Herc had a small mention on this yesterday buried in another thread. Just wanted to give it a higher profile for all my Buffalo friends..... especially Sarah. :P

CU's Fenton signs with Broncos
By Gary Baines
Thursday, May 3, 2007

Mark Fenton's top priority is making an NFL roster, but whether he sticks with a team this year or not, he realizes learning valuable lessons along the way could pay dividends down the road.

Fenton, the former All-Big 12 center for the University of Colorado, on Wednesday signed a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos. There, he'll get to watch and work with one of the best centers in the NFL, five-time Pro Bowler and 13-year veteran Tom Nalen.

"He's ready to go down there and compete," said Kevin Robinson, Fenton's Boulder-based agent with Ascent Sports Management. "The Broncos have an excellent veteran offensive line and Nalen is one of the best centers around. Mark is looking forward to learning from Tom and trying to make the team."

Fenton, who started only five games as a senior after breaking a leg during a Sept. 23 gameat Georgia, wasn't drafted over the weekend and originally was considering Tampa Bay and Kansas City as teams with which to sign a free-agent deal. But then a team much closer to Fenton's college home expressed interest.

"I think the Broncos got an opportunity to reassess Mark," Robinson said. "They didn't have many second-day picks (one) and they had a chance to consider some of the other offensive linemen that were available. Mark definitely fits their system, with their zone run-blocking scheme. He's very excited about going there. It's a great opportunity."

Robinson said Fenton, a coaches' first-team All-Big 12 center as a junior, is 100 percent healthy roughly seven months after breaking his leg.

Broncos add 5 others

The Broncos announced the signing of five other rookie free agents: former Auburn guard Tim Duckworth, former Florida defensive tackle Steven Harris, former Hampton receiver Marquay McDaniel, former Wisconsin safety Roderick Rogers and former Texas running back Selvin Young.

CU's Sanders on watch list

CU junior center/guard Daniel Sanders is among 46 candidates named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the 2007 season.

The Rimington Trophy is awarded to the top center in college football. This is the third straight year the Buffs have had a player on the Rimington Watch List.

Sanders started 11 games at right guard for the Buffs as a sophomore in 2006. He finished third among CU offensive linemen with 655 plays from scrimmage.

This spring, Sanders switched between center and guard.

</TD><TD vAlign=top>Strengths:
Has a good frame and there is room for him to get bigger...Pretty quick...Has a lot of experience...A solid technician...Uses his hands well...Able to dominate once he locks on...He's equally effective as a run and pass blocker...Still has some upside.

Weaknesses:
Needs to bulk up and add weight...Instincts and awareness are questionable...Is not very tough and lacks a killer instinct...Not a great athlete and he struggles in space...Needs to get stronger...Plays too high...Not much versatility...Work ethic?

Notes:
Was due to report as a defensive lineman in 2001 but he delayed enrollment a year...Missed half of his senior campaign with a broken leg...Has some tools to work with but does he have the intangibles needed to maximize that potential?

That's actually a pretty accurate description of Fenton from what I've heard about him for 4 years.

BTW...he was a "2 Star" player coming out of high school.

If he hadn't broken his leg last year, I think he had the potential to be a 4th round or lower pick. I believe he was 1st team all-Big 12 as a junior so there was a lot of promise for him.

"Was due to report as a defensive lineman in 2001 but he delayed enrollment a year."

Put him on the Practice Squad and see what happens.

Before the season, he was supposed to be the Buffs player with the most pro potential other than Crosby.

I also saw Thadeus Washington signed someplace - maybe Cincinnati???
