Policemen indicted
NEW YORK: A grand jury on Friday indicted at least three of the five New York City police officers whose 50-shot barrage killed an unarmed man on his wedding day, lawyers for the officers said. It was not immediately disclosed if the other officers were also charged. Attorneys for officers Marc Cooper, Gerscard Isnora and Michael Oliver said their clients had been indicted, but they did not know what offences the officers had been charged with. The three officers fired the most shots in the confrontation that killed 23-year-old Sean Bell and wounded two of his friends. Isnora (28), was ``very upset,'' attorney Philip Karasyk said. — AP

Cops plead guilty in shooting death of 92-year-old
By HARRY R. WEBER
ATLANTA (AP) - Two police officers pleaded guilty to manslaughter Thursday in the shooting death of a 92-year-old woman during a botched drug raid. A third officer was also indicted in the woman's death.
Gregg Junnier, 40, who retired from the Atlanta police force in January, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, violation of oath, criminal solicitation and making false statements.
Officer J.R. Smith, 35, pleaded guilty to the same four charges and to perjury, which was based on making untrue claims in a warrant.
In court, Smith said he regretted what happened.
"I'm sorry," he said, his voice barely audible.
The state charges followed a Nov. 21 drug raid on the apartment of Kathryn Johnston, 92. An informant had described buying drugs from a dealer there, police said. When the officers burst in without warning, Johnston fired at them, and they fired back, killing her.
