On May, 15th, the Sunni leader will pull the Sunni coalition out of the al Maliki government unless they agree to constitutional changes which they are not likely to agree to. This was the same kind of power grab that Sadr tried to pull, but failed at. Sadr already pulled his ministers out. If this happens, America will no longer have a mission in Iraq. There will be no democratic government to sustain. We will find ourselves in the middle of Deadwood.

I'll say (just like I did after Bush started this clusterf*ck) that we will continue to sacrifice Americans for the institution of a religious dictatorship and not much will change.

It's the one situation I have been unable to understand through this whole thing. You don't discuss religion if you want to avoid conflict and you definitely cannot fight a religious war if you want peace.

It seems to me that in the face of what's going on now, this surge strategy is a pathetic joke. I heard one retired general describe it as stepping on a balloon; Wherever you put your foot down, the air just bulges out somewhere else. I agree with Slug. At some point, we are going to have a new ayatollah, be it Sistani or Sadr. Dubya and the neocons have really put their foot in it. Of course, they'll all walk away from the damage they've caused to lucrative new positions in corporate America or various think tanks, or maybe even the World Bank, like Wolfowitz did. No sweat off their noses.

Once again, simply due to having idiots in leadership positions, we may have the disgusting spectacle of American helicopters fleeing our embattled embassy while those who collaborated with us fight to get on board.

Yep.

It will be "mission accomplished" for the pinhead and his benefactors and, as always, the American people will be left holding the bag.
