another thing is how can you call a confederate General successful when the south got their ass handed to them on a platter ?

On Monday, Rep. Ted Poe took to the House floor to discuss foreign policy matters. To make a point, the Texas Republican invoked the words of Civil War Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest: “Git thar fustest with the mostest.”

The quotation got some floor watchers’ attention pretty quickly. Forrest is a controversial figure who was one of the Klan’s first grand wizards. Although the Civil War hero (if you were a Confederate, that is) ultimately abandoned the Klan for its violent tactics, he continues to kick up dust.

“Controversial figure” doesn’t quite cut it. Most lists of the worst Americans in U.S. history include Nathan Bedford Forrest near the top. That’s what happens when someone creates the KKK to terrorize freed slaves and their allies, after taking up arms against the United States. What on earth would possess a GOP lawmaker to quote Forrest on the House floor?

Why should they hide their racism? They get a lot of votes from redneck America because they dislike "****ers, spics, wetbacks, nips, homos and lesbos." Hell, that is the base of their party!!!

If they can't even keep their penchant for kiddie diddling on the down low, then I'm not too optimistic...;D

Liberals hate America.

But ofcourse, broad generalization by the right is a perfectly acceptable feature.

it's OK clarkster, for them to practice their own form of racism is acceptable by all. It's obvious to me that being PC only applies to the right, not the left. As much as they accuse the right of lieing to them, they now lie routinely at a national level and no one calls them on it. No one. Amazing, just amazing. The recent KS tornado and political jabs afterwards are perfect examples of the lies stated on a national level, and NO ONE calls them on it. Hypocrisy at it's height, disgraceful and disgusting. And they want to "change" america? Sure, to the detriment of us all....dman

*Check out harry reid's statements with respect to the tornado and KS. Out and out lied. Amazing. and again, no one calls them on it..

Not at all....just stating the facts as they are...either acknowledge them as such, or come up with an excuse or a far reaching justification for said hypocrisy, one way or the other it's of no consequence, it is what it it is...dman

Agreed. The right does it also, and they tend to go overboard just like the left. However, out and out lies have to stop across the board. Sick and tired of it from where ever it starts from, especially if it's a lie based on freaking politics. Bring on the third freaking party ...dman

And yet you explicitly stated "broad generalization another feature of the left."

Instead of saying "broad generalization another feature of the left and the right."

Statements like that would tend to make one think you had more of a bias
against the left.

i do have more of a bias, purely because it seems to me that the mudslinging gets nastier from the left. i dont see alot of RWers calling the left a bunch of drunk, pedophilic racists. thats all. yeah they throw their **** out there too, and its stupid. but it seems like its more on a professional level.
also, i tend to feel that the average LWer has too much time on their hands, or not enough of something else to do other than look for **** that the other sides done wrong.
im likely off the mark, but ignorance is bliss when it comes to these things if you ask me.

you are off the mark ......... just look t the impeachment of Clinton , or Bush's people calling up S.C. voters and stating McCain father an black child .......those are just 2 examples

I don't see a lot of left wingers calling people cowards, ******s, anti-American,
surrender monkies, baby killers, terrorist supporters, communists, or
God hating atheists either.

I'd have to know more about the context in which he was using the words. Forrest's concepts of mobile war were studied, and quoted, at West Pt throughout the cold war. I don't get video at work.

I'm not sure about racism and the gop. I'm sure there is some, but it's not as blatant as the racism of the affirm action congressional black caucus. With bushii it almost seems more benign neglect that outright desire to hurt a certain race.

What there is, though, is an embrace of American protestant views. I in my SUV (getting federal tax credits for it through my small biz, which is founded on the contacts and knowledge I gained from my govt subsidized education) deserve everything I have. Sure, I've had some help from God, but God will help anyone, and sure I've been lucky, but hey, I've had my share of bad luck, too.
