Okay, I need your creative power.
My 15th anniversary is coming up. It's also the first Mother's Day since our daughter has been born. I want to put together something kind of cool as an anniversary gift, and maybe even combine it with a Mother's Day gift (my wife would like that, if the gift was a keepsake).
Budget is $1,000, give or take a little.
I'm thinking about a watch. She doesn't really have a casual watch, so I was thinking about something like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E48PI6/ref=wl_itt_dp/002-0960177-4176017?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2PSJ886ZPVOAP&colid=33531T9ZJOUC8).
Jewelry is another option, but everything I've seen in the range of what I want to spend is either 1) very limited as to when she could wear it, or 2) cheesy. There's LOTS of stuff if I want to spend more.
So, any other thoughts? Any guys get anniversary gifts that went over really well? Any women care to throw out stuff that you'd really like? I've spent the last hour or two putzing around online, and I feel less certain than when I started.

My wife's 1st mother's day: I got her a gift certificate for a full day's worth of treatments at a Spa. Massage, facial, nails, body wrap - the works.
I am sure your wife would appreciate a nice keepsake as well, but the spa package was VERY well received. As you know 1st hand, moms work hard and the whole household gets caught up in the new baby. She really liked getting a full day away from all that and getting pampered with foo foo girly stuff.

Diamond earings (or whatever stone she likes) is a great idea for the anniversary gift. Those are something she could always wear and will keep forever! A spa treatment is always nice. Another thing that might be nice if she likes jewelry is a charm type bracelet. They have some very classy types that she can add charms to each year that would represent your daughter (or children you have in the future). Something like this (http://www.cherishedtimedesigns.com/). Not sure what type of jewelry that she likes but these are options.

Dude, I made major points yesterday (my wifes birthday). Sounds silly, but I baked a brithday cake, for her and she thought that was the best gift ever!! Heck the $300.00 watch got less play than the stupid but tasty raspberry creme cake....Mmmmm.

I've had a caterer come to our home and do a mothers day meal. It was awesome, the food was great and much nicer and more intimate than the typical...

Hire a babysitter...take her out for a night on the town...if "Grandma" is available for an overnight...take her to a nice hotel suite. Hmmm...maybe after the spa day! ;D

Does your wife like expensive purses IE prada, luios vuitton? Those run anywhere from 1000 to 3000.
The thing about 1000 dollar watch is it is nice but not really top of the like nice. Not saying you have to be pretentious but if you are shooting for something really special I would say pick something that is top of the line. For instance a really nice pair of 1000 dollar diamond earings my be better then 1000 dollar watch. I say that just because watches are a more expensive item if you go to the high end models. While with diamonds you can vary by the size, but still get nice quality for 1000 bucks.
But the traditonal 15th anniversary is crystal, but in modern times it has been the watch. So you probably could give that Tag and it would be a classy gift. Take a look at this one though Dom its a little more but i think it's worth it.http://www.worldofwatches.com/detail.asp?bo_products_variance_id=61367

Does she have an opportunity to wear an expensive watch?
Just curious...if it were me, that wouldn't be something I would want. I work with kids and very rarely would have anywhere to wear anything that expensive. Same goes for the purse.

I would agree with Sassy. Except if she's made mention of wanting a watch such as that. Otherwise, you can almost never go wrong with diamond stud earrings (or another stone she likes). What has she made mention of that she likes in the past. You would know best which she would like.

Of the Tag watches, I have never liked that design. It's not what you'd expect in regards to a Tag watch. Someone recommended a spa. I'd also agree with this. Massage, facial, pedicure/manicure for the day. Take here out to a nice restaurant(leave the kid with someone else). Check out bluenile.com Great website & prices and you can find beautiful items in your price range.

Get her a bowling ball that says DomCasual ala Homer. Make sure it's 16 pounds and make sure it's properly fitted so you can borrow it.
Pearls with matching earrings is cool. Watches are nice but with women, you never know if they freak out about their age.
Rest assured, whatever you get, it will be wrong! I guess for 1K a Lexus with a bow is out of the question. Maybe a Yugo.

I had a friends wife that loved to go to the Marriot to well, get pampered. High end hotels will have room service, champaign, a spa, will have a florist. Have dinner brought in on silver.
Bring plenty of quarters for the vibrating bed and porno movies.

I don't think an anniversary gift should be practical but thats just me. You want it to be something that 15-20 yrs down the road may be a keepsake. Something she gives to a daughter etc etc. Spa treatments are nice but I get those for my girlfriend when she seems frazzled just because deserves it and I love her.
Nice jewelery like watches and earings etc are special because you don't wear them all the time. You break them out for special occaisons or when you want to dress up. The other cool thing is after 5 yrs I have only worn my Omega watch like 20-30 times so it still is like new. Everytime I wear it I feel like James Bond, well not really but you know what I mean it's fun to have nice stuff.
I say go for it Dom buy her something she will say you shouldn't have gotten her. Something she would never buy herself. Then while your at it get her the spa treatment also.

Okay, thanks for all the ideas. I went away for a few hours to watch the Nuggets game. Now I'm thinking maybe I'll just get her some therapy for Mothers Day - for me alone, if she doesn't want to go.
I'm going to keep looking around for a bit. I'm thinking a watch and a bracelet. I like the charm bracelet idea that STG threw out, and the watch cutthemdown suggested is pretty sweet. I need to ask a few of her friends what they think. I bought her an Omega for Christmas a few years ago, and it's a little dressier. I kind of like clunkier watches on women - at least when they are going casual. I bought the spa thing for her a few Mothers Days ago, and it ended up expiring after a year without being used. I have no idea why. It was a place called Me-Love-You-Long-Time Massage Parlor - a real high-end place. I felt pretty freakin' unappreciated.
I love the vacuum idea. I just bought her one of those Dysons for her birthday - the thing could suck the chrome off a bumper. And I bought an iron for Christmas, so that's out. It's a little more than I want to spend, but I have a feeling she might like an authentic Riddell helmet, signed by the '98 Broncos.
(I'm kidding about everything in that last paragraph - sort of. The helmet would be cool.)
So, maybe a bracelet with the two kids' names for Mothers Day, and a watch for the anniversary (the 16th). Heck, I hate this stuff. I wish they made romantic gift cards.
If anyone gets any other ideas, I am really, really open for suggestions. Again, thanks!

Nothing like a vacume to light up her eyes. RED Ha!
If your looking for a vacume, this Hoover Savvy was 160 on sale. This thing wants to run away from you! Sucks harder than Pamela Anderson. It can go bagless or bagged, HEPA, has a kitty cat rotating brush, the hoses are slinkies and nice cyclops healight. The cat hair brush runs on a wind turbine! It's a real nice vacume. I was going to get a Dyson but 500 is a bit steep.
I have two Oreck air purifiers. They can have their filters just put in soapy water then rinsed. No filter crap. The second was half price but it was 5 bills for both total.
Anyway, this Hoover SaVVy is a beast, has very acsessible tools right in the front and the hoses are slinkies. I have never ran a stand up that wanted to run away from me. Also, you can click a swith with your thumb and swith to hardwood in a second.
Mock gives it a thumbs up. Nice auxillary gift. Or the Yugo.

Most importantly, it's the though that went into it. Yeah, everyone says it, but I guarantee you that she'll know you really tried! Mostly a woman wants to know you value her and appreciate her! She wants to know that you really tried to do something special. Heck, most women (those that don't place importance on all the materialistic things) would be thrilled if you spent time at the store picking out the goofiest card you could find! The reason being, that is something that you share only with her and it made her laugh! You took the time out of your day to create that moment.

It depends on the wife. Nice jewelry is something that she can show her friends, and that she can wear proudly when you guys do formal things.
I like Sassy's line of thinking better. Jewelry is the easy way out and men are fortunate that they dont have to think about that one too much. However, I would have prior knowledge of things that she likes or has always wanted to do. You could take her out of town to catch a performance, etc.
Bed and Breakfasts are always great.
A cottage on a lake with spa-type ammenities for the both of you.
I have won infinite points with some subtle things that you would never have been able to guess if you did not know alot about her. She will always remember the gift if it is something that is well thought out and planned just so that she can experience something that she always had wanted to do , but never thought that she could.
Make it special! :)

Okay, I think I had a bit of an epiphany on this. My wife loves scrapbooking. She started doing it before it was really popular, and has taught scrapbooking classes all over the place. We have about 60 rolls of film from when we first got married that she's all but forgotten about (we were too broke to get it developed as we were taking it). As a scrapbooking buff, she takes a ridiculous amount of pictures. (People laugh when she asks our son to stop for a picture. He automatically snaps into his sincerely-happy-but-not-so-happy-that-you-look-like-your-constipated pose. It's a talent he's developed from thousands and thousands of pictures.) Then, on top of that, we have all the pictures from digital cameras we've owned - only a small fraction of which we've ever had printed. So, I'm thinking as part of her present (maybe the Mother's Day part), I'll surprise her by getting all of that developed.
Then, I don't know. I sort of nonchalantly asked her about it today, and the watch thing is out. She basically said what Sassy said. She has a watch that she loves, and she wears it when she does something somewhat social. Otherwise, she doesn't like to wear any watch, because it will just get trashed.
Here's another question. Does anyone know of a good, mid-level printer for photos? I'm talking about something that doesn't cost $3,000, but also doesn't smear and make people's skin look like they've ingested poison. I thought that would go nicely with the gobs of photos theme. We have a bunch of color printers we've bought over the years, but they print really crappy pictures. I would think I'd have about $500 left in my budget to spend.
So, do those things sound okay? Or am I just a step above the blender/vacuum cleaner concept?

Have a spa basket made up (complete with your jewelry surprise), run water in the tub, put the champagne on ice, fill the bathroom with candles and flowers, drop the kids off with the babysitter...and "indulge" ;D
Oh yeah...clean the house first ;D
Ok...I'm the scrapbooking guru ;D
I have a HP photosmart printer that I think is awesome. (And it was around $150)
You could also get a gift certificate to a scrapbook supply store so she can pick
out decorating stuff...that stuff really adds up and there are all kinds of embellishments/decorative paper for photo albums! I would also pickup some 4X6 HEAVY
weight photo paper (about $20 for 100 sheets) If that's what kind of printer you get. That way she can put the digital pics in her computer and print them out whatever size she wants.
Plus, with the digital you don't have all the waste that film has...
There you go! Very personalized and something she enjoys!

BTW...60 rolls of film. YIKES!
I would check the dates on those...hopefully, they are still ok to develop!
As for the digital...put them all online (with a program like Kodak Easyshare)...and just get her a bunch of heavy photo paper ( I recommend HP Premium Plus High Gloss 75 lb. ) and let her print what she wants and what size she wants. I crop a lot of photos and if you print them smaller sometimes, you don't waste as much ink or paper. You can also print several pics if you get 8 1/2 X 11 paper. Hey, the pics I had of the OMane tailgate last year and the game turned into an awesome BRONCO album...just ask Hogan!

How about SF/VEGAS/SD/MEXICO/HAWAII. Something romantic the two of you can enjoy. Forget the jewelry, scrapbooking, spa, etc. If it was me, there is nothing that can compete with two airplane tickets to: The trip would be unforgettable.

Give her a dildo with her gift, that way if she don't like it she can go *** herself.

This is going to sound cheesy but I found a plant that is a potted palm with two main stalks growing they some how tied in a not. My wife loved it and to this day is her favorite Anniversery gift!!!

The simplest gifts are the best. The ones that are personalized and took some time and effort. A cup filed with flowers you've hand selected might be more value than a $300.00 bouquet. I like the scrapbook idea. Sometimes multiple gifts spread out over the same occasion suggest more of the intent that you had. Example: Get her the gift, add flowers and present it to her over a meal that you prepared yourself with wine selected specifically for that meal.
A $10,000 ring is just a rock if the context is not right.

It always confuses me couples that don't dance, laugh, massage each other, share books, take time or do the things that create a commonality.
I give really gooood massages.

I have way too much testosterone to dance. :strong:
Plus, I've never been able to get past that whole "guy-with-no-rhythm-looking-like-a-complete-dumbass" thing.

Dancing rules in America:
1. Most women don't know how to dance either but like it.
2. Most men don't dance and with very good reason.
3. Most women know rule #1 and rule #2 and don't care. They love it if you try but not too often and please do not step on the toes.
Dancing Schools food for thought:
If you are single ANY college will take males dancers for free because there is always a shortage of partners. If you are going there to pickup women you are wasting your time but if you get picked up in the process of not picking them up um....just be careful is all I ask.
If you get into dancing with your wife by sharing a dancing class you will have more fun than sitting in one room emailing her kind thoughts from another.
If you are fat. Dancing will help you lose weight.
If you are skinny. Dancing will help you look marvelous.
Learning how to dance is better for you than starting a fight club for example. Dancing is more practical than fighting and ultimately more fun too.
Nobody ever died from a tragic dancing accident...well....almost nobody.
Don't tell any of your buddies because you are only going to make them out to be punks in the end.

What about 2 airplane tickets from SLC. I don't know about you, but I'm all into travel. Leave the kids at home, and the two of you take a quick trip together. You're based out of SLC. How about SF/VEGAS/SD/MEXICO/HAWAII. Something romantic the two of you can enjoy. Forget the jewelry, scrapbooking, spa, etc. If it was me, there is nothing that can compete with two airplane tickets to: The trip would be unforgettable.
Now you're talking! One of the gifts I gave my wife last week for her birthday was a new set of luggage. She does quite a bit of business related travel, so it was a good "cover". She had a strange look on her face until I told her to look in the front pocket of the carry-on which contained a photo of a beach scene, with a note stating "Pick a Beach".
Getting away from the daily grind is always a welcome "gift"!
