i am reading jeremy green's chat on ESPN this morning and came across this:
Mike in Miami: Is Ketshawn a fit for the Packers? Any chand they'll get him? It would seem that would take some of the load off Donald Driver.
SportsNation Jeremy Green: (1:06 PM ET ) He would be a great fit. He is a great fit at this point in any West Coast offense. Key will still go over the middle and catch in a crowd. He is big, physical and he can still break some tackles after the catch. I have a feeling Denver will be his landing spot though.
Tod (Sedona, Az): Jeremy- No matter what the Bronco's seem to do it's almost like they take two steps forward and three back. Will the new DE's provide the pressure they need and will their LB's be as good without Big Al?
SportsNation Jeremy Green: (1:13 PM ET ) I don't know about that. They focused on the D-line which is the biggest weakness. I think Moss is going to get a lot of pressure this season, which will only enhance the amount of big play opportunities Champ and Dre Bly come up with. I think Denver has taken a lot of steps forward to try to challenge the Chargers in the West this season.

Keyshawn? Am I the only one who doesn't see how Denver signing him makes any sense at all?

I don't know what Keyshawn offers us that Rod Smith isn't already giving us. I guess it just depends on Rod's health.

There are so many journos and broadcasters that don't know about Marshall its untrue. I really think that the Broncos believe in him, and if you look at the history fo the Broncos you will see that Shanny isn't afraid to stick with guys he believes in....like Rod for example!

Just say no to Meshawn. Marshal is the future, Meshawn the past.

Only someone by the name "Tod" can be that far off when it comes to football takes.

Not with the TE's we have, especially after getting Graham in the offseason, I think we are going to own the middle, and alot of that will have to do with the pure effectiveness of Travis Henry.

I'm with you chrisp.
Brandon Marshall really stepped up towards the end of the last year. Sure, he's only in his 2nd year and he's "unproven". But how can he ever prove himself if he isn't given the chance? If the Broncos sign Keyshawn, Marshall is instantly demoted to (at least) the #3 WR and then we go into 2008 talking about the "unproven" Brandon Marshall again.
At this point Marshall has a lot more potential than Keyshawn. Just give the kid a chance to see what he can do as the #2. If he doesn't pan out, then you move on and make the appropriate roster adjustments. But you'll never what he's capable of doing if he's wasting on the bench.

Totally agree.
I think Marshall has proven that he can be a really good WR. It seemed like everytime we threw at him he made something happen. (granted, we didn't throw at him that much until the end of the season) He has to keep that up.
He would have another +40 yd TD if Cutler doesn't underthrow the post against Cinci.
Wasn't he injured at the start of the year too? A healthy Marshall will do very good things for us this year. (we're all hoping!)
If the price is right... I wouldn't mind Keyshawn as a 3rd WR (IF Rod isn't healthy), but keep Marshall at number 2 so he can show what he's capable of.

I don't think you even treat Marshall as #2, you treat him as 1b. It needs to be like (Harrison & Wayne, Boldin & Fitzgerald). Throw the ball to Marshall early and often and turn him onto a star (or die tryin'). If Marshall doesn't take advantage, he will have to scoot over and be a #3. But, I think the kid becomes a bona fide star with Cutler dishing it to him.
Javon and Brandon are really the same kind of player. Big, physical, great ball skills, great after the catch. They need to be 1a and 1b. That actually opens both of them up for more big plays. It gonna be a fun year - without Keyshawn!

If Rod is healthy, no point in the move. If the hip is going to plague him all season, Keyshawn would be an excellent option as the #2/#3 WR.

Dude Keyshawn would be our 3rd option and they would only bring him in if rod and stokley are not healthy. Marshal is the No.2 reciever on this team people shouldn't freak out about this if it happens it only makes the team better he is a proven quantity and would be an asset.
If Rod is healthy, no point in the move. If the hip is going to plague him all season, Keyshawn would be an excellent option as the #2/#3 WR.
That's the way I see it too....if Rod's healthy no point, but if Rod's not then Keyshawn fills the wily possession WR role well.

I'm of the opinion that if we have the caproom (which we do) and no other player becomes available at a position of need and they can help us bring Keyshawn in. Far too many questionmarks over Rod and Stokley's health at this point. Worst case scenario if we go into the regular season with Kircus at 3 we'll be hoping for a lot from our TE's and running game.

We don't need Keyshawn and especially not for his salary (repeatedly demanded he won't play for less then 2 mil per season).
We have Rod and Stokley to play #3 WR and either one will do the job very nicely IMO.
The small improvement from bringing Meshawn onboard does not outweigh the negatives from his impact on team chemistry. You honestly think he won't hesitate to throw a young QB under the bus given the chance?

Thats just it I'm not sure its a matter of Keyshawn>Rod because Rod might be done. There is alot going on where we might not even see Rod this year, in which case Keyshawn would be an excellent fit. Only the coaching staff truly knows at this point. If we get keyshawn I'd expect Rod's retirement announcement soon thereafter.

What a joke ... we don't need Marshall looking over his shoulder, and we DO NOT need Keyshawns on this team! In fact, I'm wondering if Rod's career might be comfortably put to rest. It's his first real injury as a pro, and he might not even be ready by training camp.

I'm sure hoping Marshall has a long and productive career here, but he caught 20 balls last year. Mike Williams caught 28 in his rookie year. Marshall has plenty to prove before it can be said that he is better than Rod, Meshaun or any other proven vet.

If Rod is not fully healthy then we only have one proven WR in Walker. If Rod can go then there is no point of bringing in Keyshawn. Eventhough I hate Keyshawn and hope Marshall turns out to be great I would feel much more confident with Walker and Keyshawn being #1 and 2 and Marshall being the 3 WR instead of Walker, Marshall, and take your pick betwen Kircus, Stokely and so on.
We can only hope Rod comes back totally healthy and hasn't completely hit the wall and still produce at a semi high level.

Rod Smith caught 6 balls his rookie year and 16 in his second season.
You'll never know what you have with Marshall until he gets his shot. I saw enough from him last year - especially late in the season when he was healthy and Jay was the starter - to say that he has a legit chance to be a major contributor in 2007 and beyond.

Watts had alot of hype going into year two and that didn't work out very well for us. I love what Marshall COULD do for us in the future but he is far from proven. Hell we don't even know what Rod will do for us this year but if its less then last year then I see no reason why we shouldn't pick up another vet. The best help we can do for the D is keep them fresh and pick up first downs, and KeyShawn can do that.

Íf Rod IS done then bringing Keyshawn in would HELP the team and give
Jay Cutler a big target over the deep middle. ONLY if Rod is done.
Unfortunately we don't know if that is the case. Rod LAST year < Keyshawn.
Rod Healthy => Key.
While KJ has been a distraction on his teams in the past, he more or less settled down and became a solid possession receiver the last few seasons.
Nothing spectacular, but a guy to move the chains. Sign him to a one year deal, if the cap allows, and we don't have some other vet or camp cut on another team in mind {maybe at LB or safety} for that cap room.:wiggle:

If by put to rest you mean releasing him...it would make no sense. In exchange for his agreement to slash his base salary, the team guaranteed a 1.5 million salary for him this year and next year. You keep him around, see what he can do when he heals from his surgery. I still think he can catch 40-50 balls. He's also an asset in the lockerroom, obviously. I just dont see the logic in letting him go, his salaries are guaranteed, there is no savings...there is no upside to letting him go whatsoever.

I love Marshall, but something tells me Sheffler will be the second leading reciever on this team.
