Tough decision
I would love to see Rod bounce back with a 65/750/5 type season but I think it is highly unlikely
especially since we picked up so many options on offense...plus, I'm thinking (neh, hoping) that Marshall breaks out this year

Rod's nickname needs to be Aquaman from now on. Hoping for a great year from him.

I don't buy it. If Rod Smith truly were Aquaman he wouldn't be announcing it to the public. Any real superhero knows that if his true identity is revealed it gives his arch-enemies great leverage. I think Rod is pulling our chain.
Plus I'm not sure how the league would react to the Broncos having a player with superpowers.

"So, basically, I stayed up the whole year last year and that's not good.

Now that I think about it...I don't think I've ever had a day where I was better than 100% either...this sucks.

I don't think that kind of season is too unlikely myself. Like the article says, Smith played through pain most of the year. He wasn't the fastest guy in '05 when he was still very productive, but in '06 he just wasn't consistent. Having the surgery will let him return to his old reliable self.
I don't think 65/750/5 are out of his reach. 100/1,200/10 probably is, especially playing on a team with Javon and Marshall, but Rod could very easily return as the short yardage guy we need to compliment the running game to keep churning up field. Javon will get his, just like he did last year, primarily through the big play. Marshall is similar in that respect. They're gamebreakers, but we need a couple of reliable guys to compliment them.
I think it'll be hard for anyone other than Javon to break 1K yards receiving next year. Marshall and Scheffler will be gamebreakers in limited action, Rod and Graham will be the constant grinders carrying us down the field. We have too much receiving talent for there to be a second all-pro, it'll get spread around to all the various weapons.

That averages only 40 yds per game..I think its a pretty reachable stat.

From a defensive view point Rod may be the forgotten WR in our offensive sets because of his age. Because of this he may have a very productive year. Jerry Rice could never be totally ignored in his later years other wise the defense would be looking at his heels racing into the end zone.

I think those stats are reachable if he is healthy. Yes we do have more weapons this year with adding Henry, Graham and a full season with Scheffler and Marshall but I think this year the offense is going to be on the field a lot more than they were last year thus giving Rod some nice opportunities.
3rd downs don't look too shabby now with Rod, Walker, Graham, Henry, and Scheffler. A lot better than seeing Tatum run for no gain or negative yards.
