special teams guy, in other words.

3) He's a good citizen. I'd bet that if you polled the teammates he's had over the years as to who they respected most on the team, Rod's name would come up as often as, or more often than anyone else. He's durable and plays hurt. He works as hard or harder than anyone else (if I'm not mistaken, this year is the first time he has missed a single offseason workout). He hates losing more than anyone. He's always open to pulling aside younger guys (who want his job) and helping them out. There are a lot of good guys that don't get in the HofF, obviously. But when a guy is on the fence, and his fate is decided by a relatively small group of people (in this case, the sportswriters with votes), being so likable and respectable counts. A lot.

All that said, you have a bunch of incompetents like Dr. Z voting. So it's a crapshoot.

There is this thing on the mane called a poll. It will add it up for you. If you do it, I can see you screwing it up. I like Keyshawn but he isnt HOF material. Rod Smith wont get in and Keyshawn wont get in also. If you want HOF material, look no farther than Zona's gay love for Hixon. Now there is a guy that will break Jerry Rice records!

Well Meshawn could've been a slam dunk. If someone would've just thrown him the damn ball.

Simple answer: NO

Keyshawn rode the coattails of a very good defense to get his only ring. And he never took over a game like some of the alltime greats.

I don't know about that (see Art Monk).

Art Monk played in a different era. Obviously I think Monk should be in because when he retired he was #1 in receiving in a number of categories, but as it relates to this conversation Rod and Keyshawn played in the same era, nearly at the same damn time.
