My brother sent this, I dont know which fishwrap published it.

Broncos safety John Lynch said today after a rain-shortened mini-camp practice that the loss of Pro Bowl linebacker Al Wilson is being felt by the team.
"He was such a great teammate, one of the best teammates I've played with," Lynch said of Wilson, who was released by the team last month because of a neck injury and salary cap issues. "He just had a natural knack for leadership and was really a tremendous leader and just a fun guy to be around. He loved the game of football. When you lose a guy like that, there is a little bit of a void.
"But the best teams I've played with have leadership all over the field. Sometimes people try to simplify it and (identify) one leader on the team. One of the strengths of this team is there is multiple leaders throughout the team, throughout the defense.
"That's why these camps are good, because we kind of find ourselves. That's part of the chemistry that everybody always talks about. Finding out how you operate when you lose a guy like that, and we're finding our way out here."
Wilson, who started 120 of 126 games in eight seasons with Denver, was released last month after an aborted trade to the New York Giants. Wilson failed a physical and the trade was voided.
Safety Nick Ferguson said team leadership will come from various players in the wake of Wilson's departure.
"When you lead you don't always have to be vocal. You lead by your actions," Ferguson said. "It's going to take everybody on the defense to step up."

LB is going to be a real question mark this year with losing leadership and talent in Wilson... and with an unproven DJ manning the field general position. We don't even truly know who our other starter will be.

Others will pick up the flag. Cutler has assumed control like Haig after Nixon. You youngsters probably don't remember that fiasco. Haig wasn't trying for a coup or anything, but it was still SNL worthy.

Cutler has allready said he wants to be a leader and role model. That side of the ball. Defense looks more like leadership BC. Lynch, Fox, Champ, and if D.J. likes it or not, him. When a soldier falls, someone has to fill the void. It's how corporals become Majors. At least in the blood soaked WW2.

Anyway, we will be fine. The defense will sort itself out after Wilson.

Actually I don't know what it is we knew was coming either. Is it Al Wilson's vacancy? That Lynch would say something about it? That the team plans to move on? The title of the thread had me a bit confused as well.

Shad-up Lynch.........or you'll be next on the cut list! Just try not to blow your coverage responsibilities and make a few stop and all will be well on defense.

I think that everyone will have to learn Bates more aggresive system sans Champ. He can WTF he wants IMO. LB certainly is a question mark. I wish we would bring in Briggs but oh well.

I gathered that the thread title was hinting that the team will certainly feel the effects of losing such a strong leader. I mean...we all knew Al was released what...months ago?

.

Haig said he was "in control" when he was Secretary of State in the Reagan administration, just after the president was shot by Hinkley.

The bottom line is that Al Wilson has a neck injury that will not allow him to play football this season, if ever again. The risk of paralysis is just too high. As much as I love Al, it's not worth it to see him literally risk his neck playing football again, even if it was in a Bronco uni.
